<center>Nothing but the Rain</center>

Raye was now residing in his bedroom, he had checked HYENA's administration CP and the schedule for the new few weeks on his laptop and changed into his vest and boxers to sleep. He turned off the main light but kept his lamp on as he grabbed a worn-out book from a near-by stool, going into his bed and shuffling into a comfortable position.

He considerately opened his book and began reading the page he had bookmarked but noticed something which he figured was quite enigmatic. A rusty, copper key was left out on the carpet, close to his bed. He gently layed the book on his lap and edged towards it to examine it... it was from his precious wooden box containing sentimental or secretive pieces.

Raye cautiously slipped out of bed and dug into the numerous possessions under his bed - until grasping his b]ox. He pulled it out and opened it with slight dread, he checked that each item was there including the key that he found but when he was on his final one, to his horror, he reliased it was missing.

After thrashing around for a while, Mai decided sleep was not going to come just yet and she got up again, pulling on some clothes. She didn't understand how she'd felt so tired, and now she couldn't settle at all. She'd tossed and turned a hundred times, and the minutes seemed to go backwards. She folded her arms around her and looked out of the window, the light from randomly lit windows made pools of yellowy gold on the lawns below. Mai sighed to herslef and headed out of the room, to the library where she hoped to find something to settle and dull her mind.

She trailed her hand alond the banister going down the stairs and walked along one of the many corridors to the library. It was opposite one of the main lounges; light spilled out of there but Mai still went to the library, switching on a few lamps as she went.

Lyn stared out in the darkness. She sighed heavily and wiped a few tears off her face before she turned and went back into the school. She wandered around the corridors, not really knowing where to go to, but she just couldn't go back into bed to sleep. The school seemed even bigger in the darkness, but Lyn didn't care much as she kept going through the school. She was scared, but somehow the darkness comforted her a bit, giving her the feeling not being watched all the time.

Raye, with a dim outlook for his future, broodingly tucked his box back under the bed and descended down into the ground floor. His feet were bare so the sharp freeze of the marble floor caused him to shudder but he kept on going, making his way into the kitchen. He drowsingly opened a cabinet to fetch himself a medium-sized glass and poured water from the tap into it.

Raye exited the kitchen and strode along the hallway, passing the library as he sipped it slowly until he caught sight of Mai inside. He took a step backwards, entered the room and sat down besides her, taking a second sip from his glass, "Couldn't sleep either?", he inquistively asked.

"Well who's looking for you?" Marsia asked kindly. "If you mean those guys, I don't think they'll try to get us. Wait, you're different, aren't you? You're like me, right?" She twisted her body around in a fashion that not even trained human contortionists could do.

Mai smiled and put her book to one side, "No, I couldn't stop thinking about everything, it was all just going around and around in my head and sleep just wasn't going to come. What about you? What was keeping you awake?" She asked, pulling her legs up on to the sofa to sit cross legged.

Raye sighed, "You know that gun which I attempted to shoot Darius with? Well - it's to deactivate mutants' powers and paralyse them for a limited amount of time. When we first created it in the research lab, I kept the first sample in a dart and kept it in a secret box under my bed. And now it's missing...", he explained, his eyes showing slight fear, " If it gets in the wrong hands - it could result in disasterous ways. It could even be replicated!"

His hands started to shake so he placed the glass of water on the counter besides him, frost brimming the glass and the water freezing into patterened ice. Raye then gradually turned to Mai, "It's my fault for being so careless."

Mai took one of Raye's hands in hers, ignoring the coolness of it, and looked at him sympathetically. "It's not your fault Raye, things don't just walk off on their own and you tried to keep it safe. You kept it hidden away in a secret box, someone must have had to rummage to find it. You tried to keep it safe, people cannot deny that. Who could have taken it? You don't suppose Takeshi or Yumeko could have taken it for safe keeping or anything?"
