Aw, that's too bad. Lol, yeah, I actually considered doing it in real life, but I think I'll just pick a movie and stick w/ it.
I'd invite you to come with us when we go watch it,LoT, only I don't exactly think that would work all that well.

Hey mates, I know we already more or less resolved the whole Will-Captain-ten-years thing a while ago, but I thought I'd share a really neat conversation my friend Val, also known as Stab o' the Cutlass on KTTC, had (via pm) with Ted Elliott (one of the writers).

Val wrote:
If a green flash signifies a soul returning from the afterlife, would it be valid to think that any crewmen of the Dutchman who didn't want to continue serving (unlike Bootstrap) were allowed to be set free by Will, and the green flash that appears as Will goes back to the land of the dead signifies thier souls returning and cutting them off from thier obligation to the Dutchman?

Ted wrote:
That's exactly what I'm going to say it means from now on.

Putting the green flash in when Will sails away was not a decision I would have made, and I think that if Gore had been certain he was going to include the "ten years later" scene, he wouldn't have made it either. But, due to the effects schedule on this movie, once the shot was completed, it could not be redone (with the exception of the ocean, the whole thing is CG -- the ship, the sunset and the green flash).

I've been trying to figure out some sort of explanation for it in context of the story, but yours is hella better than anything I came up with.

So, it's canon.

Thanks!

So, as a final, absolute answer to the ten-year thing, there you go. And then, just the other day, she got ANOTHER pm from him that is quite interesting:

Ted wrote:
Hey Stab-o (sounds like an evil clown) --

Terry and I are going to be doing the DVD commentary soon, and I'd like to mention the meaning of the green flash at the end (not the end-end, just the first end ... sheesh). Since that was your idea, I'd like to give you credit. Do you mind sharing your name with me, or just your first name? If not, I can use "Stab o the Cutlass," but I'd at least like to be able to use "he" or "she" accurately.

Thanks

She's actually going to get a mention in the commentary! :swoon: I mean, there was at least one remark in the DMC commentary that I'm 99% sure was referring to something I've discussed with one of them before, but she gets her NAME in the commentary! She's gonna be immortalized by the writers! *dies of envy*

potr - WOW! :swoon: That is SO amazing! I only wish I would've joined that forum long ago! :P And I still think it's amazing that you were probably mentioned in the DMC commentaries - even if you weren't named

Well, I know that this is probably not very interesting to any of you, but I really AM going to see it again tomorrow! :D YAY! *party dance*

I think I might steal your idea, JF, and take a notebook :teehee: My mom called me a geek for the idea :P

I believe the forum that potr is talking about (although I could be wrong) is Keep to the Code. I am not a member, hence my other comment ^^ ;)

And, again potr knows more about this than me, I think that the writers of PotC post on the forum sometimes? a lot? I don't know :P

I'm soo jealous! Don't worry, PotR, there's probably dozens of refrences about you in the DMC commentary, i can see the writers talking about mentioning you, but forgetting your screen name, so they just talked about what you guys talked about in hopes that you would pick up on it....

yay Gil! you'll finally get to see all the madness!

Here is a pretty cool interview with Ted and Terry. It is very long though and there are a few cuss words (just to give you a heads up) http://www.boxofficemojo.com/features/?id=2323&p=.htm

Pirateoftherings, Thanks for posting that for us! I thought that that was quite interesting. It is way cool that your friend got to talk with/(write to) one of the writters. :-D It is also Really cool that she is going to get mentioned in the commentary. I am sure that you were probabley mentioned in the commentary too though...or well mentioned what you have said. In truth I can not see how they could not. You really are up to date on the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff and are nice enough to share some of it with us (which by the way thank you a hundred times over for). :-D

Saw POTC again today, made a lot more sense to me and there's a few interesting things we picked up on (me and my brother) that I don't think have been metioned before. Post more about it tomorrow.

BTW, where is this forum that the writers talk to normal people? Or is it some secret place that cannot be found unless by those who already know where it is? ;)

Dark Queen of Angmar, You are very welcome. One of my friends elsewhere had posted that and I figured that some of you here might enjoy reading it as much as I did. :-D

JF and Bow_and_arrow, I believe that Pirateoftherings was talking about KttC but for a long while (around here) it was reffered to as the site that could only be found by those who allready know where it is. However I could be wrong and she is not talking about kttC or do you mean that you want to know what KttC stands for?

Okay I have a question, did we ever learn what Gibb's first name was or how/why he became a pirate? My mum was aksing me those questions the other day and I found that I sadly am unable to answer them.

No, I think we would both like to know the link for it. ;)

Good question. His first name is Joshamee. I'm thinking he may have been expelled because of his drinking, but I also am thinking it was due to something to do with a Pirate chase he himself was invloved with at one time. The line in DMC, has always confused me when Norrington said when signing up for the Pearl's crew, that his (Norrington's) story was the same as your (Gibbs) story just one chapter behind, which makes me think Norrington knew why Gibbs left or was expelled from the Navy and it was for a similar reason as his own.
