^ And you hit that nail on the head pretty darn good too, Drew!
It was that scene in the bathroom that changed my opinion about Draco. He's just a child still, and was being asked far too much to be given the ultimatium of doing the job or death. Far too young. Anyone would be terrified at the prospect of doing something like that.
I really don't believe Draco is evil or means to do wrong. His father has always had these ideas in his head about muddle-borns etc. and Draco was unlucky enough to have those ideas passed onto him. Like Drew said, he didn't know better.
*high fives back* It's nice to see another Draco fan too! And it's nice to meet you. I love your icon! *drools all over Will*

I disagree with the aspect of the Malfoy not having any real love = troubled soul constitutes to bullying. To me, yes it's possible that that could happen, but in his situation? I don't think so. He does get love, it's apparent to the audience after Spinner's End that Narcissa LOVES Malfoy just like any other mother. Lucius also dotes on his son, always being proud of him no matter what---you can't be proud without affection. So the Malfoys have a rigid straight-back aristocratic family with lots of riches and personal bias. They still love each other.
Yes, Malfoy doesn't really know any better, but that doesn't mean it's not wrong. It was his personal choice to be such a bully and to torment so many other children---it's his direct choice to look tough and be respected without earning respect that got him into the mess with Voldemort's plan to murder DD. Although yes, Voldy also forced Malfoy to murder him to punish Lucius, but that was a consequence that is solely put on the fact that Voldemort is evil. The Malfoys, Bellatrix----they're not evil. Of course, they're not. They're corrupt and mislead, but not evil. However, we can't forgive them for the choices they make, however wrong or right they are to them.
Harry once compared Malfoy to Dudley, and the similarities are very striking. They are both bullies, they are both spoiled, and deep down---they are both cowards.
Growing up with love or no love doesn't affect how a person chooses to hate a group of people. Yes, there is a HUGE influence on how they grew up but ultimately it's YOUR choice. Sirius grew up also being preached to about the invalidity of those that were not pureblooded, and he rejected that the minute he made friends with Peter and Remus. That was his CHOICE. Harry grew up with absolutely no love from his aunt and uncle, but CHOSE to love the minute he met Ron and Hermione on the Hogwarts Express.
And similarly, Draco CHOSE to act so prejudice against those "lesser" than him the minute he shoved the other students aside to get on the train. It's all a matter of choice.

Sisilcal, Thank you very much! Well, I must admit that I have allmost always been a Draco fan. It was the bathroom scene as well though that I think that I truly felt sorry for him. Also in that scene I think that it really hit me that Draco (and the majority of the rest of the cast) are still so young. They are all so young and have been thrown into something that they just are not ready for. However I supose that that is usaly how life works....here it is whether you are ready for it or otherwise.
Once again thank you. It was made by JF (Johnny's Fan). Oh, and yes Will is one hundred percent drool worthy.
Kitoky, Wonderful, wonderful points! Yes his mother loves him but I am still not convinced with his father. Perhaps though it is just that his father merely has a very poor way of showing his love. To me sending your kid out into the middle of a war under the command of a mad man who threatened to kill the family is not very loving.
Oh I agree one hundred percent! The fact that Malfoy is unaware that what he is doing is wrong most certainly does not make it right in the least. Also Malfoy's choices are certainly his own choices as well.
Well I disagree that Malfoy's actions...at least solely... got him into the mess with Voldy. His family has close ties (as you mentioned) with him and it was pretty much bound to happen at some point. Draco acting the way he did most certainly helped though. If he had just taken a stand and looked his father or Voldy in the eyes and said no...he would not be up to his ears in this mess. Then on the other hand perhaps he would be dead...a real lose, lose situation for him.
Well, I think that the way that a child is raised does affact how a child chooses to act. It does not make the choice for them but it does have an inpact on them. In most (not all but most) cases a child believes what they are raised to believe especialy until they reach adulthood or middle age. Very good point once again. Sirius most certainly did break out of the family cycle and I respect that character for it. Going against all that you were taught to believe, to the point that the relitives burnt your name off of the family tree, and having to face your own family in a way would be extremely hard. So for him to still make the choices that he made is respect worthy in my opinion. I agree with you.
ElegostEruaphadion, Hello. Nice to see another face around here. Why thank you. We truly are having some very interesting conversations around here. lol Well, I will probabley have to wait until it comes to dvd to see it (very long story) but as soon as I can I will see it. As for the movies ruining the books...I really would not know.

I hope this doesn't seem terribly random here but after reading through your James/Sirius vs. Snape discussion.... I was hoping someone could refresh my memory on how James saved Snape. I honestly can't remember 0_o.
I'm super psyched about seeing the movie. I might even go to the midnight premier but I'm not sure. I'm happy Neville's got a bigger role in this book/film because he's my favourite character.... and I'm so excited to see young Sirius/James/Wormtail/Remus/Snape.

^Well, I think it was in their third year that Sirius tipped off to Snape that something happens in the Shrieking Shack on the night that Remus transforms to the full moon and Snape foolishly followed Sirius's instructions and went down there. James found out what Sirius pulled and rushed down to stop Snape from getting killed by Remus.
Drew's Destiny wrote: Perhaps though it is just that his father merely has a very poor way of showing his love. To me sending your kid out into the middle of a war under the command of a mad man who threatened to kill the family is not very loving.
Well, Lucius didn't send his kid out in the middle of a war. Voldemort sent Draco. Lucius was too busy being stuck in Azkaban. Most likely, Draco was recruited by Voldemort to be a young Death Eater specifically to kill Dumbledore to punish Lucius, without even having Lucius or Narcissa aware until the damage was done. Voldemort could have easily fooled Draco in thinking that this was an honor and it would make his parents extremely proud without knowing the real consequences. I like to think that Narcissa and Lucius would not want such a task for Malfoy.
I'm actually surprised so many people are doubting the movie so much because I absolutely adore the previews and it looks like it's the one movie that they're actually touching on everything that made OotP so wonderful. Sirius will play a huge part, Remus is back from being incognito, we have Tonks---a rather fluffy, purple Tonks--- but Tonks. An amazing casting for Luna Lovegood, the Cho Chang plotline is continuing just like the book, more Neville-character development because of Dumbledore's Army, an amazing set for the Ministry of Magic and the DoM battle.... GAH, I'm just so crazy excited!

I finally watched the new clips from the movie and I have to say I'm loving this movie even more. Luna looks great, there's something about her voice that I like. Also Bellatrix is looking good too.

I sort of liked the previews... I don't think the movie will be as boring as I thought it would be. It looks really good... I think I'll actually like this one. And they'll be going out of Hogwarts a lot, so this might actually be the first Harry Potter movie that I'm anticipating

Bad news for me, guys! I go to France on the 14th July and HP comes out on the 13th over here, so it's likely that I won't be able to see it until I come home, sometime in August! AND I'll be missing the release of HP7 whilst I'm away too, when I come back everyone will have read it! *pounds fist into the floor* I really, really hope I can get it in France, in English! I'm soooooo annoyed! *wails*

I actually like all the scenes they've clipped and put in the trailers and previews---just wonderful, wonderful scenes. I absolutely adore them showing more of Luna, I can't get enough. They need to show more Remus and Tonks scenes though.
I kind of wished they would drop the Snape hitting Ron and Harry on the back of the heads with any soft-padded object that happens to be in his hand at the time. It was cute in the 4th, but OotP is a lot darker, so I'm worried that it'll feel out of place. Snape's character also plays a less subtle role until the very end of the OotP so I want to see how they work with this, if they're going to start out light-hearted or what. I wish we could see Peeves.

By the looks of the trailers, it looks like it is going to be a good film. I watched all the extra scenes and it looks like they are sticking to the book for the most part. Sadly though, there is no Quidditch. Well, I have my tickets and everything
I don't really like who they picked for the young James/Sirius/Lupin/Snape
