*dances the British Waltz with the Brits*
I haven't gotten any eggs either, but I was about to buy some today...
My problem is the same as with Christmas; I am not overly fond of marzipan or nougat... and I can't cope with nuts or raisins at all...
When are you funny islanders going to put together the list for strictly British-words-not-known-outside-the-strict-tightly-knitted-British-society?

Are you in anything really physical JF? It helps to be in something like martial arts, where you're just focusing on getting through your motion, instead of OCD.
*hugs*

That's an interesting technique I haven't actually heard about. But... if you think about it, it just might work. I've found that when I'm really concentrating on something physical I tend to forget about other things that I'm usually worrying about. Maybe you should try it out JF. What are some things you like to do? [Besides drooling over Michael?]
@ Eä: Ooh we really must! *contemplates* I'll start putting my list together and post it here.

See, you've got a system in place all ready. As long as you've got something to keep your mind off of it you'll do fine. As for being in the garden... well, we'll take this one step at a time.
Hey! What don't you PM me your list and I'll add what I've got to it?

My goodness darlin'! You most certianly need more exercise! Take a break from the compy for a bit and walk around the house or something! Just walking to the kitchen would be a start... *pokes* Go on...
I'd love to see a list of completly Brit sayings...we really need them...

Oh dear.. how can you not go into the kitchen.. it's gotta be the most important room of the house... it's where the food is!
A friends of mine just went to London and one of my bestest friends is going to London sometime in spring.. *sigh* Yeasshh.. I'm slightly jealous... London is such a great place.. I can't put a finger on what excactly makes it great.. but it is...!
I need to go...!
Good thing with the list. Looking forward to seeing it (unless of course it will remain a guarded secret between Larael and Gimli...?) I always learned British English, but associating so much with Americans sort of ruined it... *coughcough* I have a habit of using American spelling, like z instead of s here because of the American dominion on the forum...
Do you Brits keep strictly to the British spelling?

^ i keep very strictly to british spelling, yes. i also have a uncontrollable habit of correcting american spelings whenever i see them. it really bugs me that the editors of the broadview anthology of british literature (one of the set texts on my course) use american spellings. i mean, i know the editors are american, but they still should have respected the fact that it's BRITISH literature and used our spellings.

Thats a coincidence, as there is a club on here called th emartial arts fellowship, so if u wanted JF, then u cud have a look n see if any of them appealed ot u lol
and there are words that we Brits have, but we dont tell them to strangers lol
( Just kidding btw, no one take it serious lol )

one of my flatmates is german, and he seems to think we brits really do have words we don't tell anyone. he used to whinge like mad about our "secret language". i think that was mainy cuz he couldn't understand our yorkshire flatmate's accent though.
i could probably contribute some local dialect words to that list if you like.

I always stick to my British English when typing. It's the only way I know really. As eowyn said, 'tis extremely hard to not to correct ever American spelling I see!
A quick update on my list-- I'm almost done! But I've a question... are we doing original British words, phrases, and slang or what? Some of them wouldn't exactly be forum appropriate.
