I don't really hate them but I do dislike them except for Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin and Bilbo. I like to think that hate and dislike are two different feelings.

I believe they are: here's my computer's definitions of those two words.
Hate: feel intense or passionate dislike for (someone), have a strong aversion to (something)
Dislike: feel distaste for or hostility toward
(sorry, I like the dictionary )

I can understand this...when I first read The Hobbit, I was also a bit annoyed at how timid Bilbo was about going on the adventure with the dwarves. However, you do need to consider the fact that they're born and raised in their own little communities, and most likely do not know much of the outside world...and are therefore a little wary of things they are not familiar with.

I love hobbits. I love Frodo. I love Merry. I love their eating habits. I love their mannerisms. I love their peculiar shyness from adventure.
I love the fact that JRR Tolkien considered himself just like a hobbit.
I could never imagine hating them.

Haha...no need to ask me that question, you all know the answer!
Seriously, I don't know why so many people can't stand hobbits. I have a feeling, though, that it has something to do with the certain innocence that hobbits have about them - and people don't have...

I still have that same opinion. Do you understand why I don't like hobbits now (at least partially), ForeverFrodo?

Hmmm. I tried to understand. I tried hard.
Well, I can imagine that the can be annoying at times, though I personally don't share that view.
Buuut - they are such a merry people and yet they can be brave when it comes to it.
I respect your opinion, but I will never share it.
Sorry.

I used to hate hobbits because they had hairy feet. But they're funny.
I love Merry and Pippin. Especially the scene at Bilbo's birthday with the firework.

Aye, I'd have to agree. Hobbits are simple and naive. In todays world, those two traits are often looked down upon. =[

I have never met anyone who didn't like Hobbits. I don't really swoon over them, I think they're OK.

I'm not mad about them, they're a bit too 'no adventure but six meals a day' for me. Like someone said ealier, I dislike them but only a bit. And they always drink too much, which I find disgusting

They drink too much as in, too much alcohol, or they just have too many beverages per day?
