((I love your banner, Valera, though I would have to say that Rodney McKay would disagree ))
A mercenary, a would be scholar...Amaran's ears were open to everybody's stories. He figured knowlege was power, and right now he needed power. As naturally as possible he sidled next to the two women he heard talking and offered them a friendly smile and a nod in greeting. He hoped they wouldn't object to his precence. He certainly didn't have any maliscious intents, but he learned from experience that conversing women preferred thier privacy.

Jada glanced coldly up, sparing Amaran only a dismissive scan from her dark eyes. She followed the path ahead with her gaze, left hand absently tracing a pattern on the hilt of her scimitar, and did not meet Arielle's again. No, she could never be a mercenary...runaway or no, Jada knew her conscience would prick her before too long should she try her hand at that job. "Nay," she finally replied with a shrug. "Idle curiousity."
But this realization jarred her into another. She had too many morals for the trade, then? Since when had she worried about morals?
Jada shook herself, annoyed. She was not here to spark revelations within herself, only to wait until the moment was ripe to make a speedy departure - alone. And then on to running, hiding...
She let the barest of sighs pass her lips.

Ruthnak decided if he was going to be travelling with these people, he might as well get to know them a bit. He quickened his pace until he was even with Amaran. "So, what do you think of all this?" he asked, without preamble.

Kiana kept quiet as she walked but kept her ears focused on the conversation of those around her. After a while she was lonely and dropped back to Jada.
"I don't think we've met, I'm Kiana." Kiana said with a small smile.

(lol, Nauriel ... but then, McKay disagrees with a lot of stuff)
Arielle let an eyebrow rise at Jada's response, and was about to question her further, but the younger woman seemed to close in on herself. So be it, then.
She turned just in time to catch the half-orc's question. "I'm thinkin' we've got a job on our hands, and no mistake," she replied, then realized the question hadn't actually been directed at her. Mentally cursing her quick tongue, she extended a hand, introducing herself to both the men. "Arielle Merced. Hired blade extraordinaire, at your service - or rather his." She rolled her eyes, implying that it was the mage she meant. "What do you know of this 'Lady Silverhand'?"

Crove couldn`t help overhearing the question about Lady Silverhand and chuckled quietly to himself before answering the question before anyone else. Their opponent was far more powerful than these people began to realize, but either way, running or completing their mission would be a suicide. So everything left to do was how to commit this suicide... or how to slip from fate`s grip.
"Lady Alustriel Silverhand one of the seven sisters, all daughters and chosen of the goddess of magic, Mystra. Thus naturally she is more powerful than almost anyone in magic with formidable powers. All tough I must assure you, she can be killed as she was bred from a mortal yet I doubt we as a group could never succeed in it. That is what we are up against, but take heart from the fact that she known to be fair and might spare your lives...
But then again we look back, we see the city of Luskan, it`s towers and the stench of decay that strongly emits from it. We can of course choose try to survive against the powerful mages of Luskan or we could just run away. Yet... if one of us runs away so will probably the rest and when we are alone, we will not stand a chance of surviving....
Just reminding you of our options, if your harbor thoughts of escape or otherwise, which I am sure all of us do."
He said with a smirk.

"Jada Cobaltin," said Jada. Her fingers still traced a pattern on the wire-wrapped hilt of her scimitar and she frowned down at the path momentarily, where her boots padded softly on the packed dirt. Then she shook herself. "Jada Cobaltin of nowhere in particular, and no profession to speak of since that lovely sojourn in a jail cell. Pleased to meet you."
Her smile was a little tersely ironic, but genuine through the wearily resigned mask nonethless.

Kiana grinned, "Charmed."
She looked down the path and sighed inwardly.

Well, apparently nothing was private around here. Arielle threw a sidelong glance at the one who'd named himself Crove. "And why would we be wanting to escape, now? This vengeful mage has been so good to us. Water, provisions, weapons, armed guards, death threats to discourage desertion - what more could a girl ask? Way I look at it, it's just another job." The way she said it, it was extremely hard to tell if it had been tongue in cheek or not. "After all, it's not everyday you get t'go up agin the godspawned."

Jada opened her mouth briefly - and shut it again. Yes, she'd been harboring thoughts of escape. And despite anything their snide 'leader' might say, she would continue to do so. She would not stand a chance of surviving alone? The young woman could have turned around and laughed in Crove's face. How many years had she survived alone? T'would be seven, now. Jada had a higher opinion of herself than that, though granted Crove did not have the knowledge she did. And she did not intend to give him the opportunity to acquire it.

((@ Valera: And, unfortunatley for those who have to put up with his ego, he's usually right))
Amaran looked at Ruthnak. "What do I make of all it...." he glanced around. "I'm not quite sure. My mind is still trying to grasp for what reason we were freed, for starters. You?"

Ruthnak shook Arielle's hand. "Ruthnak, half-orc, skilled at thievery, hunting, and generally surviving." he directed the last part of his comment towards Crove, hoping he heard.
He nodded in agreement with Amaran. "There are more than enough robbers and cutthroats for hire. Maybe the mage didn't want to spend the money." He smiled wryly.

Crove stopped in his tracks and gazed at them all with an unbelieving face, he couldn`t believe how naive these people around him were and how stupid they thought that mage to be. There was more at work here than just the schemes of one mage releasing a group on a suicide attempt to plunder the vaults of Silvermoon.
"Didn`t want to spend money? That is just a little bit naive don`t you think?"
He said raising an eyebrow and hmphed with clear disgust towards the rest of the groups attitude.
"This mage is not alone, he and his friends picked us for a very good reason due to our capabilities, perhaps survival might be one of them. And they weren`t out of money, if that is what you think, they needed people who were already dead. Officially were going to be executed in Luskans prisoner carnival for the bloodthirsty masses, they can`t just say that we escaped, no. Some other poor fools who had nothing to do with us or them will take our places, there was already blood on all of our hands when we decided to go.
Yet even, if you are good survivors the mages have many, many ways to track you down. Do not look down on mages or any magic user, just because we are not physically fit as some of you might be. And we can create instead of destroying, which my friends should be considered far more terrifying than a fireball hurling at you. They won`t be sending mere assassins after you, if thats what you thought, if they would do that then I would have already left you.
Stop being so naive and start thinking instead of guessing around, we are being used as pawns in politics between two cities and we are to sacrificed."
Crove almost shouted at them with clear frustration and resent towards the group, they wouldn`t last a too long, if they were going to keep this up. On the outside Crove`s eyes were blazing fire and if he could have he would have been spitting acid, but on the inside he was smirking widely. Crove wasn`t going to let them die, oh no, not when he had uses for them.

"Perhaps," retorted Jada, incensed, "if you'd like us to cease acting like naive children you should stop regarding us as such." And she marched on ahead, head held disdainfully high.
Her opinion of this Crove remained the same, and her mind was utterly unchanged - except now Jada had quite a bit more information to mull over. She happily did so. Companions were all very well but this particular companion was less a convenience than a bother, and Jada would be delighted to be rid of him - and in the process, all of them - at the slightest opportunity.

The entire time, Falch'nus remained near the back of the group. He covered their tracks from mere habit, as he seriously doubted Luskan would pursue. Prisoners Carnival had enough victims to keep its sadistic masses sated for a year. He said little, preferring to keep his senses trained on the dark forest. In the process, he observed more than his impromptu companions would have liked.
He found himself agreeing with Arielle Merced's philosophy. Luck was generally not a term he applied to himself, but considering his more or less well-being, he supposed some desperate god must favor him. The female scribe - Jada - was a veteran survivor, that much apparent. The half-orc intrigued him. Savagery was an orcish hallmark, but this one seemed civilized enough. Amaran was one Falch'nus had to watch. A subtle trickle of power beneath that mediocre facade, coupled with the man's general silence, hinted at more than met the eye.
And Crove? Crove was dangerous.
"So we are expendable pawns," he spoke up for the first time. He steadily met the half-elf's blazing eyes. "If we fail, these mages will neither be harmed nor blamed. Yet you believe we have the power to infiltrate Silverymoon. You respect and fear these mages. Do you serve them?" Or are you their emissary, equal in power? he added silently. Do these mages even exist? Or are they simply a scare tactic to keep us blindly serving you?

Crove calmed down as he was once again challenged and turned into the calmer self that he himself prefer. He smirked and shrugged at the words of Falch'nus.
"Do I serve them? Don`t we all unwillingly? Do I fear and respect them? No, I merely suspect that they can do much more than I can. Do I despise them? Yes, I despise all mages over everything for they claim that my kind are wreck less and it was an elven mage order that expelled me from my homeland. Yet about our mission.... anyone can walk trough the gates of Silverymoon and live in the city I suspect, but getting into the vaults is another thing yet I believe that this mage and his friends will provide us the means... have they not seen to our release and equipment, why should the actual theft be any different than our escape?"
He asked, but didn`t expect an answer to his question as it was more of a thought spoken out loud.
