I went for Gandalf the Grey. I think they're both perfect personas for the situations that Gandalf finds himself in, but I thought Gandalf the White was a bit bossy!

Actually, having said that, I liked the bit where Gandalf beats Denethor up, so maybe I should have gone for White after all!

i too cannot decide whether i like gandalf the gray more than wjite. they are the same person as someone already sad, just that the white gandalf is a lot stronger. but gandalf stays gandalf whether he is white or grey.

That is a tough one....i like them both. But i think i would have to go with Gandalf the Grey.

Grey, he was more of the true Wizard type as Gandalf the Grey. Look at the Karate Kid, Mr Myagi. Sw, Yoda and Obi. LotR, Gandalf. All grey, pretty crazy dudes.

Gandalf the White... Special effects, abraka dabra Harry Potter sort of Wizard.

Gandalf the Grey... More of a silent watcher, your typical Merlin. More of an all knowing, someone-whos-always-there-to-save-the-day kinda dude.

Thats why I'm looking forward to The Hobbit so much!

They both have good points and bad, but the Greyness is so much more grungy. It's more of a surprise, think about on the first page of the Hobbit, Bilbo="YOU! The old man with the grey beard and throny staff who won't leave me alone to my second breakfast?!!! YOU'RE THE GANDALF!!!!"

After that, "Old guy in cool white clothes, definately a Wizard."

I voted for Grey too. Gandalf the White looks too much like a pimp, haha. Gandalf the Grey is so iconic for me. Whenever I hear or read Gandalf anywhere, the image that pops into my head is that famous John Howe artwork of Gandalf the Grey.

Gandalf the Grey!
He is more like the granddaddy type of guy. Someone who would tell stories from the beginning of time seated next to the fire place with his pipe, or you could take him out for a pint at the pub. Gandalf the Grey seems to be more relaxed, human, amiable, nice, someone you could chat up on the street and talk about weather or pipeweed.

Gandalf the White seems more aloof and distant, he would intimidate people with his whiteness.. seriously how likely is it to be that sparkly white when spending so much time outside... what kind of secret detergent recipe does he use? And would he even bother about the trifles of human or Hobbit life at all? If he wandered in I'd feel like I needed to get out the nice China and put on my best clothes..
