I just finished the book last night. Are we still holding up on DH discussion? Because I don't think I can contain myself any longer----and I have a feeling that Vivi was holding it up for me so I'll start...
++++SPOILERS, BEWARE++++
Highlight to read.
First of all. Reading HP 7 has left me clinically depressed. Thank you, JKR.
You've torn open my chest, ripped out my heart, sauteed it in a skillet, thrown it on the floor, stomped on it with cleats, and left it on your windowsill for stray ravens and crows to pick at.
Always a great way to end your series with your fans. Really, it is.
</sarcasm>
DH started out brilliantly, we get to hear it from Voldemort himself that Tonks had married Lupin. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? Later we hear about the wedding from Tonks and Lupin themselves, however small the mention was. Tonks was happy, Lupin was being a martyr. All was well.
Later, after the showdown at Bill and Fleur's wedding, Lupin shows up at Grimmauld Place to bribe the kids into letting him go with them on their journey, their mission. He explains that he and Tonks are not arguing or having trouble with the relationship, the problem is: She's pregnant. [LE GASP] He continues to reason with them about going with them. Harry doesn't bite, says, "Go home to your family. You should be ashamed of yourself. Btw, stop being a martyr, it gets old three books in."
When Lupin told them she was going to have a baby, I jumped up from my in front of my living room coffee table where I sat and read, and danced around in my living screaming and yelling and receiving funny looks from my brother.
The next time I jumped up and squealed my head off was in the middle of the <i>Potterwatch</i> newscast on the radio as Ron mentions, "Did I tell you? I found out from Bill that Lupin's living with Tonks again. She's gotten quite big actually." Not exact quote, I'm trying to extract the memory in between the moments of me jumping around my living room.
I love the image of PREGNANT!Tonks. It's just... too cute.
The next unexpected Remus/Tonks moment is when Remus bursts into the Shell Cottage and proclaims, "IT'S A BOY, WE'VE NAMED HIM TED AFTER TONKS' FATHER AND I'LL HAVE PICTURES NEXT TIME BUT I'M JUST WAY TOO EXCITED AND I KNOW YOU ONLY SAID TO COME TO YOU IN AN EMERGENCY BUT THIS IS MY MID-LIFE CRISIS, SO SEE YA."
Awesome.
Next moment, Remus shows around the baby picture of Teddy Lupin. SO CUTE. And it's so comically done in between the reunion of Percy and the Weasley family. I think that possibly is the only time Rowling has used Lupin for humor.
Lupin goes and leads off the group to fight. Tonks comes to the Room of Requirement and rushes off to help Lupin---however she asks Aberforth if he's seen him, and Aberforth tells her that he last saw Lupin fighting Dolohov but Harry and his group ran into Dean Thomas and Parvati fighting Dolohov---- my first gut feeling, right there. I was distraught, because there's a 80% chance JKR had a reason for re-using Dolohov.
Lupin was dead, and most likely, Tonks was too.
So it was in no surprise that when the Hogwartians gathered all their dead and injured their was Lupin and Tonks lying peacefully next to Fred.
I bawled. It was so unfair, it was so cruel. How could JKR do it?
I had a feeling though that Lupin and Tonks were the ones that JKR said she killed off two main characters she didn't mean to.
Why Lupin, particularly? Out of all the people who so deserved to LIVE.
My only consolation was that they left a piece of themselves in this world under the image of Teddy Lupin and that they died together, because they could not live apart.
Lesson learned: DO NOT NAME PEOPLE GODFATHER, you doom yourself.
Teddy Lupin: THE NEXT NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM with multi-colored hair.
[goes off to her corner and sobs]

I think that now we can start talking about DH since almost everyone finished the book.
Quote: and I have a feeling that Vivi was holding it up for me so I'll start...
Hehehehe
Vivi's thoughts on DH(Remus/Tonks) *Spoiler ALERT*
-Tonks and Remus getting married!!!! OMG! I was soooooo excited when I read it Happiness at last or so we thought...
-When Lupin goes to the trio and asks them if he could go with them, I sensed something was wrong. When Hermione asked him about Tonks and he says "What about her?" I was like "What's going on Lupin???". Then he said that she was pregnant. I got more excited for them! But he didn't looked so excited. I was getting angry at him, you know, wanting to leave his wife and unborn child behind. I wanted to punch him on the face. I was like "Forget about the whole werewolf thing for a minute and go to them!!!". I think what Harry did was a good thing although a bit too extreme.
-Then Ron tells us that he went back to her and that she was getting big. How much I loved that I was sooo happy for them again.
-When Lupin goes to Bill and Fleur's house and tells them Tonks had a baby boy named Ted. AWWWWWW Again, I was so happy for them.
-The picture of Ted!!! Too adorable!
-I knew everything was going downhill when Tonks appears in the Room of Requirement. I knew something bad was about to happen. This was me "GO BACK TONKS! Something is going to happen!"
-Then, the moment that I was dreading happened:
"As Ginny and Hermione moved closer to the rest of the family, Harry had a clear view of the bodies lying next to Fred: Remus and Tonks, pale and still and peaceful-looking, apparently asleep beneath the dark, enchanted ceiling"
When I read that, I couldn't hold my tears. I cried sooo much... I was in shock, in disbelief.
When Harry goes to the forest and he sees the "spirits" of James, Sirius, Lily and Lupin, I couldn't hold my tears.
This words killed me:
"I'm sorry too" said Lupin. "Sorry I will never know him...but he will know why I died and I hope he will understand. I was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life"
My eyes at this moment were so full of tears that I had to stop reading a few minutes.
I cried during this book so much, it wasn't pretty. Although JKR killed almost everyone (especially Remus and Tonks), I think this is my favorite book from the series. I think this quote from Dumbledore sums up everything:
"Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living, and above all, those who live without love."
Remus and Tonks died but they died loving each other...and that is what's important.
I've been holding all of this thoughts since Saturday.

Yay! Now, I will add my comments!
SPOILERS ALERT! (once again, highlight to read! Great idea, btw, Kit.)
Okay, first of all, I must confess that I thought this was the best book in the entire series and that JK Rowling did brilliantly, with all the plot twists and turns.
The book was bloodly brilliant!
Okay, about Remus and Tonks! I thought and hoped that they would mention more about there wedding, or in more details, but still, the fact that those two are married is such a great thing that I still get giddy about it!
And when Lupin came to the group and was in "a mood", I will call it, my gut feeling and instict was that I thought that Tonks was pregant, and Lupin was worried. And then, to my great delight, she was! I was so excited when I read that Tonks was going to have a baby! It is such a great thing and then I started thinking about what he/she would look like and if he/she would be like Tonks and be able to change his/her hair color and so on. I thought about it so much that I had to reread that page because I contiuned reading, but I didn't take in anything that I did in fact, just read.
And then his name was Ted. That was brilliant....naming there son after her father! And just how they described how the sweet babe looked was even better. And then, when he had a picture, and Lupin was so terribly excited, it was brilliant, absoultly brilliant.
But then, when Lupin was leading them into battle, I got worried.
I didn't think it was right when Lupin explained that Tonks and the baby were fine and he just had to go and fight. He needed to stay with Tonks! But then, a few pages later...
here comes Tonks. And Tonks is so amazing, just having a baby and still ready to go and kick . I love her for that. But when she went to follow Lupin go and fight Dolvoho, that sinking feeling came back and in the bottom of my heart, I knew that they were going to die.
But, what hurt me the most, to be honest, was when Fred Weasley was murdered. Now, I will never forgive JK for that... My eyes get watery even now as I think about it...George...one ear and now twinless...it is just cruel! I have always been such a huge fan of Fred and George and I thought that JK might kill them off in the last book, but even then I wasn't prepared for it...I cried more in that moment than any other.
But then when I saw that Lupin and Tonks indeed also died, I was so depressed. Poor Teddy, just like Harry...parentless, without any memories at all...it was so sad! And what Lupin said also got me teary-eyed...
But you make a good point, Vivi, I think. I am glad too, that Lupin and Tonks died in one another's arms, and they did making the world safe for there son and for something they believed in.
Also, I just want to mention a few facts that I liked about the book overall:
-How JKR twisted and turned Snape's actions was bloody brilliant. And his love for lily...that's just priceless.
-How the Horcuxous and the Deathy Hollows came to play in the book, too. I loved that.
-And there where at least 61 deaths in this book, 50 of them unnamed, but at 11 are, at least. (Dobby, Mad Eye, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Snape, Voldermolt, Colin Creevy, Harry- though he did come back to life in the end- and I can't remember the rest yet.)
So yes, that is my say. R.I.P. Fred Weasley.

Responses to Thoughts-----
highlight to read.
ViviElessar wrote: -Tonks and Remus getting married!!!! OMG! I was soooooo excited when I read it I know!! Y'know, despite the fact that it's in a Voldemort---Death Eater chapter, I wasn't phased at all, I was just SO HAPPY I couldn't contain myself. I expected that they would be together, but married? This made me extremely happy. I even grin when they joked about cubs. [giggles]ViviElessar wrote: I was getting angry at him, you know, wanting to leave his wife and unborn child behind. He was being extremely self-pitying right there and it just gets old. He has absolutely no reason to be grumpy like that. He's married to a beautiful woman, she's bearing his child, he's soon to be father, and he goes off and feels sorry for himself----I'm surprised Tonks hasn't taken his actions personally, but it's Tonks. She loves him no matter what, and that's why she's perfect for him.Vivi wrote: -When Lupin goes to Bill and Fleur's house and tells them Tonks had a baby boy named Ted. (Dobby, Mad Eye, Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Snape, Voldermolt, Colin Creevy, Harry- though he did come back to life in the end- and I can't remember the rest yet.) 61? Hmm. Well, I can name at least 13.
1. Remus J. Lupin. 2. Nymphadora Tonks Lupin. 3. Fred Weasley. 4. Mad-Eye Moody. 5. Charity Burbage. 6. Dobby. 7. Ted Tonks. 8. Severus Snape. 9. Lord Voldemort. 10. Colin Creevey. 11. Rufus Scrimgeour. 12. Harry Potter. 13. Vincent Crabbe. 14. Bathilda Bagshot. 15. Hedwig. (SHE COUNTS) 16. Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail)
I must say----Remus and Tonks' deaths...they affected me the most, because they were just the most fabulous of character in these books and my only ship in the HP-verse. I don't care who else dies, if their lives could be traded, it'd be worth it. [cries]

MORE SPOILERS:
I am ashamed to admit it, but I am not as huge as a Lupin/Tonks fan as you are Kit. But, yes, I totally wished they wouldn't have died. But, how you said you would trade there lives back for anyone, that is what I would do for Fred. It is completely and totally unfair that he had to die...and George is now alone... Sorry, that worked me up quite a bit...
You have Ted under your dead list. He didn't die! I thought he was with Harry and his children at the end of the story, wasn't he? And yes, Hedwig totally counts! Poor, poor Hedwig.
I didn't mean that they actually died in each others arms...though it does seem like that, doesn't it? - I mean that they died together, heroicly...that was sweet, I guess...even though there death's were cruel.
But, on a slightly happier note, how did you like Harry's and Ginny's kids names? lol Albus, Lily, and James, wasn't it? And then Ron and Hermione had Rose and...and oh, I can't remember! lol

---------Spoilers, highlight to read.
I'm not talking about Ted Lupin, I'm talking about Ted Tonks. ... People always get confused when I say Ted Tonks----I adore Ted. [cries] It's just so cruel. He shows up and then he dies.
The consequences of war is horrid. But I will always be thankful for JKR for making Andromeda and Ted canon. THEY EXIST, and they're ANOTHER SHIP that I lovebutaren'ttotallyobsessedabout. I feel so bad for Andromeda, she's widowed, her daughter and her newly wedded husband are killed in battle, and she has an infant to raise. Gah, if she wasn't a Black, strong-willed, loving, and indifferent to the issues raised for wizarding lines, I would say she would go mad. I only wished that Ted was able to live long enough to see his grandson.
I expect she HAD to introduce them if she was going to KILL OFF Remus and Tonks. [begrudgingly so]
I had a post-HP 7 therapy session with my friends and so we were doodling since we're a bit of art freaks especially for our fandom. I drew several images of myself in anticipation for HP and the aftermath of HP, then I drew a picture in memory of Tonks & Lupin and I was extremely proud of it, so I'll post it up once I put on finishing touches.
BTW: Let's not talk about the other points of DH that doesn't directly involve Remus / Tonks. It'd be off-topic.

MORE SPOILERS- (and my apologies...)
Oh, gotcha! I getting it now!
Andromeda, I thought, had a great personaility that reflected Tonks personaility greatly, but not terribly so that they are twins, but more of a mother-daughter relationship. And you know, I never put two and two together and stuff like that...
Poor, poor Andromeda! * to her* Yes, I agree and if that happened to me, I would go mad with rage, sorrow, and who knows how many other emotions! I wonder how long Ted stayed with Harry, though...since Harry was his Godfather...

I don't think Andromeda was like Tonks---in aspect that they were strong women, yes, but not so much any other way. Very mother-daughter. Especially since we only see her in one scene unlike Ted, who we saw in two and he was mentioned another time. Andromeda was only mentioned in an image of an extra pair of hands of help and protection for Tonks, who all mothers are. In the fics that Fernwithy writes, she NAILS Andromeda, so well. Ted, not so much, because he seems very superficial in this book...and of course, then he just dies---but I like Fernwithy's characterization of Andromeda and Ted, but I can live with Ted's canon characterization, since he dies and all. I think if I liked Ted any more, I would bawl at the mention of his murder.
I was EXTREMELY surprised when Rowling wrote that Andromeda resembled Bellatrix, yes they were sisters, but Narcissa didn't resemble Bellatrix at all---it's very unsettling. How closely they resemble each other, but so different in views and morals.
I imagined Teddy never really stayed with Harry since he was already in the care of Andromeda. Harry probably only looked after him, made sure he was well, spent a little time with him on visits and overall, was like a father-figure but not suffocatingly so.
I just realized I never posted my Remus/Tonks fanart for you guys. XD And if I did, I'll repost them because I'm vain and I would like thoughts and opinions on them. I don't have my recent drawings done yet---so be comforted with the fact that there is more to come....I can't let my ship fandom die out, can I? ^^

Why thank you, Turwaithiel. Erm.... I didn't go to any guru of drawing to learn the art of drawing, it's something natural that comes to you, I guess. I've learned little techniques over-time though from friends, art teachers, etc.
There's this HUGE explosion of fanfics from a lot of people after this book so when I find some good fics, I'll definitely post 'em.

I wrote it from the book and actually it is odd he didn't mention Tonks. I think that maybe he was the first one to die, maybe that is why he didn't mention her.
Your drawings are soooooo amazing!!!!! My favorite one is the last one. I'm gonna save it to my computer
Since I finished the book I've been drawing Remus/Tonks related stuff but the drawings are not that good Maybe I'll post them later.

Hmmm, if Lupin did in fact die first, would that mean Tonks was fighting hoping to die alongside him? Or was also caught off guard by his death that one of the DE could strike at her? Either way, it's tragic and heartbreaking. [cries] Why, JKR?! Why?!
Aww, thanks Vivi! It makes my heart flutter. ^^ Oh, my gosh, PLEASE POST YOUR REMUS/TONKS ART. Please!!! I want to see 'em!!

Always happy to receive fanfiction. Can't get enough of 'em. I don't think I would have the talent for writing Tonks / Lupin, they're just too British and wizardy. I would never be able to get the characterization right.

That is so painful and heartbreaking... *sobs* Did anyone watched Dateline on NBC yesterday? Meredith Vieira interviewed J.K. Rowling and she talked about the deaths and other stuff. Some interesting stuff from the interview: *Spoilers* Highlight to read. Quote: Meredith Vieira: So what happened there? Why did he get the reprieve? J.K. Rowling: Well, I swapped him for someone else, and I don't want to say who for the people who haven't-- read. But I-- I made a decision as I went into writing Phoenix that I was going to reprieve Mr. Weasley and I was going to kill someone else. And if you finish the book, I-- I expect you probably know and someone else who is a father. Quote: In book seven, Jo killed off Harry Potter's close friends Lupin and Tonks, and in doing so, left their newborn baby an orphan, just like Harry.
J.K. Rowling: I wanted there to be an echo of what happened to Harry just to show the absolute evil of what Voldemort's doing. The fact that you leave orphans and you leave children who then have to make their way in the world uncared for and unprotected. And-- so that's why I killed the two that, you know, you know about in this book. Which I hated, hated doing because I love them both as characters. Quote: In fact, she says dead Professor Lupin's son Teddy is one of the main reasons she wanted to write the epilogue.
J.K. Rowling: To hear that Teddy Lupin -- Lupin's son is obviously okay. That he has an ongoing relationship with Harry and that he's-- he must be quite happy and he's got a very good-looking girlfriend because I think he's kissing in the epilogue his-- Bill and Fleur's eldest daughter. Meredith Vieira: And why is that important? J.K. Rowling: Because he's been orphaned. And I want-- I want to show that he's okay.
And I want to show that because the world is a better place, he's having a happier-- and then I started to cry. So obviously Teddy Lupin's very important to me. I just-- yeah. I-- having killed both his parents, I really wanted him to be okay.

[sobs] ......... I'm sorry, but..... it's just so heartbreaking.... And so....
JKR revealed that Dolohov killed Lupin and Bellatrix killed Tonks. Okay, I can understand Bellatrix and Tonks---BUT DOLOHOV?! SERIOUSLY?! Can't Lupin be killed by someone more formidable? It's just.... I'm so depressed. Gah. Makes Bellatrix's death SO MUCH MORE SATISFYING. ARGH!!!!! [goes to order three hundred boxes of stress-squeeze balls]
I refuse to believe that Lupin got off'd by someone who got beat by SCHOOLCHILDREN. [fumes]
In other news, I'm working my latest drawing---it's of how I imagine the Hogwartians found Lupin & Tonks... [cries] ....dead... and hope it's satisfactory for you guys---I'm having a difficult time with Lupin's bottom half however. xD
