Mark finally mustered the resolve to get up and go over to the dragon. He sauntered over rather lazily, fixing his somehwhat of order clothes. His steps stopped just beyond the others, at the perfect spot to look at the beautiful creature.

Arielle watched the other kids run their hands over the dragon. She stood by it, looking but not touching. She would have felt somehow wrong touching the noble creature, though it was a tempting thought.

Emma smiled broadly as she ran her fingers along the scaley surface. "What a beautiful thing you are." she said quietly.

Lily walked cautiously up to the dragon and ran her hand over his scaly body.
"Wow," she murmered, "You sure are magnificant, aren't you?"
Lily looked at the other students and their reactions to the dragon. Most of them were exactly like hers.

Mark was a bit bored with admiring the thing. He walked slowly back to his desk and plopped back in his chair. Well, my chances with Nick were destroyed. he thought as he leaned his head on his arm.

(Precisely what I was thinking )

Isabelle gave one last smile to the dragon then said, "Well, I'm sure you'll want to be off to wherever you were going." She waved goodbye, still grinning from ear to ear, and walked back to her seat. She saw that the boy who had been staring at Nick earlier, Mark, looked rather downcast. She wondered why, but she didn't want to pry so she refrained from asking him.

Nick sat down in his seat, repressing a grin caused by Isabelle's whale sized smile.

"I take it you didn't grow up around dragons?" He asked, still trying to keep the corners of his mouth from rising.

Lily sighed kind of bored staring at the dragon. She found a nice spot on the grass and sat down, taking it all in.

The curiosity left her face as she turned away from Mark towards Nick. Her wide grin returned. "No, I didn't," she told him, "I never saw one up close until I arrived here at this school." She cocked her head to one side, studying him, and continued, "But you seem to be quite familiar with them. I take it you grew up around them?"

Louy seemed to be the last to leave the dragon. With one last stroke of the smooth scales, she returned to her desk. She pulled out a notebook covered with stickers of swords, dragons, horses, faries, one or two elves, and bow and arrows. She also took out a pencil with a horse-shaped earaser on the end and small black horses running around on a red field on the actual pencil. Louy started scribling in the notebook, smiling...
