Anyone else a fan of this wonderful and delightful film? The acting is great, the story is excellent! and the romance is heartbreaking! The music is absolutely gorgeous as well. The film definitely deserved all the Oscar wins it got!

I was randomly surfing IMDb.com the other day and stumbled upon the page for this film and was shocked to learn that it was rated R in the US, whereas here in Sweden it's always been considered a Family Film and rated 7. Anyone know why the US gave it such a high age-rating?

I've always seen it as a cute romantic little story, but nothing more, so I was surprised it won the Academy Awards. Which ones did it win, I don't remember...

Wouldn't the reference to sex and possibly the nudity give it an R-rating?

It won 7 Oscars I believe, including Best Picture!

I suppose so, but I still find it weird since sex and nudity are normal things in 'Barntillåtna' (G rated) films here in Sweden and Shakespeare in Love was definitely not the most naked film in history. Oh well, their loss I guess.

Best Picture... wow... :-)

Well, it sounds like the criterias for the ratings are different in Sweden and the U.S.

I thought it was good, nothing more. I don't think it deserved to win best picture, but that could just be me. :)

Oh, this movie was so good. :)

I really liked the ending...how it just ended with her walking on the beach. I don't know why, it's just cool. :P

Once again, I'm convinced that I was meant to be born in Sweden. It's 14 in Canada as opposed to 18 in the US though.

I haven't actually seen this movie, but I've been meaning to. Hopefully I will soon.

the only thing i really remember about shakespeare in love is having to explain to my sister who kit marlowe was. i think i liked it well enough at the time, but i don't think it's anything special

i much prefer stage beauty - the two are very similar, butstage beauty's funnier and the scene from othello that they do at the end is just amazing.

oh i adore that movie. and the costumes are just amazing (yes i'm a costume obcessive!). and Judi Dench is great as Queen Elizabeth.
Wouldn't it be great if Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter was a real shakespeare play? :-D

(and i checked amazon, here in england its rated 15. probably for the sexual content)

I always cry when they're performing "Romeo & Juliet" in the film. The soundtrack is so delightful as well, especially the main theme!

Loved this film, I can't really describe why - but it was just a really lovely story.
And, I agree - the music is very pretty.
