What's so emotional about that part? That's the scene where everyone in the theater jumped (if it was their first time watching it). I was not very touched by that, except in a startled way.

I think the emotion comes from the realisation of how the ring affected Bilbo, someone so close to Frodo, and the way he growls at Frodo, then repents after, It kinda hits home how the ring has infiltrated even the happyness and innocence of the beloved Bilbo, i think its quite an emotional scene, but not the most emotional. Also you see how much he has aged so suddenly without the ring, he seems so empty now he no longer has it, and you realise how much they care for each other in that scene.

^Yeah, but it still gave lots of people heart attacks! It's so fun to watch people who have never seen the movies react to that scene!
...Unless, of course, they literally have heart attacks, in which case---it wasn't my fault! *runs for hills*

The most touching scene would be Boromir's death and Gandalf's death. The coolest would be umm...in the EE. The fight in Moria is soo cool.

*sigh* another Flight to the Ford lover. Pffft. That scene would have been so much cooler if Glorfindel had been in it.

to me the most touching scene in FOTR is when the fellowship goes out from Moria without Gandalf, it is so sad that here my heart bleeds more.
And also one of the most moving scene is when Gandalf lights up with his stick the city of the dwarves underground and all the fellowship sees it in its splendour. It always causes me a lump in my throat

Yeah, but the reasons behind using Arwen were good enough for me, plus, I quite enjoyed seeing Liv Tyler in an action scene!

Which bit, at the end? I love that bit, where Frodo calls Samwise, 'Samwise the Brave!'

Yeah.. that one was isweet also.
I was thinking of the one in the Gondorian twon (don't remember name). After Frodo just about hands the ring over to the Nazgul and Sam stops him. That speech almost made me cry.
So sweet..
*tear*
AKA. The "Those are the Stories" speech.

In FotR only, it's probably Boromir's death, and the whole scene around it... Aragorn fighting, the hobbits throwing rocks, etc...

I thought the most touching scene in the Fellowship of the Ring was Gandalf's death.
Yes, Boromir was ,but Gandalf to me seemed to stick out more. This is because, this was a wizard who was friend to everyone in the Fellowship, he was wise and a leader and I think it took a part of everyone when they saw him fall.
To be specific, Aragorn...because now he has to take on that leadership/kingly like role, in which he has been ducking and dodging for many decades.
And also Frodo it seemed to impact the most...that was his best friend and council...that single tear that Frodo shedded on that mountain side of Moria mean't a lot.
^I am not saying that his death didn't cause me to well you know...*sniff sniff* but to me even though deep down inside Boromir was being slowly corrupted by the ring, there was some tension with him in all there hearts. He fought bravely for the Hobbits...but to be truthful I think that is how he earned everyone's respect. So, when I saw that scene yes I was like, awww but at the same time I was saying 'Well you did scare Frodo and cursed him!' So, hose mixed feelings there.^

And whither then? I cannot say.

I loved the most the scene where Boromir sacifised himself to save Merry and Pippin. I also get really moved everytime I see Boromirs death and I think the one were Sam almost drownes himself to follow Frodo, is one of the best scenes.
I just can't choose between them..

I would agree with many of you with the scene of Boromir fights to protect Merry and Pippin, except that it makes me too sad...beyond touching or cool. It's the same with Gandalf's death.
This will probably seem to odd to many of you, but I love the scene just before the Battle of Amon Hen. When Aragorn kneels down and closes Frodo's hand over the Ring, and the devotion he shows to Frodo. His eyes are so full emotion, it almost makes me cry.
Also, when Frodo pulls Sam back into the boat and Sam says, "I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise. Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to. I don't mean to." He's just so honest and devoted to Frodo.
