Ok. I've always wondered something. I mean, I know alot of US citizens (myself included) who dream of one day going to Italy, France, England, Ireland, Australia... I think you get the general idea. But I've always wondered - does anyone outside the US dream of taking a trip to America?

Erm.... not really.

I became a bit obsessed with the idea of going to New York a few months ago, but that was mainly because of a certain actor *cough* I found out who lived there.

No offence though, there aren't any places I really dream about going to..... except Dinseyland Paris... and that is more of a dream about going back. *dreams*

As someone who has visited the US quite often, I can't really respond to this question the way I want to. The US has it's good qualities, and there are some lovely places to go, it's just Britain is my home and I'm loathe to leave it often.

Hmm.... I was just wondering. And I'm not really surprised... I never thought of America as a country that made people want to come and visit us. Not so historical, either. And to me at least, I just adore a place with lots of history.

Aye, you do. Personally, I've always wanted to visit some of the more historical aspects of the US. More recently, I've wanted to visit the Smithsonian and the Holocaust Museum/Memorial. Sadly though, I haven't had the chance..

Really? I'm pleasently surprised! Sometimes I wonder if anyone but us proud Texans are aware of the whole history of the Alamo... I think one of my favorite parts of the storyline is when the Texans put up the flag with the canon - 'Come and Take It' : http://www.ericsiegmund.com/images/fire ... takeit.jpg

Have to love it...

But yeah. I myself have been there once, and you can see all kinds of cool stuff there.... It's funny though, only about 1/3 of the Alamo is original. Most of it is plaster/concrete that was put in afterwards because the mission was so torn up! Anyway. Enough of that. Yes, we do have several natural attractions, but... I don't know. I personally wouldn't strive to come here if I didn't live here.

Well.. I'd like to see Grand Canyon (a schoolmate went to USA last summer) and a coupla cities but as it has been said before, I don't like countries without long-as-heck history much.

Oh yeah and Yellowstone I have a photo of it on an old notebook o' mine.. tis lovely.

Well, I definitely have to agree, the US isn't nearly as interesting as pretty much...anywhere...because of it's lack of history But as others have pointed out, we do have some very nice natural features I have been lucky enough to travel to many different states here, and I've seen a lot of what our country has to offer - and I think that if this wasn't my native land, I'd still want to come here

[but then again, I haven't really been to Europe/Asia/Africa so I don't know what I'm missing ]

Well, I guess being Canadian makes me not technically American (heh...amazing logic there, Mel...) but I would have to say I wouldn't get nearly as excited about visiting the US as I would, oh, Europe or Australia or somewhere. I think that's mostly because Canada and the US are pretty similar as far as culture and living conditions go, so it wouldn't really be new for me.

Wow...also a Texan, I had no clue other people would be interested in our history. The rest of the country tends to make fun of Texas for its history. Rawr. Anyhoo, I got to go to the Alamo on a field trip in fourth grade. It was lots of fun.

I also really, really want to visit a Holocaust Museum. Really. After reading the Diary of Anne Frank in eighth grade and learning all about it I just wanted to learn more. Unfortunately, when we did travel to Washington DC last summer, we couldn't go to the Holocaust Museum there. My sister was only 11 and probably wasn't (and still isn't) mature enough to handle the experience. So that's something I still really want to do.

As for Europe...let's see, could I possibly see ALL of England? (Hey, it's my homeland...400 years back...) But I would definitely want to see more than just London, you have to see the countryside that Tolkein & Lewis loved. And their pub! I want to visit the Eagle and Child.
I want to visit Ireland...(my Dad's in Dublin right now for work, I begged him to take me with him but I guess not. ) And Paris! I have to see the Opera House. And Austria. Major Sound of Music fan here. I have friends in Germany, a woman who lived as an exchange student with my mom when they were in high school and her kids. Plus I just want to see Germany. And The Scandanavian Penninsula. And Italy. And Greece. And Spain.

I agree with you (US citizen). I love the US because it's my home, but there's a million other places I'd like to live. Including England, Italy, and Austria.

I am a proud American, don't mistake me. I'm not trying to put the US down.
But being an American I am amazed at how old things are here. I mean my Dad's flat is 500 years old. In the US by the time it's 100 they knock it down!!!
