i know you didnt, I was just saying its much better to interpret all the good things from his films, rather than any underlying racist views he MAY have had.

Well, I am not going tos tart a debate on this but I'll just say this.
Scripture tells you to diciplin those who need it. And That's what I believe in. There is anextreme to every angle and I believe that such actions should be only done when absalutely necisary but... *shrugs* I respect your opinion and realize there are many who believe as you do.

With all due respect to your scripture, but it was written some 2,000 years ago in very barbaric times where public executions were the daily entertainment and women were treated like caged animals.
Sorry, just had to say that. Let's move on to the next subject

Yes, the documentary was indeed about religious families. I didn't point that out in my first posts as I didn't want it to turn into a religious debate.
First of all I wanted to hear your opinions on spanking and bringing up children by diciplining them, because that was my first puzzlement. And secondly, of course the religious aspect matters in this case, but I'm sure the topic can be handled maturely since we - after all - are in the 18+ club.
I think we might have hit the dead-end now, since it has turned into a matter of faith and beliefs, and humankind will never be able to agree on that.

i think it's only fair that i get to defend my faith before we move on. your comment seems to imply that scripture was part of that barbaric society, but the scripture that was being written 2000 years ago was the teaching of jesus, and while you're right that the society of the time saw execution as entertainment and oppressed women, jesus' teachings completely bucked that trend - he taught peace, love and liberation (a quick glance at the bible will show that he was a pacifist who treated women as equals). please don't confuse scripture and society - society was barbaric, christian teaching is not. as far as i am concerned, old testament scripture may suggest that corporal punishment is okay, but jesus' teachings completely rule it out.
at any rate, smacking is totally illogical - parents should lead by example, so if a parent smacks a child to get it to do what they want, the child will only learn that they can get their own way by smacking others. i speak from experience - my parents smacked me occasionally when i was a child (never hard, please understand) and i think that's the reason i used to hit my sister.

Erm...do you think anyone who wishes to add to this discusion..could PM each other rather than post here? Thank you.
You make a good point about be smacked and then smacking others to get what you want etc. I never really thought about that before, but it does make sense.

Yeah, I was going to say...it's nice that you all want to talk about this...but as clearly stated in the rules religion should not be discussed.
Mmm...I sound like a wanna-be-mod. XD
But seriously, this club is for us elders where I think we should be mature enough to respect one another's opinions and beliefs...but let's move religious-ness to PMing...as dear JF mentioned.
The discussion of spanking and all that jazz...that's cool. But let's try and be nice. XD
Oooh...I feel old when I say that sort of stuff. XD
I think, since I haven't posted in a while here, I should...but maybe later.

W00t! I have a week's vacation from work. It's so great. Yesterday I spent in a city about 1 1/2 hrs. from here shopping. Got some great stuff. I'm really pleased. Today I did a little bit more shopping in town, then had company. Tomorrow I plan a tiny bit more shopping, and then I'm off for a picnic lunch with a couple friends who are also off work tomorrow. The rest of the week has yet to be planned. But I'm enjoying this time off so much I hope I won't have trouble getting back to work Monday morning--'cause my next break (well, besides weekends) is a couple months from now. I think I'll get some reading in.

@Ivreniel: Nice to see you again! I hope you'll have a few wondeful days!
@MontanaBohemian: Welcome back!
@Slickman_G: Wow, the drunk-story sounds good. Lucky you!
Well, my favourite Disney films are: The Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. It's really sad that I don't have a video player anymore to watch all those good old videos. Buying all of them on DVD again is a bit too expensive...

I find Its even harder to work when you actually have copious amounts of time, I just end up fluttering the day away going out and stuff, and even when Im in the house, I tend to prefer sit on msn than do work! Whereas when I'm in college I can get home, and do a few hours of work much easier

lol I'll move on, but actually only half of it was writen then and if you read it you would know that it instructs others to respect eachother to love and care for one another. It condemns rascism brutality, opressiona dn all these things. I believe that for you to speak of it's content you should read it a bit first.
But like I said I do respect your views and opinions and I do agree it would probably be better to let this subject lie.

*puts official badge on forehead* Jax, Eru, let's drop this subject on the boards. Thanks. *puts off badge*
Now we talk normally.
lol, eowyn, isn't that how it goes? Procrastination, do things slowly, procrastination, workin' against us. Procrastination, it's life's motto, procrastination, but should be workin'.
