Does anyone in the UK watch this show? I really love it, as I was a huge fan of last years How Do Solve A problem Like Maria? It's far better Saturday night TV, as I think it appeals to people who don't like programmes like the X-factor, as it's more...sedate and cultured.
I ADORE Rob, I think he has such talent for someone who has never had training in his life. I also think he would make a fantastic Phantom, as he reminds me of Gerard Butler, in voice and looks....although I think he's better in both.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgydVjKbleA" target="_blank">Rob performing</a>.
For those of you who don't know what Any Dream Will Do is about, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is looking for an unknown to take the lead as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The final twelve had been whittled down, so now on live shows, each man has to perform songs and the viewers choose which Joseph they liked best. In the end, the last man standing will be the viewers choice of who plays Jospeh in the West End. And unlike X-Factor and American Idol, they judges don't insult or humiliate the contesants, they just try and give advice and encourage. Last year, Lloyd Webber was looking for a Maria to star in the Sound of Music, and the show, the stage show and the Maria were all massive hits, hence the reason he's using the same format to find another star.

i was thinking about starting a thread on this. four weeks in and i'm already borderline obsessed. i love all the bbc shows like this - i watched both series of fame acadamy, all four series of strictly come dancing, both series of strictly dance fever, and how do you solve a problem like maria. my whole family loves them and we all get really into them.
rob better than gerard butler? i'm afraid i'll have to majorly disagree with you there.
i've been supporting lee since the first audition show - he has a beautiful voice, fantastic stage presence, and hes the only one of them that can act. he makes my spine tingle and i think i may be in love with him. lol.
here is on last week's show:

Well the only reason I started watching How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? is because it was about a musical I love and it was from an idea by Andrew, who has masterminded some of my favourite musicals. I was very impressed by the quality of the show, and the genuine help the judges wanted to give people rather than give them a hard time.
Well...I loved the song he sang last week, and I do think he has a good voice, and with a little more work he could be very, very good. But as it is, he really does have a good "belter" voice, and I can easily imagine him singing "Down Once More" but at the same time tackle the softer songs. And I'm not the only one on the net, who thinks he looks like Gerry Butler. As the Phantom he is hot....as himself...not quite so. And he always looks like he really enjoys, and I think the audience enjoy it because it's plain that he does. I also think his acting is quite good.
I also like Keith. As he's another one who I think is good and like Rob, as two unprofessionals, they seem to enjoy themselves more than anyone.
Yes, Lee is Ok. I think he will eventually win as he has had more experience and traning than anyone else.

just thought i'd post this, seeing as i finally found it - lee singing mack the knife on show one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OZBMtoC23I
i thought bad day was a better performance in the acting sense, but mack was better vocally. i love love love love love this guy.
JF - i agree that rob has a gerard butler quality, i just don't think he's better than him. keith's got a nice enough voice, but he's not leading man material.

^ i totally agree. anthony was painful last night; and much as i dislike seamus, he's better than ben.
lee was wonderful as ever. i keep obsessively checking youtube to see if anyone's put his performance up yet because i really want to see it again. he's just breathtaking - he really knows how to shade a performance and he makes me believe every word he sings.
other than lee, daniel's the only one that i think could really hold a west end stage, but he only appears to have one facial expression and his voice isn't expressive enough.
i thought lewis and chris were both meant to be fantastic dancers, but they moved really awkwardly last night - denise was spot on about lewis and the knee-bending thing, and chris's arms were wild. kind of embarassing to watch.
keith has a nice enough voice, but he doesn't command the stage; craig's pure boy band cheese; and rob still looks every inch the builder - he could at least improve his posture.
i think that's everyone.

He was really painful. I thought it was a bad move giving him a song to sing that is the flavour of the month, so even if he sang it well, some would still compare it to the Take That version, but even so it was bad. It started off OK, but when he hit the note with the inflectin (sp?) it went downhill all the way.
Hah, well I keep doing that with Rob so.
Keith and Rob are really the only two I like. Craig is OK, he hasn't got a bad voice, and after slogging it for years in dingy clubs I hope he does well, because I think he is improving. Neither Rob or Keith are going to be Jospeh, I can't see them winning at all - but that doesn't mean I don't like them, nor do I think they don't have a good voice. Last year out of the 12 Maria's 6 of them went to star in West End productions. For Keith and Rob, two ordinary everyday people with no training, I hope they get spotted and do really well. As they seem like nice ordinary blokes, and as Bill Kenright said they're what they show is all about - the everyday man getting a chance.
Lee will win as he had the experince. I know he has been controversial because he was the understudy for Raoul in the West End, so that may go against him. We'll have to wait and see.
