I just saw it. Liked it more than DMC but not more than COTBP. And then again, in some ways I did like it more than COTBP. The wedding scene, the "how can I trust you" scene, and the scene on the island were my favorites. (and no, I'm not a huge Willabeth fan either... :-D ) And I didn't cry!!! I'm so proud of myself, I totally thought I was going to, especially when Will was stabbed. But my eyes were almost totally dry when I walked out...

The Tia Dalma/Calypso thing, IMHO, was just weird. As a Christian, I personally would've preferred they leave that out. Though the Tia/Davy thing was interesting, I'll give it that.

Norrington's death - well, I kinda felt bad for him, but that's all. I certainly wasn't happy when he kissed Elizabeth. :disgust:

Overall, this one was the darkest, yet funniest of the three. I'm probably gonna buy it even though I didn't like DMC.

Edit: I think Lizzie must have the Kiss of Death or something, unless she's kissing Will. Wait - he died after kissing her too! Look at this pattern:
DMC: Lizzy kissed Jack; he died several minutes later.
AWE: Lizzy was kissed by Sao Feng; he died several minutes later.
AWE: Lizzy was kissed by Norrington; he died several minutes later.
AWE: Lizzy kissed Will; he ALMOST died several minutes later. (and would have if not for Jack...)
Interesting, isn't it? :yeahright:

About my question: Ok, well at least I'm not the only one who wondered. Strange.

And I'm not the only crazy person who went in costume. :D I'll post some pics tomorrow. They called me "jackie" sparrow which was funny because they actually called him that in the film.

It was fun. All the people there thought it was cool.

I just saw the movie today and to be perfectly honest, I left with mixed feelings. On one hand, the action sequences were fantastic and the special effects were terrific. I also adored Will and Elizabeth's marriage (probably my favorite scene in the movie). I even liked the monkey in this movie (hated it in COTBP)

However, there were some aspects that left me rather confused. For starters, I had the hardest time understanding Tia's dialogue-which ended up being rather frustrating as her dialogues were meant to explain some of the mysticism of the movie. Secondly, what was the importance of Calypso in the final battle? Did she cause the storm? Everyone feared her and yet she did nothing (unless she caused the storm-which would just have to be an assumption).

Out of curiosity I would have liked to know how the Kraken died and how Governor Swann died. I thought the Kracken was suppose to be nearly unbeatable. I know the Governor Swann's death had something to do with the heart, but how was that if he did not kill Davy Jones? Was the he stopped before that? I would love it if someone could clue me in on these questions.

Thus, while the movie was good, I still have to say that COTBP was my favorite of the three. Perhaps if I see the movie again, I will enjoy it more as I may have a better grasp of the story.

PS: I love your observation Ánië. They certainly seemed to have made Elizabeth have the “kiss of death”

Haha, I totally embarrassed myself by crying at the beginning, from when Norrrington kissed Elizabeth to his death, and I shed a couple tears when Will almost died.

Elenriel, first off HEY! What's up?

Calypso. I'm pretty sure she caused the storm. I got that feeling. There was some sort of scene were Davy Jones was looking up at the sky I think... I don't remember. But that's what I thought.

Don't know exactly how the kraken died. Only know that Davy Jones was ordered to kill it, but since it was his pet it probably wouldn't have been too hard for him.

As for Elizabeth's father, they killed him because he was asking too many questions about the heart. Don't know how. I assume they just shot him and dumped him overboard or something.

There's loads going on. I definently want to see it again myself.

All I can say is that I agree with you one hundred percent! Plus (at least to me) she became extremely boring.

Yes, it is. I had never really noticed that. However you are one hundred percent correct! Do you think that they did it that way on purpose?
Oh, and by the way I love your new Willabeth animated banner. The lyrics to "Keep Holding on" by Averil L. and "So far Away" by Nickleback are nice touches.

FRODOFAN, I and my sister both went in costume. Well, kind of. See I wore my eco friendly, green, shirt with the phrase "Orlando Bloom makes my..." (on the front) heart go boom (on the back), put my hair up curled it, and painted my nails and toe nails to match my shirt. Then my little sister dressed up as a pirate...complete with a sword made out of toliot paper tubes sword. (laughs) :-D

Elenriel Greenleaf, The way I take (judging by what I know about mythology... my mother had to study this (even though she too is a Christian)) they were impling that Tia Became the malestrom.
Then I do not think that we were told how the killed the kraken just that the navy order Davy to kill it.
Then we do not know how Swann died (for sure) either. Becket did have him killed though because he was asking to many questions about the heart. In probability they probabley drowned him or shot him and then threw his body into the sea (as FRODOFAN) said. Anyway that is the way I took things. I could always be wrong though. (shrugs)

Banana Republic, I agree with you. In truth I found it very nice to see Norrington refuse to even think for a moment of joining Davy's crew. It made him seem even more noble and honourable (as you said). It was beutiful and fitting for him. It indeed made the lose of the character easier to deal with (at least for me). Kudos to the writter's for writting that scene and to J. Davenport for preforming it so wonderfuly.

Oh, I am so jealous. lol I probabley won't get to see it again until it comes out to dvd. However when it comes out to dvd , I am buying it as soon as possable. It's not that I do not want to see it a second...or thrid...or fourth... though. It is just that sadly I am unable to. (sniff) Oh, well. I am glad that many others here are going to get to see it again though. :-D

Well, it's a movie. I don't know why, if you were a christian, the Calypso bit would bother you... I mean... there are people being killed right and left and everyone is betraying each other. They're pirates. Not sure how that is okay, but the mythological aspect isn't...

Ha ha about Elizabeth. That definently is interesting... Never thought about it before. She did kiss Will in the first movie though and he didn't die then... Very creepy.

Here's me in my pirate outfit. I'm on the right. On the left is my friend who came with me.

Hey Frodofan! Nice seeing you. Sorry I haven't been around Middle-earth too much.

By the way, thanks for the info/guesses Frodofan and Drew. I guess I somehow missed the scene when Davy was ordered to kill the Kraken-was probably trying to figure something else out at the moment. I just found it unusal that I understood Tia speech better in the second movie than in this one. A lot of times, I think I understood what she was actually saying about 5 seconds after the fact-which can irritating-I hate it when I miss something-especially in a movie.

But to be fair, I did love the special effects-the storm was just so cool and the Will/Elizabeth marriage was just classic-I think it was funnier that it was Barbossa who married them.

WOW! A day without posting and only 2 1/2 pages to catch up on! This is slowing down! :-D

Oh, yes. Critically it was even less popular than AWE. Most reviews of DMC were just packed with insults and abuse. Even the great Jack Sparrow was not enough to make most critics like it.

I don't think Jack was as good in AWE or DMC as he was in CotBP. But he was still the only thing that held the movie together. And though I may be the only one here who does, I agree with the critics. IMHO, AWE deserved the C+ it was given.

FRODOFAN wrote:
Here's what I think of the three movies.

CotBP: All around great adventure. Funny stuff and Serious Action combind.

DMC: More fun then anything else.

AWE: More serious action then funny stuff. Like a grande finale. Packed. It had funny stuff but it was a heavier movie than DMC.

Packed being the key word. The CotBP story-line was so simple, yet rather involved, and you could actually follow along. my 3 year-old brother gave me this summary of CotBP.
"Jack was in a cage [meaning the prision at Port Royal lol]. Will got him out. And then they were friends."
I have no idea how he'd be able to summerize AWE! :P I can't even do that!

But your summary shows another thing, the movies had nothing to do with each other.

BTW, JF, thanks for answering my question about Becket's ship! You put my mind at ease. :)

FRODOFAN, I really do not know why it bothered me at all but it did. Part of it really was though because I found it boring. I saw it as an easy way out. Also that lead to the "huge Tia" scene and that was just cheesy. She did not end up being of major assitence to our main group (she just became a storm). I do not see as how that helped either side (as somebody else on here has allready stated. Sorry I do not really remember who it was.). So why even bother having her be in the third film other than for the simple fact that they left her storyline haning in the Dead Man's Chest? ect I just would have rather to have seen her be somebody else. Something that really would have shocked me. Just my opinion though.
Good point. However he did nearly die latter on.
Cool picture. Your costume looks great. Thanks for posting it for us.:-D

Elenriel Greenleaf, You are very welcome. :-D
Hmmm, I am sorry that you found it harder to understand what Tia was saying. In truth I had a little bit of a hard time as well. However I think that I had an easier time understanding what she was saying in At World's end than in Dead man's Chest. I do not know why though. Hmm, I guess I just must have gotten used to it or something.
Oh, I agree. The storm was cool looking. Then as for Barbossa marring Will and Elizabeth...I loved it. It was very entertaining. That was unexpected. I never really guessed that he would marry them of all the people in Pirates of the Caribbean. Plus I think that he really nailed that scene. As I said earlier perfect payoff for the Willabethers!

TheThain, Well I did/and still do Love Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's chest. However I think that At World's End might be my very favorite of the three. One of the thing's that I loved about At World's End was that it was not just all straight forward (in that very moment). That you had to keep following the clues from the last movie and keeping up with what was happen at that moment in At World's End as well. I would agree that it was a bit complex and that was one of the main reasons why I love it so much. However I do not think that it was as convoluted as many critics have made it out to be. Personaly I did not have too terrible a time keeping track of what was going on. Then again I am a person who loves to have to think during a movie, a bit. I do not want to just be spoon fed everything.

True! I absolutely adored that scene. I love the "You may now kiss-" and he gets interrupted several times and finally says "Just kiss." I was laughing so hard at that point.

Speaking of WIll and Elizabeth, I have another question-how long does Will get to stay on land? (Probably missed that in the movie too) Does he get to come ashore every 10 years and for how long? (I sure hope it is more than one day...)

PS: By the way Frodofan, I love your costume!
