Well of course! I doubt I would ever take to the normal way of relationahips these days, the crushing and gossiping and dating and all. I'm waiting for love to happen - Austen-style.
As for the 'dark side' - oh, that sounds too scary for me. I don't want any 'darkness' or anything. But, erm, was an edge the word you used? Definitley tougher, harder than me, yeah. But obviously nice and sweet too. I like your scenario, JF. I think any girl would go for that.

Oo, I'd love to go back to Austen's time in history where men had to ask the girls father to court the girl. Everything was so formal and official. Yet so romantic at the same time!

Pff, who says you have to go back to then for guys to ask if they can court girls? I certainly intend to seek a girls parents' consent before getting serious. I see no reason to ask if I can date someone, but if I intend to get involved in a long term relationship, I'll probably seek her parents opinions, if nothing else.

^Aaayyyyee, but you wouldnt want soemthing terribley traumatic either, because then, said person wakes up in the middle of the night crying because of his childhood. Or maybe it hardened them that just throw pillows at the wall instead.
OOH! OOH!
I want a guy with a small scar by his jaw. A scar with a history.

I agree with that. There are men and women out in the world who are respectful and Jane Austen-like. It will make the man/woman you find even more special because they are so rare -- a gem in pool of fake pearls. You just may have to be patient for this man/woman to come along.

No, I just want them to be cold and distant towards people and the world .... and then I come along and do away with all that.
Yeah, there must be some out there like Jane Austen characters, otherwise we wouldn't be able to talk about this with both blokes and women. I doubt very much that we are the only people on this earth who think like this.

Oh, I seriously doubt we are the only ones.
v_v It wouldn't make sense if we were.

Exactly!
Like in the movies were the it's like:
Guy: I'm cold and distant towards the world...and i'm HAWT!
Girl: Shy, quiet....gets in trouble
Guy: I may be cold and distant, but I am sensitive! I WILL SAVE THE GIRL!
Girl: eep! the cold and sensitive guy just saved me *blush*
Guy: Eh.....hey, her eyes are pretty and sparkly!
Girl: *looks up at guy* *grin*
Guy: *smile* oops, im cold and sensitive...i will leave now
But through a series of coincidences that are very coincidental, they keep seeing eachother, and spend time with eachother, adn she can make him laugh, but he's still tough and cool, but she's softened him!
hooray!

I'm glad you feel that way. Makes me feel very happy to know there are still guys out there who would observe such a tradition. If any boyfriend of mine wants for he and I to get engaged, I'd love it if he asked my parents first. It'd be perfect that way. I'd know that he's comfortable with my parents and that they are comfortable with him.

^I agree. And I also agree with something similar my dad said: everyone around you should be expecting the two of you to get married soon -- it shouldn't come as this big surprise.
I want to know this guy very well before I make any commitments. Actually, I'd rather just be his friend for a while, and then maybe it would become more romantic. But I think there definitely has to be friendship in a good relationship...not just hot love.

I love it! I volunteer! have it happen to me, me!!! *coughs* Well, realistically, I doubt anything like that would happen but I love what JF said... Gwearyan Goatcloset wrote: .... so he has this dark side to him, but is also very quiet and his presence says more than his words.
Swooning. Just reading that...I'm in love. Now. Done.
*swoons some more*

Oh goodness, yes! Marrying for lust instead of love is a mistake I doubt any of us want to make.
As for being friends before becoming romantically inclined toward one another is something I believe in as well. It shows that your relationship has substance and that you can trust eachother as most friends do. If the physical attraction comes later, after we're friends, then that'll be just fine with me.

Lol, glad you liked it. I saw a guy on a TV show that answered my description almost perfectly (apart from the fact he isn't dark or serious looking ) and I just fell in love with the way he looked and everything and I thought.... imagine someone like him, but someone with a dark past or a slight edge to them.

*coughs* Yeah, happened to me once with an obscure little TV show. He completely fits the description of what I quoted. But he's just so wise, someone who you just know you can respect and trust. And he's had a hard past too. He's still sort of in my head.
