I didn't like Buckett at all, not one bit, he is such a great villian, i dont even feel any remorse for his death...

greekevenstar, if you want to put a banner in your sig, just but the URL code in between: [ img ] and [ /img ] but take out the spaces and it should work.

I believe the mark Jack left on Beckett was the scar on his throat from CotBP. When Beckett says "We've both left our marks on each other" his hand strays briefly to his throat and it seems he makes an ever so short rhetorical pause, so I always took it he was referring to that incident.

I was sad to see him going down though... I love thoroughly evil villains with snobbish British accents (no offence to the dear Brits amongst us).
But bad guys usually don't give up so easily... why would he pull a Titanic and go down with his ship? What happened to Beckett in the end? Was he overcome by disillusion? Because the way I see it, he was still able put up a decent fight - not all was lost for him. Or was it the evil script writers again who just wanted to get rid of him...?

Hi fellow PotC fans, I might be new to this AWE discussion but definitely not to Pirates or AWE. My favorite characters are Will, Norrington, and Barbossa (sure it's kind of a strange combination) and I think it's so cool that there are some actual James Norrington fans here! Whenever I tell someone I like him I always get a strange look (or people ask "Who's he?". Isn't that sad?)... but I was almost heartbroken when he died!

I just have to say all of you have so many great thoughts on some things my brother and I have thought and talked about and we've come to a lot of the same conclusions most of you have. Anyway, with all that I just have to say DMC and AWE are my all time faves out of the whole trilogy.

So if no one minds if I jump in and give my two cents on Pirates and At World’s End...

Not at all, welcome! Feel free to join our discussion or bring up any of your thoughts on the movie! :D We'd love to hear them!

People don't know who Norrington is?! That is sad... he's a pretty major character!

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that. I'll have to check that out. And I'd also thought that Beckett could have continued the fight, and at least gone down fighting. But I think the reason why he didn't fight back is because he was just completely stunned. After all, he used The Flying Dutchman to control the ocean, and suddenly he finds it turned against him.

Beckett is such an evil, cool villain, naturally I like him. :D

His death was brilliant I think. I also think that Beckett was basically seeing all his dreams shattering around him, and all his visions fading that he wasn't really "with it" when he died, and he certainly wasn't too concerned about getting off the ship alive.

I also think it is some scar to the throat, as I said, I think Jack may have threatened him and actually cut him.

*flyingtacklehuggleglompeths* Finally someone else who lists both James AND Barbossa in their top two! And Will! Bootstrap is also pretty high up there for me, but those three have become decidedly my top characters. Go ecclectic fans! *high fives* (And yes, I'm all too familiar with the "Who's he?" reaction :()

I love all of the main characters, really. Elizabeth, Barbossa, Jack, Will, Jack (the monkey), Norrington, etc.

I was wondering. Does anyone know who the fourth person who tried to kill Jack was?

*raises hand* I have often stated actually that Norrington and Barbossa are two of my favourite characters.

1. Jack
2. Norrington
3. Barbossa

I think that may have been directed Pintel & Ragettis, as part of the crew of the Black Pearl they mutined against Jack... or it may even have been Will. Maybe a few things he has done to Jack, Jack considers as trying to have killed him.

Pintel did point a gun at him in Curse of the Black Pearl, but then Jack skips Will, Elizabeth, and Barbossa, and starts talking to the crew that hasn't tried to kill him, Pintel included. I kind of think he was talking about Jack the monkey, as he helped Barbossa a lot, and attacked him quite a few times in DMC. But this is probably due to my crazy fanaticism for Jack the Monkey. :teehee: Jack (Sparrow) was also very delusional, so he might have just made the fouth person up!

JF, I agree with you that Bucket was a great villian. He was cruel, sinister, sometimes could make you love to hate him (great acting is what I sum that up to), and I Loved his soft, deep, slow, voice that he used. Great villian! (high fives JF)

taurquende, I love your idea that Beckett was branded as a pirate by Jack! That would just be so cool. However that being said though I must admitt that I think that it was probabley a scar across his throat that he was reffering to. Still yet I think that I might actualy like your idea better. lol

Pirates' Destiny, We do not mind you joining to At World's end thread. The more the merrier. So welcome aboard, mate. It is nice to meet you. (shakes Pirates' Destiny's hand). I am Drew's Destiny but feel free to call me Drew, DD, or Destiny for short. :-D
It is indeed very sad that so many people do not even know who Norrinton is. :( (sighs) He was a great character but did not always get the recognition that he deserved.
Ah you like Will, Norrington, and Barbossa, very cool. My three favorite characters from Pirates of the Caribbean (in order) would be Will, Jack (though he just reccently earned that spot ), and Norrington. Who are your least favorite three charcters from Pirates of the Caribbean (same question to everyone else here as well)?

Ea, I actualy thought that Beckett going down with his ship was very cool and not entirely out of character. I think that in that moment he realized that his empire, dreams, and hopes were all being destroyed before his very eyes. He had had control of the Dutchman and now his hold on it was gone, pirates were attacking his ship, the alliances he had made were breaking apart (inclueding the one with Davy Jones), and he had nowhere to run to. I think that he was in a state of shock. So him deciding to go down with his ship made sense to me. Just my opinion though.

Hey, this is too cool! I just knew I'd fit in here! :-D finally more then just Jack fans! People who actually see the other characters potential! And I love your avatar, pirateoftherings.

I too really like Lord Beckett as a villian... and I thought I heard somewhere that the scar Jack left on Beckett happened back when Jack had been a privateer for Beckett and Beckett ordered him to pick up “cargo” from Africa and the “cargo” turned out to be slaves and Jack (even pirates have some morals) set them free. And that made Beckett mad because Jack didn't his follow orders so he branded Jack and sank the Pearl… at least that's the story I've heard… the other story might be right too. I guess either one is cool with me. But that might explain why Beckett is so power hungry? So he could control everything and not have people like Jack question his orders? Although that's not a very bad scar for Beckett… he might think it was though.

And I always thought Jack was referring to Barbossa, Elizabeth, Will and Tia Delma when he was talking about four of them trying to kill him. *shrugs*

It's nice to meet you too, Drew. I would say you could just call me Destiny for short but I wouldn't want us to get mixed up (lol) and since you were the first one to it I'll just say you can call me PD for short (as long as that's not being used!)

My three least favorite characters in PotC? That's kinda hard... I guess I'll give it a try...

1. Mr. Mercer
2. Anamaria (for some reason she just bothered me in CotBP)
3. Governor Swann

@ Ea - Yay for British baddies! :D Lol, evil writers. That's a good one.

@ DD - Great to see more Beckett fans round here. ;) Tom Hollander really did an excellent job of making a character out of Beckett, when other actors may have turned him into a "boo hiss" villain.

Hey Pirates' Destiny! Nice to see a new face in these threads. :bye2:

I have to agree with you when you place Anamaria in your list. Her diction was terrible and she always seemed to be screeching rather than talking.

My list consists of:

1. Anamaria
2. Pintel & Ragetti - don't get me wrong I do like these characters just sometimes it's as if the writers have tried to hard to given them something vaguely funny to say, or have included them in a scene just so they can point out the obvious

I can't really think of a third, but it will probably come to me. :P

^ Hmm, actually, Pintel and Ragetti are two people, you know. :teehee: So you do have three! I agree Tom Hollander did a magnificent job with Beckett. :D He plays Mr. Collins in Pride & Prejudice, too, and it's so funny because they are such opposites.

The story explained! I went back and found this quote by eowynfaramir4eva in the DMC thread...
eowynfaramir4eva wrote:
The East India Trading Company plays a very important role in the movie and the past. Captain Jack Sparrow was once employed under the Trading Company. He was commanding a merchent vessel named the Wicked Wench. Jack didn't complete a assignment Lord Cutler Beckett told him too, so Beckett burned the shiped and sunk it. Shortly after, Jack was branded a pirate. Jack requested Davy Jones to retrieve the Wicked Wenched from its watery grave. After that, Davy named it the Black Pearl. Jack was then captain for 13 years. (2 actually-11 years=Barbossa)

She didn't mention the cargo Jack refused to carry were slaves, but I think we established that part already. :)

Pirates' Destiny wrote:

That would make sense, and it would kind of explain her response, "Don't tell me you didn't enjoy it at the time!" I had always wondered what exactly she was referring to when she said that. Though, thinking through it, maybe I'd prefer not to know. :eyeroll:

Least favorite? In no particular order:
1. Calypso - Calypso in particular, because I didn't have a problem with her in the DMC or in the beginning of AWE, but I began to dislike her because it was hard to keep up with who she was last mad at. Although, her accent was awesome. ;)
2 & 3... I'll get back to you on that. :P

PD, Allrighy I will call you Pd for short. Thanks for allowing me to call you that. :-D Yep least favorite. Cool list.

JF, Yes indeed. There probabley aren't many Beckett fans out there but I just find it impossable to hate him. He just has so much going for him. lol :-D Yay for Beckett fans!

Tarquende, Yay another Tom Hollander fan! (high fives Tarquende) Ooh he played in Pride and Prejudice? I did not know that. Dude, I really am going to have to watch that movie sometime. It sounds like a brilliant movie. Thanks for the information. Oh and thank you for posting EowynFaramir4eva's post. That really does make sense.
Very good list. I must agree with you on Calypso. She just became so boring by mid way through the At World's end and I think that she was mad at nearly everyone in the series. Also I want to know if she had a relationship (at some point in the past) with Jack Sparrow. Does anyone have any information on that? What makes me wonder was the lines enchanged between Jack and Tia durring Dead Man's chest. Jack goes on and on about how they were close in the past and when he walked into Tia's "house" she said something along the lines of, "Ah, Jack Sparrow. I knew that the wind would blow you back to me, someday". I found it...very...strange.
Okay for my least favorite characters I would have to say
1. Bootstrap. He was a dead beat husband and father and so terribley selfish. :yuck:
2. Calypso Her character became boring, I found her anger issues tiresome, and she was overall too predictable
3. Now this one is tough...really I only had two character throughout the series that I truely had any amount of dislike for. I supose I would have to say Mercer just because I found him over the top cruel and he did not have enough background story to really interrest me.
