Yeah we celebrate Christmas on the 24 of December in Sweden as well. We also celebrate Easter Saturday (which we call 'Easter Eve') rather than Easter Sunday. LoL I guess we just can't wait, haha

And no my parents never treated me like a little kid (except for when I was a kid that is)

LoL you don't have a bad memory, I do have a birthday coming up! I'll be 23 on April 24th (in a week) :)

I actually don't mind becoming a year older. I enjoy growing up. I'll probably start panicking when I'm about to turn 25 though, haha!

I like birthdays but I don't really like huge celebrations or parties (where I have to be the center of attention). I'd rather just have a quiet relaxed birthday at home and then just maybe hit a pub with some friends or something. I don't care for a lot of presents either (I'd rather get one thing that I really want than ten things I'll never use). A cake is never wrong though ;)

When I was a kid I LOVED having a birthday party. In Sweden your family always wake you up with presents in the morning (usually wake you up by singing "Happy Birthday") so you get to open them in bed and so when I was a kid I could never sleep on the morning of my birthday. I'd always listen at the door to hear them coming and then quickly jump into bed and pretend to be asleep, haha.

Ha ha ha! The day I turn 25 is the day everything is going to go downhill. XD :P Ha ha ha. I had a friend who turned 25, and when I called to wish her a Happy Birthday she was like, "*many swear words* I'm a freakin' quarter of a century old! What's up with that?!" :P Yeah, not looking forward to being a quarter of a century old. But that's in a little over 5 years. I just have to get over turning 20. NOT looking forward to that for some reason. :P I think part of it has to do with not technically being a "teen" any more. You're like considered more of an adult. You know what I mean? "No more acting like a child! You're 20 years old!" XD Ha ha ha...*sigh*

But, as for that birthday tradition, that just made me giggle, Eru! Sounds so fun!!! :)
Sadly, no one ever woke me up with presents. :P
Since my birthday is in the summer, we'd usually have a get together or something at our cabin at the lake north of where I live. So, it's always nice to have a birthday in the summer, at a lake...because there's lots of swimming and stuff. :P Not much different than a normal day up there. Ha ha ha.
But, my mom's parents would always come down, and my grandma makes THE best lemon meringue pie, and knows it's my favourite. So, we don't usually have cake, but lemon meringue pie. Although, a lot of people in my family don't like that kind of pie, so I'm usually the only one who eats it. (And rightly so...;) ) Ha ha ha!
If we did just have a little party at our cabin, some family was usually there and sometimes I brought a friend or too. Or sometimes we'd stay at home, and it'd just be like a dinner with my mom and dad. And some presents. No birthday song or anything. :P The way I like it.
One year, though, my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary was 2 days AFTER my birthday, so, we were all up at my grandparents' getting everything ready, and I remember, on the morning of my birthday, one of my cousin's ran into the room I was sleeping in to wake me up and wish me happy birthday. :P Which, I had no idea what she was talking about, because I'd COMPLETELY forgotten! Ha ha ha!
This past year, I didn't do anything special, except, my big present was a trip to Spokane to see Michael Buble in concert. Best ever. :P
So, sometimes my birthdays are actually little parties, or just a favourite dinner of mine with family. :P

As for Christmas, we usually go down to my aunt and uncle's guest ranch, which is in some valley far away. :P It's really nice up there. Very quiet. Usually lots of snow. And just family hangin' out together.
I DO like getting up early on Christmas. I mean, just the atmosphere of being up, one, before the parents, but just...gah, I don't really know how to explain it. :P Like when it's still dark out...hard to explain. :P Although, lately, I like sleeping in a bit...because my evil demon child cousin runs around at 5 am...trying to wake everyone up. She's a bit...crazy. And evil. She's always trying to make us open our presents in turns so she can see what we all got...and then flaunt what she got. :P But, we just ignore her, gather up our presents, try and find a spot in the tiny living room and open presents. :P After that, we go on a snowmobile "picnic"...:P Crazyness...but it's fun. :P And then, that night, we have a dinner. Can't remember the name of it...has a certain name. :P Then we snowmobile, to my uncle's mom's place...for dessert and his side of the family. :P But Christmas Eve has always been my favourite. Don't know why.

I don't celebrate Christmas for...the religious holiday. I never have. Although most of my family hates me for it, I just don't. But, I like it because it's just time for family. It's really nice. :P You know what I mean? Just kind of hanging out. Which is why Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. DEFINATLELY not religious (*extra points for that...;)*):P But also because we have this huge gathering of family at our cabin, with lots of food. :P Food and family. That's about as religious as I get. XD

Well actually the traditions in christmas don't even have anythign to do with christianity... infact many stem from sun god worship back when constentien (sp?) was emporer of rome and tried to mix all the religeons in an attempt to creat a single world religeon that woudl satisfy everyone.

Yeah that's correct. Most Christian traditions and holidays are originally Pagan ones. But yeah, we should probably drop this subject before the Mod Squad comes chasing us with sticks :teehee:

Fweeee only 3 more days until my birthday now :bounce:

LoL yeah I know what you mean. I tend to venture to the forbidden topics as well. I just can't help it sometimes, they're such a large part of who I am and I have a great passion discussing them and debating them. But yeah, let's try to stay out of them, at least for this page :teehee:

I know I keep saying this but ONLY ONE DAY UNTIL MY BIRTHDAY!! :trampoline:

You sound a bit like a Hobbit there! :D

Hmm... people claim I do live in a hobbit country so... *chuckles*

Wauw Eru, again I thought your birthday had already been... if the times goes so slow for me, it must literally feel like an eternity to you!
But happy happy day.... tommorow! Will the kids sing for you in the morning? :-)

And to all you beautiful people who shared your Christmas traditions. Thank you, it was so interesting to read.

Hey, you're supposed to be an adult here! :P Aren't we not supposed to worry that much about the seconds passing? ;) :P

Speaking of which.

Time.

How does everyone here tend to manage their time?

Thank you Jax :)

I've never really had a schedule. Except for when I was still in school but you'd get them from there. Things always work out, one way or another and I just go with the flow, take things day by day as they come.

I'm probably the worst procrastinator in the world and always have been.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERU!!!

hope you're having a great day.

and speaking of time management, i am currently proving how appalling mine is - despite having been given my essay titles six weeks ago, i now have only 22 hours to finish my poetry essay, in which time i must also go to a seminar, eat, and possibly sleep. and after i've handed that one in, i'll have 48 hours to write another one. aaarrrggghhh!!!
