i couldn't post yesterday because my laptop was broken, so HAPPY BELATED ST. GEORGE'S DAY!!! in true english style the weather turned miserable again, but we still managed a celebratory bbq, and i wore red and white in honour of the day.

Happy very belated St. George Day. I must admit I'm not entirely sure what it is... but I recall something about a dragon... Is it a holiday filled with happy beer-drinking people like St. Patrick's Day?

I just wanted to revive the club... I don't know why really, as I'm not particularly interested in particularly Bristish topics ... but I like coming here. You people are among the friendliest on A-U and even though we did have some topics up for debate that turned into something slightly controversial, I liked how we kept a respectful tone towards each other.

St George slew a dragon that was terrorising the people of a village or something. I can only remember the basics, Ive just gotten up :P

meh so why would we have to bury this club? Its not that lacking in posts and members....

*nodnod* I knew it had something to with a dragon!!

The British Society didn't die... it's merely resting, going on passive mode like so much on A-U while people finish their tests, exams, term projects and semester assignments...

^ And sites. Musn't forget us webmasters precioussss..... ;)

I didn't even know it was good ol' St. Georges day. (luckily) I haven't been anywhere recently to see the abundance of tat they bring out this time of year to "celebrate" such an ocassion.

Make it a national holiday, but please don't bring out rubbish to try and make us part ways with our money, or to encourage more people to have noisy barbecue and beer parties. Purrrlease.

Ooow... I know what you mean JF. It's nearly as bad as Christmas sometimes. Do we really need all that much to celebrate such a simple holiday? And it's only a day mind you! Flags and other such items are just enough thank you. *sigh* Sometimes, I really do loose faith in our society.

i've never seen an abundance of tat. it sometimes seems that half the country never knows it st george's day and the other have don't care. we do more to celebrate st patrick's day than st george's day and he's not even our saint. he was english though.

I agree with the St Patricks thing. mostly pubs trying to sell more booze most of the time though. Thats what the ones around here do anyways.
I think I heard something about st George actually being a roman soldier, who was palestinian by birth or something.

St. Patrick actually was very interesting, but like most other major holidays now, it's been commercialized and now is only associated with booze and clovers.
