Bret felt the spot. It was warm under his hand. "It looks like a rash." he said quietly.

Aliana had silently followed the group into the lab, saying nothing as the others spoke. She could feel the fear and worry squeezing her heart and she looked away for a brief moment, not wanting to confront the the inevitable truth that was staring them all in the face.

"It looks like a rash." she heard Bret say which drew her attention back to Shonnalen.

"Then you had better run those tests and see if Ace is the cure." she told Bret. "Before it is too late." she added more to herself as she drew in a sharp breath.

Brendon frowned and stalked out of the room. "NO!!!" He said slamming his fist down on the unocupied desk where a nurse would normally sit.

"But falling apart now will do her little good." she said, gently. "We must guard her and Ace now more than ever. You know as well as I do that there are at least two madmen left out there." she said the calmness of her speech betrayed by the slight waver in her voice. Aliana smirked at Brendon's statment. "True." she remarked. "Or you can use your anger as a weapon against your foes. Control it and it can serve you well." She then turned as Trudy approached them. "Trudy, are you alright?" she asked, her eyes softening. "Trudy-" she paused with as she shook her head. "I am so sorry. This should never have happened to you." she said her voice barely louder than a whisper. She then studied the girl a moment, noticing her slight grimace. "You should not be up." she said softly. "Your wounds need time to heal."

Without another word, Bret walked into a back room. Microscopes and other research tools were back there, carefully hidden from any mobs. Pulling what he needed out, he got to work.

Shonnalen opened her eyes, then sat up. She felt horrible, but she didn't have time to be sick. She pushed the feeling to the back of her mind and got up. She saw Bret in the back room and smiled, then looked out in the lobby where everyone else was. She decided to sit with Bret for a while and pulled up a chair. "I'm sorry for giving everyone a scare." She said quietly.

Brendon walked around the desk to the rolling chair, and sat down. He sae Trudy on his lap. "There, now you're not up and I'm close so you don't have to worry." He tried to smile again, but it didn't work. He wrapped his arms around her waist and took a deep breath, He had to be stong for everyones sake.

Shonnalen went to say something, but was cut off as her head gave a sharp throb. She gasped and pressed the heel of her hand against her head, then closed her eyes forcing herself to relax.
