azcentral.com reports:
"Johnny Depp wants to make 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films for the rest of his career."
Sounds awesome! Click here for the source

But.. when there is a trilogy.. it always appears to do really well. Would he really be able to keep the storyline going?

I'm sure they can think of more stories concerning Jack Sparrow.

I can agree with you slightly...
Jack's a really cool character, but I am just afraid Pirates may die out...

Yeah, I know. There are talks about a 4th one already, and up to 6 has also been discussed. As long as the films will keep makng money, they will keep making them. I don't think quality of story or production will matter.....unless of course one of the films does badly...which means something is wrong.
Hopefully though JD would refuse to make a Pirates movie if the quality was not up to the usual standard.

Yeah, but trilogies seem to work, for some reason.

Yes, indeed they do. But what film company could pass up the juicy temptation of making mega bucks by making more then three films? Look at Spiderman. There are plans to make a 4th, 5th and 6th one of those and apparently there are no signs of it stopping. Pirates broke the weekend opening record last year, and Spiderman 3 has just broken that record. So, here are two "trilogies" making mega money that are not stopping at three. It's the way Hollywood works.

The movies are going through a new era... big epic movies.

Well....I would say these films like Spiderman and Pirates are just big blockbusters....they're not particularly epic, as there are many super hero films around and many action films. The 50-60's were the era of epics with the likes of Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. There are a few epic-like films knocking round though, brought on I believe by Gladitor.

Yeah... I can see that.. I have just noticed that after Lord of the Rings.. movies seemed to change... not really sure how though.

I think it was due to Gladiator, when in a way, it went back to the Roman dust filled epics of the 50's, and people realised that there was a market for long...dust filled films. Hence we have films like Troy, The Passion of the Christ, 300, Kingdom of Heaven etc. Even films like LOTR can only have benifited from films like Gladiator. And of course, LOTR brought it's own change to cinema as fantasty was no longer something for kids and about goblins and fairies. And because of the popularity of Harry Potter and the fact it was based on a child's book series, there are now lots of other films based on kids books in very recent years, that have been made. Eragon, Narnia and.... Stormbreaker I think it was called?
So, you can see how the popularity of films can influence others. And because at the moment Pirates is in a league of it's own, I can see it going on for many years.

Oh dear...
I mean absolutely no offense to Mr. Depp...but I don't think I could stand any more POTC after AWE.
Edit: Anyway, trilogies are best!

Too many movies, and a series just gets old...I'd prefer it if they just ended PotC after the third one...-_-

I will personally assassinate Gandhi the next time I see him if they make more than three PotC movies because it's .... no, it's just wrong. At World's End is supposed to wrap it up, please let them be wise and not go down the road that Star Wars paved. THERE IS NO SHAME IN THREE MOVIES.
So, if you value Gandhi's life, please hope there isn't more than three.
