Shannon watched Mort sadly. She didn't know what to say or do to him. She slowly ran her fingers through her hair and sighed deeply. "Mort... whatever is bothering you, you have to get rid of it. Didn't those pills work?" She asked him softly and nibbled on her lower lip.

"That's right, Mr. Rainey, you shouldn't be sayin' this. Isn't it our secret? Or it should have been!" Shooter said with a raise in his twangy voice.
Grabbing Mort by the hair, Shooter yanked his head back, "Ya may regret what ya did." His other hand then grabbed the bloody knife on the wooden floor.

"NO!" Mort shouted as he felt his head yank back. He tried to struggle, but Shooter's grip was strong like a brick. He couldn't move away.

Shooter laughed to himself and roughly placed the knife in Mort's bloody hand. "This time, Mr. Rainey, you're gunna do the job yourself and I'm gunna let ya watch it."
Lifting Mort by the hair, and forcing the knife to stay in his hand, he made him walk toward Shannon, "This is the consequence if ya don't shut yer trap! I will force ya ta get kill her!"
Twisting his head roughly to the side, he shouted in his ear, "DO YA UNDERSTAND?"

Shannon's eyes widened in terror, as she saw Mort come toward her with the knife in his hand. She swallowed hard and watched him closely. "Mort..." She whispered softly and slowly stood up. She pressed her small body against the wall and started shaking in fear.

Mort tried to stop his legs from moving, but nothing was about to let up. He closed his eyes and pushed his neck towards the other direction in the room. He hid his gaze from Shannon.
"Yes! Just don't do it!" Mort pleaded with Shooter still, trying to pull away.

Smirking, Shooter released his grip on the knife in Mort's hand and violently pushed him to the floor. "You are the only man I have ever met with the guts of a mouse. You can't do anythin' on your own can ya, Mr. Rainey?"
His head twisted awkwardly as he looked to Shannon with a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.

Shannon swallowed hard and saw Mort fall to the floor. She took a deep breath and then slowly walked toward him. She knelt down beside him and tried helping him up. As much as she was scared of him at that moment, she really wanted to help him.

He shook his head at Shannon. "Don’t feel too sorry for me," he said softly.
"I wasn’t going to hurt anyone, I knew it wasn’t worth…I swear, it wasn’t loaded.”

"Have it your way," Shooter said as he turned his back on Mort. "Oh, by the way, I'll be back later tonight and Danny boy better be gone and buried." He pointed his index finger in a demand toward Mort and then stepped out of the front door.

Shannon looked over Mort's face and watched him closely. "Mort... I want to know why you killed him." She told him softly and then helped him up all the way. She took a step back and folded her arms across her chest, while waiting for an answer from him, patiently.

Mort tried to keep balance, but his legs below quivered and felt like loose Jello. He cursed and stumbled towards the couch, upset that he couldn't control his shakes and fear right now.
He shook his hands, and squeezed them togther, trying to make the blood disappear, or somehow just fall to the ground. "I--" Mort started with a clenched throat, "I don't want to be crazy...I'm not crazy...I'm not crazy."

Shannon sighed deeply to Mort and then walked over to him. "Mort... can we just talk about this? Please..." She told him softly and then wrapped her arms around him to calm him down.
