Kith glared at the scaled face who had questioned him. "My story is my own, and I'll tell it when I see fit, but not a moment before.". He kept glaring at the scaled man. He seemed dangerous and cruel, someone who would kill friends if it ment gain for himself.
Giowne the gryphon nudged him from behind, as if to say "be nice", but to Kith alone she muttered. You dislike him, and yet you two are kindred spirits. You are looking at yourself.

Kith jumped to his feet, tearing his gaze away from the dragon man. "Giowne, you try my patience too long." he shouted. Fire gleamed in his eyes, and he raised a fist in fury. Then, in mind speak, he added. I have been shaped by my life. The world was cruel to me, I just fought back. You would not know about that.

Giowne saw the flame in his eye. Do you hate me then? she asked to him alone, though a screech lept from her mouth. She flared her wings. You are but a chick compared to me! Do not question what I have or have not experienced! I have seen things that would kill you.[i/]

Kith lowered his gaze. She was right. He did not know about her. The scars on her sides and back, the leg that pained her when rain was coming, the soulfull, lonely look that would come into her eyes at times. All those things she refused to talk about, saying that they were in the past, and it didn't matter anymore. Deep down Kith knew that his friend had experienced the same thing as he had, slavery, a thought he often liked to forget because it gave him an excuse te be angry. Giowne wasn't angry about it though. Kith couldn't be angry at her either. She was his one friend in the world, the one being who stuck to him through thick and thin. If he became angry at her, the only one he could pour his feelings out to, then his life was lost. [i]I'm sorry, friend He said softly, looking into her eyes.

It's alright, little chicklet She said. She nuzzled him quickly, and Kith ran a hand through her feathers. Thier short contact ended as Giowne turned away and Kith walked to the fire. "You will learn my story in time." He said softly.

Rena heard Kith's voice, and just then realized he was back. She turned around to see him walking toward the fire.
"Kith!" she said with a yawn, "Where've you been?"

Zero wanted to hit the man for his retort. Apparently, here was another who wasn't a comradely type. Well, his first attempt to be warm and fuzzy fell flat. Putting a firm hand on the spike of anger that spouted up and firmly hammering it down, Zero retorted, "I was asking of your story of comign here. Not your whole life's story, Mr. High and Mighty. And besides, I wouldn't care to know your life's story. I'm quite content knowing just my own."

They'd better not get used to his attempt at being nice. He couldn't control his anger everytime someone angered him, piles of dead people could attest to that. Oh wait, he forgot one thing. They were dead, thaty can't attest to anything.

Kith, is it? He'd remember that. It might come in useful sometime. And that Gryphon of his, that one had weathered many a battle. Perhaps they could make a deal, him and Kith.

Nonchalantly, Zero introduced himself, "I'm Zero, and you'll excuse me if I don't tell you my life's story."

Then he jumped down some rocks, glided a little on his wings on the way down, and walked off. "Since there's a couple of hours before sunrise, I'd like to get some hunting done, as well as get some water. I'll be back before sunrise."

Seeing perfectly in the dark, Zero walked off. He'd roast the rabbit. He knew just the amount of fire to set to it.

Firis slowly got to her feet, trying hard not to bump Meridian, but he didn't move.

She glanced about her, keeping her eyes down, trying not to meet anyone's gaze. her booted feet made little sound as she walked out of the cave into the darkness.

She leaned against a rock at the mouth of the cave, her arms crossed as she gazed up at the starry skies, they reflected in her brilliant blue eyes.

Airithnu smiled once more at Morley and then sat back down again. "We depart tomorrow, do we not?"

Adillya moved back, annoyed. Ignored, she thought to herself, Of course. The one person who can help gets shoved into a corner.

Adillya stood up and crossed her arms, examing the people and the situation. She was getting rather annoyed at the ego of Zero, and, to her, Kith was appearing to be turning out the same way.

Zero could smell, hear, and see the rabbit. It was a fat rabbit, and it was a male rabbit. He would have hesitated to capture and kill and roast the rabbit if it had been female. It might have young ones, and Zero hated killing mothers, and never touched one if he could help it. Except human mothers. They were the sole exception. They killed his mother, thus the taboo on mothers is excepted for humans. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. How Babylonian.

Zero licked his lips, red eyes intent on the delicious-looking rabbit, and went completely still when the rabbit looked up, whiskers twitching. Then it ran. And Zero ran with it, it was an event he enjoyed, outrunning rabbits, blocking its turns, forcing it to run straight, and straight, until it tires itself out. Zero discovered some time ago that an exercised rabbit is more delicious than a fat one. So the game went on, and on, until Zero realized that there was around an hour until sunrise.

Shoot. thought Zero, even as he grabbed a handful of fire and roasted the rabbit in midair. Scooping the rabbit, excuse him, the quail now fit for eating, from midair in midstride, Zero fully extended his wings to stop himself and to sailing smack-dab into a tree. How vengeful of the rabbit, to be right in front of a tree, as if waiting for Zero to run into it. Not that running into a tree would hurt Zero very much, but he sure would be wounded in pride.

After eating the rabbit, and delicious it was, Zero turned and ran back in the direction he had come. Once he was clear and out of the trees he flapped his wings and flew into the sky. Cool air greeted him, and Zero realized that he never got any water. Oh well, he could do without it for a while, and he'd just exchanged a rabbit for it. Worthy trade.

Just when the sun was beginnign to peek out of the horizon, Zero spotted the cave and dove down for it, wings ready for landing. Just when he was about to smack headdown onto cold, hard stone, Zero strained upwards, wings again fully extended for upward air resistance. Zero didn't really care about flying, but he knew how to fly. He landed lightly on his feet outside the cave, and said, "I told you I would be back before sunrise, and I am." He took a look at the half-risen sun, and added, "And a half risen sun doesn't count, I came back before it rose all the way. Strangely, I have kept my word for all of you, my best friends, and came back before sunrise as I said."

It was true, the part about his best friends. They are his best friends. In fact, they were his only friends. Or rather, they were his only likeness counterparts that resembled friends that could evolve into a friendship.

"So, where do we sail off to, as soon as everybody has risen? Or did anybody sleep at all tonight?" Zero asked lightly.
