Live Earth
Concerts for a Climate in Crisis

Just wondering if anyone is going to watch this. I know I am, i think its a great idea, and its taken everybody long enough to think of something like this.

Your thoughts, views and opinions on this are welcome.

Well these concerts are always a good idea money wise (although what happened to all the dough from the Live Eight concerts?) but I'm super-cynical though, so I'm always wary of these celebrities doing it because they believe in a cause or just because they want people to think they are doing something worthwhile. I'd love to know if they still get paid because that would be kind of ironic wouldn't it?

And I'm also pretty curious if the everyday music fan is watching it because of what it means or just because of the line up of performers?

But don't mind me. I'm just cynical about these sort of things. Always have been.

It's ok JF, it think its perfectly normal to be cynical about these sort of things. And like with Live 8, after the concerts, everything died down and the general population didn't know what happened to all the money they raised.

Personally, I watch it for both, i like live music(even if im not seeing it live in concert) and its sending a good message.

I don't think artists get paid at these sort of charity/fund raising events, that the money they would have earned for performing goes directly to whatever cause that particular event is supporting. I don't think I'll have time to watch much of it as I will most likely be working, but I think it's a super great thing they're doing!

Well, sadly, I won't be able to watch it. One, I'll be working most of the day...but also because I won't be any where NEAR a TV. Ha ha ha!

There are get-togethers all over the country and all over the world to watch it...and discuss things.

I told all my parents and friends to watch it ... since I can't. XD Ha ha ha.

I honestly think its a brilliant idea. Al Gore has things figured out. And it's garnered so much attention...and the issue itself has some much momentum now, I definately think it'll send a message to the world.
So, I'm excited. I'll have my own little Live Earth party tomorrow...XD Play all kinds of good music and bug everyone about global warming and how we need to get our act together. :P
(Not that they don't already hear it from me 24/7 ;) )

EDIT:
So, last night, after work, I watched some of it!
 :bounce:
I watched some of the one in Austrailia...which was amazing. Even though the video of animals...excreting...was gross. :yuck: I don't really know what that one was about...because of the internet connection here...the video feed was sketchy. But, the sound feed was fine. So, I got to listen to some GREAT music for a few hours last night!!!
I also caught some of the one in Japan! Not that I understood a word of it...XD Looked cool, sounded cool. XD
Excited for today! Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood in D.C.!!! *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
:P
But, I went to the MSN thing...where you can stream it live...since I'm nowhere NEAR a television...but apparently there are so many people there streaming...that it's being really slow...and they have to fix it. XD XD
Gotta love it!! XD

I'm watching it now... just having it on as background noise. I'm not overly impressed yet, Genesis was on a few minutes ago but the real party is just starting!

I think most of the artists are really doing it with a pure and idealistic heart - and the good will they'll naturally recieve of it is just a nice 'side effect' to them! And even if they did it for nasty commercial reasons I still think it's great if they can raise awareness about the problems of our earth.

Ohh Razorlights are good!!!

It's a really cool idea, a great mark in history. This is one of those events that will probably be in all the history books our children and grandchildren will be studying in school! And we'll be able to say "yup, I watched that live on TV!". :D

And they'll be like "TV? What's that?!" :p

You're right they don't get paid in cash. They get thousands of dollars worth of "swag" or gifts. For Live Eight in London the preformers got a custom made guitar that was in the shape of Africa, along with some other stuff. It's rather disgusting if you ask me. They could have sent the money to Africa instead of wasting money on making guitars for celebrities.

I imagine the money that's raised for these charity events is from all of the tickets sold to people going to the concert.

Wouldn't surprise me at all Banana. Some big group who were performing at Wembley, where they were all talking about fumes from cars and how we should not travel so much, were travelling (a short distance I believe it was).... by plane.... good message aye?

I'm sorry once again for being cynical, but 99.9% of the peformers are doing it for their own ends. Maybe not finanically, but it looks good on their CV's doesn't it, when they put down they played at concerts to "raise awareness for the plight of the planet".

On the news over here, reporters were at various concerts asking why people were they, and they pretty all much admitted for the music. So I'm not entirely sure what this concert is going to do, as most people are tuning in for the music.

Actually, the artists aren't being paid at all.
All the proceeds from these concerts are going to Al Gore's global warming awareness thingy...whatever it's called...and its also going to lots of ecological charities.

I was listening to the concert in D.C., and it was BRILLIANT. Hands down probably the coolest. :P Of course, I haven't seen them all...so yeah. But, they had all these Native Americans there...and there were bunches of speeches. Educational speeches...:P It was pretty awesome. And Al Gore was there...and he was too wicked. XD I love that man! :notworthy:

I watched the bands I like. I don't see any point in watching bands I don't simply because it's for a good cause.

I think the important thing here is that young people ARE tuning in. Who cares if they just want to hear the artists or support the cause. By watching the concert they'll get fed with all the important awareness ads so whether they want to or not, they'll get to hear about it which is what this concert is all about; bring awareness through entertainment! If kids see that Will Ferrell and Jason Biggs are switching their bulbs to eco-friendly ones they might persuade their parents to go buy some too!

We had here in Romania a Live Earth thingy. Many great Romanian performers tried to tell us that it's not good to do this or that. And one of them was right: "Everyone tells us it's not good, but they don't really tell us what to do."
I especially liked the movies that were on the big screen in between the performances. One was with a penguin that was sleeping on ice. Then the ice broke but the little one was still sleeping and then he woke up in the middle of a gigantic ocean. He decides to swim and the camera shows us that he is swimming past Empire State Building. And everything is covered in water and he can only see the tip of the Building.
And another one was with an angry kid that talked. I liked it. The movies had a great message.

Anyway,enough with my rambling.

I get your point Eru and actually it is very true. Many young people imitate what famous people do. If being eco-friendly is what the famous are doing, they will do it too. The only thing that bothers me is that many of them don't actually do it because they feel it or know what really is going on.
