I think smeag means that we all start out as like the kings/queens of weak cities, and as we rank up, we become the kings/queens of stronger, more fortified cities.

Ive also got an idea. The Lord and lady are at the head of the Knights, and we have 3/4 knights, chosen by them for knightly-esque qualities. These will be company commanders. The rest of the knights are divided and everyone will be part of a knights company. Every so often we have a contest, each company puts forth a champion to compete, and then the Lord and lady declare the winner. Then a Few months after the Commander is picked, the Lord and Lady each choose a commander from any rank in the company. Of course, there may be the occasional knightly party in mind lol
As for ranks I have some Ideas as well
Knight (starting Rank)
Knight errant
Veteran Knight
Companion
Company Banner Bearer (one at one time)
Company Commander

I think that is quite clever! What about adding Queen's Champion to one of the higher rankings? It's like, the Queen's personal commander, and it is usually male...

Yes, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Oooh, Idea! What about that being the honourific of the champion who wins the the contest, and until the next contest, he/she is known as Queens champion, then, if they are not selected or dont win the contest, they return to their current rank. Or whatever. I dunno, whatever is approved by the majority of my fellow knights.

Okay... how exactly do we get higher ranks? Like... if one started at the bottom... how would they be able to work their way up in rank?

Well, the system That I thought of would use some form of contest, such as graphics maybe, a treasure hunt, Poetry writing contests etc to determine a winner and therefore new ranks. What these contests would be, if this rank system was used, would have to be thought up by the Company Commanders and The Lord/Lady of the society.Thats how Id envision it, but Id be open to sugesstions on contests and such if anyone has them.
