Well...I might have possibly heard something about the Barnes & Noble near my house getting in their shipment of novelizations...and then I might have coincidentally found myself in the store that afternoon...and then while there I could have accidentally wandered over to the help desk and possibly convinced the lady working it to get me a copy out of the back...

Hypothetically speaking, of course. :P

Indeed. I just realized I have a sudden urge to go to the nearest Barnes and Noble, just to see...

Hmmm. I wonder if I (hypothetically) went to Barnes and Noble tonight, and (hypothetically) did the same.

OOH an excerpt! Thank you so much, potr!!! Cause I was soooo close to a B&N yesterday, but I couldn't go in it... :annoyed: And the stupid book wasn't in either of the stores I did go in.

Okay, well, here's the trick: there is a very, very good chance that you will not find it on any shelves anywhere. See, Amazon had them listed as being available on the 10th (which is when I bought mine) and started shipping them out on the 10th, but all of the bookstores have been receiving the boxes marked "May 1st." So until May 1st, they will not put it on the shelves, and depending on the person you speak to, they might not even sell it to you. Here's how my conversation with the lady at the help desk went:

Lady: Can I help you?
PotR: Hi...yeah. I was just wondering of y'all had gotten in your shipment of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 novelizations yet.
Lady: Hold on, I'll check...*types into computer*...No, sorry. It doesn't come out until the first.
PotR: *nods understandingly and smiles nicely* Oh, okay. That's fine. I'd just heard that Borders had gotten their shipment in today, so I didn't know if y'all had as well.
Lady:....You know what? I can go check in the back for you. It's possible that they've already come in.
PotR: *brightly* Okay!
Lady: *comes back 5 minutes later with book in hand* Yep, apparently they came in without my knowledge. Here you go.
PotR: Thanks very much! *barely refrains from skipping joyfully to the checkout counter*

So...aye. I got lucky (plus I have mad persuasion skillz :teehee:).

~PotR's Tips for Effective Persuasion/Manipulation~

- Be nice. The more friendly and likeable you are, the more likely they are to want to help you.

- Don't play dumb, but don't let them know how much you know, either. I knew very well that B&N did have their shipment in (yay for inside sources), but if I'd gone in and immediately asked that they get me a book from the back room, I probably would have been turned away.

- Be able to read your salesperson. If it's obvious that you're going to get nowhere with them, give up and thank them for their help. Then go find someone nicer a safe distance away. :teehee:

- If all else fails, casually mention Borders (or another rival bookstore in your area). Don't use it as a threat (i.e.- "Fine! I'll just go to Borders, then"), but an offhanded mention like mine that merely suggests that you will take your business elsewhere can be very persuasive. It's amazing how much easier things are to find when you find out that another store has the same thing.

- Say "thank you" and smile real nicely at them. That way they feel better about themselves.

Ah I see. ;) lol Well, thank you for sharing that bit of information with us. Oh, and also thank you for the tips. Well it really does sound like it will be good. I know that I am looking forward to it.

ps only 41 more days to go :bounce:

Oh really? Dang! Oh well. Thanks for the tips though, I'm going out later today and I might try that. :)

lol! :D I've noticed that the 'casually mention their competitor' trick works quite well. I'm always amused by [s]manipulating[/s] persuasion tricks. ;) Whee!

What clip??? Of what??? My computer's retarded and it's blocking the site... :explode:
(Oh, and my curiosity has been satiated. Target was kind enough to have one or two copies of the novel lying around in the kid's books section, and I managed to read it while waiting for my mom to finish shopping. I'm kind of glad I didn't spend money on it, but I am glad to know some things.)
