Edward showed the slightest smile before he cautiously got out of the car, walked up the familiar sidewalk to the door and then finally, inside the beloved house.
As the boy took a 'new' step into the home, memories flooded his mind. He could see Peg again. Faded purple suit like cotton candy and smelling of nail polish and cosmetic make-up. He could hear her voice. This is my daughter Kim...all dressed up for her senior prom. She's a senior now can you believe it?.
Edward's eyes brightened and blinked softly, he could see Kim's picture-perfect face play in his mind and he now immediately looked over to the shelves.
But he couldn't find it. There was no picture of Kim. Where had it gone? What did they do with it? "Where's the picture?" said Edward, silently.

Lucy looked to Edward with a confused face, "What picture?" Her eyes looked around the room for any sign of a picture, but none were there. All that was on the walls now, were decorations that matched the television room and one large mirror....where the shelf of pictures used to be.
Lucy brushed back a loose strand of her brown hair behind her ear and searched Edward's face, "We've never had pictures in this room before, Edward."

Edward's warm breath quickened. Where had it gone? Why had it gone?
"The picture of K-Kim..." answered the soft voice when two brown eyes looked over to Lucy.

Lucy raised an eyebrow, "A picture of grandma Kim? In this room?" Her eyes looked around with a flicker of her eyelashes and then returned their gaze upon Edward's scarred face.
"The only picture of grandma Kim...that I know of...is in my room somewhere special with all of my other collectibles. Do you want to see it?" she asked with a still somewhat puzzled expression.

Katherine slowly pulled herself out of the car and looked around the neighborhood. No one was outside and it was deathly quiet. She bit her lower lip softly and then closed the car door behind her. She sighed deeply and walked toward the house, taking her time.

A flushed faced woman across the street saw Katherine. "Hey! You! Katherine!" A short stocky hand waved in the air followed by a flapping pea green sleeve of the blouse she wore. "Who you got in there?" Her fake shiney looking lips pushed forward out of eagerness to hear the answer.

Edward nodded his head up and down slightly. His body twitched before it followed the young girl to wherever it was she was taking him.

Lucy walked to down the small hallway and into her bedroom. Looking back for a slight second, she waited to see if Edward was following...and he was.
She smiled with only her lips and then knelt down onto the fuzzy white carpet. Sticking half of her upper body under her bed, she fumbled around for the small box of collectibles.
"I got it," she said in a muffled voice as she came out from under the bed with her hair slightly frizzy from the static.
Sitting on her bed, she motioned for Edward to sit as well and then slowly began to take off the lid.

Katherine looked over her shoulder to the lady that had come over and then bit her lip, when she asked the question. "It's... my... cousin!" She said and then nodded, when she finally agreed with herself. "My cousin from Arkansas. Yes, he's visiting for a while." She folded her arms and smiled a little to the woman.

"A cousin?" started the woman across the seat blinking her clumpy eyelashes, "What's his name?! Is he even healthy?"

Edward tottered his feet close to the bed before his long, lanky figure towered over Lucy's little body. "Got it?" he repeated with hopeful blinks.

"Yeah...it's here somewhere..." she muttered as she began searching under old pictures she had drawn while in kindergarden, small tiny toys, a few marbles, a china doll, and then....... "Oh, here it is," she said with satisfaction.
Lifting the picture up to her eyes, she smiled and then flipped it to Edward, "Is this the one?" It was an 8x10 picture of a young girl, around seventeen or eighteen, wearing a turquoise blouse, with big brown eyes...almost like Lucy's, blondish orange hair, and a gentle smile.

Katherine sighed deeply and folded her arms, while watching her neighbor closely. "His name is Edward." She told her softly and then looked toward the house. "And yes... he is very healthy." She said and then looked back to the woman standing before her.

The lady shifted in her high heels and lifted a hand up to her brow to keep out the sun, "Healthy?! Could've fooled me!"

Edward's eyes looked over to the picture. The sparkle in his eyes that he used to have seemed to return for a moments time.
She was so beautiful. Innocent. Sweet. He remembered her like one remembers a perfect dream that you wish you could dream again every time you closed your eyes to sleep.
A small, soft smile spread over his scarred face and a joy seemed to seep from his tender soul.

Seeing the tiny smile from Edward's purple lips told Lucy that is was the right picture. Smiling back, she handed the picture to him and said, "You can have it. Just don't tell mom, ok? Go ahead, take it."
She stood up and handed the yellowish tinted picture to him with a gentle gaze.

Katherine sighed and shoved her hands in her pockets, while still watching her neighbor, seeming almost bored. "That's just how he looks. He's a very strong, young man. His parents make him work around the house a lot. So, that's why he's so pale. He doesn't get much sun." She nodded and nibbled on her lower lip, hoping that she was sounding somewhat convincing.

The lady stared with a mean look. No, the excuse didn't sound convincing, but it convinced her enough to shoo herself back into the driveway towards the door to her house. "Okay, yeah, whatever Katherine..." She laughed to herself before she disappeared.
