Geni smiled and watched Luke back away. Something felt awkward. She really wished it could be different, that they could be open with each other. Perhaps a good long ride will clear my thoughts. Geni thought. It was good company to have Nicole. She enjoyed riding with her whenever she could.

Luke looked down at the coins and gasped, "Lady, I can't-" He said, trying to give the coins back, but Lady Nicole had already left. His mouth dropped open and he whispered, "Thank you, Lady Nicole." He pocketed his earnings and glanced at Lady Geni, smiling at her. Oh, she was so beautiful. He was glad Lady Geni didn't notice how he limped slighty on his left leg as he went to contiune working in the stables.

Luke contiuned to work with the horses, cleaning them up. But his thoughts kept going back to Geni. She didn't show what she felt by what he said last night, but it wasn't hatred or disgust, for she smiled at him. Thinking of that made Luke smile as he continued his work.
