I actually watched this yesterday..
I would have to say that "Yes, it was a lot like LotR".
However, when thinking about LotR, and its place in fiction. Tolkien pretty much created much of what we know as fiction today. Many of the fiction books later were based off of the same concepts and ideas as LotR. Chrnoicles of Narnia is another main example.
I don't feel all... AHHH! over the fact that it is a fair amount like LotR. I don't really like it though either.
I would have to say:
I think one main reason could be because Lord of the Rings just came out, in a practical sense, and they were probably hoping to make more money off of a movie that was a lot like LotR.

True you have a good point. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not mad at the book and movie Eragon itself, the fans are what upset me.
Some fans of Eragon do not know their history and think LOTR copied Eragon, which makes me sooo frusterated since LOTR came out about 35 years before Eragon was made. I just wish people researched more about when books came out and stuff. But anyways....

This isn't the topic to discuss that in. However, you can go to the clubs section and go to the "Lord of the Pans" club. That will fill you in on all you need to know.

Yup. Even some direct quotes.
At least in the book... hae'n't seen the movie. Too New-Age.
It's also like StarWars in a lot of ways.
I'll stop before I explode about Eragon, though.

Yes, and talking about both movies.....
Remember in TTT when they show that camera shot of Saruman's head looking out over all of the Uru-kiah in Isengard? Well, they do that exact shot with Durza looking out over the bad guys in Eragon! And when Saruman says, "To War!!!!" Durza says, "Anialhatte! (sp?)" And then Saruman says, "There will be no dawn for men." And Durza says, "But the boy is mine." Soooooo totally annoying!!!!!!!! Ok, I'll stop too because I've just about lost it.

Oh yes! And you know...everyone has their interpretation of what elves look like. For example, Santa's elves are small cute little elves, and LotR's elves are majestic, tall skinny elves. Why did Paolini's have to be exactly the same as Tolkien's?

Yeah! I thought that too because I read the book after I watched the movie and I was like "Ooh! Cool girl!" My sister's like, "That's an elf." I was confused.
But all in all I definately, most positively LOVE LotR sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than Eragon. Eragon was like this:
