Anaryan mounted Eldecar, she urged him into a gallop. She had to keep him on a tight rein to keep him from passing the others. They traveled swiftly, and scenery rushed by.

Kanninwë was riding with her troops the whole day.On sunset they reached Chestwood forest.Several kilometers south direction the South and the East roads were crossing.
"We shall rest here tonight."said she."Set a camp here.Tomorrow early morning we ride east-to Amon Sul."
After the camp was ready and everyone were resting in their tents,Kanninwë still stood outside looking at the stars.She walked away from the camp-she wanted to be alone for a while and to think.Kanninwë looked north.She felt a that a storm was coming-storm ready to crush the Men to the ground.

Dagnir and his troops , after 3 days riding were 30 miles from the Ettenmoors when they came across a body of men marching the other way.
By their insignia he identified them as members of the Second East Battalion. He stopped one of the soldiers, a sergeant and asked him" why are you moving this way? The enemy is that way" The soldier saluted and replied " Sir, our general Brandil Ironshield ordered us to. The orcs gathered at the Ettenmoors, and our battalion engaged them in combat. We were overcome, despite slaying 3 or 4 times our number of orcs and The 3rd eastern battalion is helping the defense of Rivendell,so we were alone. I have with me the best part of 7 companies."
"What happened to the 1st,2nd and 3rd companies sergeant?" asked Dagnir
"Sir, our General made a fighting retreat and ordered that we take our men west, to help the fight else where. I sent a horseman to ascertain the situation, and he reports that all three companies are dead to the last and he saw the generals banner on the field, with Ironshield fallen by it" The sergeants eyes began to tear up for his beloved general.
"Soldier, there will be a time for tears later on, but not now. Is there any senior officers left in any of the companies left?" asked Dagnir. The sergeant shook his head and then dagnir said "Very well, you are the senior officer now, my instruction is that you lead the rest of these troops to Amon Sul, there you will find General Kanninwe.You will attach your forces to hers and await the assault. Is that understood" The sergeant replied "Yes sir!" and began to hurry his men along.
Then in the distance, a horde of orcs could be seen advancing along the Road.
Dagnir saw this, took out his whetstone and sharpened his axe blade, and took his helm and placed it on his head. His company all advanced on foot along the road, weapons ready till the orc host was within half a mile. weapons were drawn and shield were readied. Dagnir stood head of the host. His axe Heartrender would send some orcs to their dark dooms tonight and it sent a thrill through his body. "Remember, we are buying time for the rest of the companies to get to Amon Sul, fight hard and we will slowly retreat" His company roared fierce, ready for the ensuing fight. He looked at his sergeant Anaryan, and said to her " Fight well, and fight hard..... "

On the next day by sunset the gates of Amon Sul opened.Kanninwë and her forces entered the fortress.
"General!Welcome back!"saluted Commander Magdil,leader of the 4th Eastern Batallion.
"Commander"said Kanninwë."Where is General Brogmar?"
"He and his battalion left to Rivendell,General.The Elves needed help.He left short after you,3 days ago."
"I see"said Kanninwë."Any news from Brandil?"
Kanninwë saw how how Magdil's face changed.
"What happened,Magdil?Speak!!"
"He has fallen,General.The scouts reported that there was a battle at the Entmoors.The Orcs were outnumbered.We don't know are there any survivers."
Kanninwë closed her eyes and bowed her head.
In this moment one of the sentries called.
"General!General,come,quick."
Kanninwë ran to the wall.She saw 7 companies marching to the fortress.
"Open the gates"ordered she.
Kanninwë met the companies at the entry.She recognized the mark of the Second Eastern Battalion.
"General!"said one of the soldiers."General,I'm Maetdir,from the Second Battalion.We bring news from the front."
"Come soldier and tell me everything."
Kanninwë,Magdil adn Maetdir entered the West citadel of Amon Sul.There was a huge table in the center of it.Kanninwë took one of the maps and spread out the scroll.
"Now,soldier tell me what happened."
Maetdir told Kanninwë all he knew:how General Brandil ordered him and his companies to leave,how they learned about Brandil's death,how they met Captain Dagnir and his orders..
"So you are a captain,Maetdir.Dagnir has made a wise decision."Kainnwë smiled."But did I understood you right,Captain?You said that Captain Dagnir was wait for an Orc horde when you and your companies lest?"
"Yes,General.He ordered we to come here and join you."
"So he's fighting the Orcs alone?"
"I'm afraid so?"
"What shall we do,General?"asked Magdil.
Kanninwë didn't answer.
"General?"

Dagnir laughed loudly. The first orc wave had been repulsed easily, with no losses. His axe alone had taken 50 orc lives. "Well men, we may stop this invaion all by ourselves eh!" he said and all men laughed " Still, we should be going to Amon Sul. Me, Anaryan and my guards will make the rearguard. Move out!" shouted Dagnir. The rear ranks began to retreat facing the enemy who had now arrived, and moved back foot by foot. An Orc captain walked forward, huge and broad. he raised his sword and said "which of you leads?" in his brutal tone.
"I lead Orc, I am Dagnir Angacam and my friend here is Heartrender" he said holding up his axe. The orc flinched from the sight of the blade, but charcged forward. Him and Dagnir Traded 3 blows and then the orc stopped. Heartrender had seperated his head from his body. "ARGHHHH!!" cried Dagnir in a thunderous voice. The veins on his neck bulged out, his eyes lit like fire and he ran forward into the orcs. He hacked and slahed, smashing shields and bones, the rest of his guards laid on.Somewhere Heartrender got stuck in a shield and so Dagnir started to use his fists, smashing bones and breaking necks with his bare hands. IN the face of such primal ferocity the orcs fled, cowed.
The berserker fury abated and Dagnir returnd to the mortal plane. He took heartrender from the shield where it lay, and next to an orc body he saw Aldric elenseron, one of his guardsman. He felt a sense of mourning for his fallen comrade, a brother to him. He hoisted his friends body onto his back and picked up his sword and shouted "lets move! Make it back to Amon Sul men!!!" he shouted as the whole company began to march at full pace back to that fortress to await on the onset.

"General?"asked Magdil once again.
The doors of the citadel opened.
"General!"in the citadel ran a scout."I bring bad news from the eastern borders,my lady!The Hillsmen have joined the Lord of Carn Dum.They know that we have forces outside the fortress.They sent out wolfriders."
"Wolfriders?!"Kanninwë stood up."How many?"
"Around hundred,my lady"
"Hundred?!"
"What are your orders general?"asked Magdil.
"Prepare the horsemen!We ride out tonight to battle!I'll take 1st,2nd and 3rd companies with me.Magdil take 1st and 2nd companies from your battalion.Maetdir,I leave the command of the fortress to you while we are gone."
While they were preparing their self to leave ,Magdil asked Kanninwë.
"Are you sure my lady?"asked he.
"They will try to drive Dagnir and his men into a thight corner,Magdil.We can't leave them to die!Would you do something different,my friend?"
"No,Kanninwë."Magdil smiled.
When the troops were ready,Kanninwë turned to Maetdir.
"Maetdir,prepare the archers.We will try to fight their road to safety!"then she turned to the soldiers."We ride to help our friends,are you with me?"
Kanninwë heard a confirming cry.Then she turned,the gates of Amon Sul opened.
"Ride as fast as you can"whispered she to Kelegwath.

As Dagnir ran with aldric on his back, he heard a sound faintly.
Wolves. Many wolves. Instinctively he knew something bad was happening.
"Form up square first company! Spears first rank axes behind, archers to the centre! MOVE MOVE!" shouted dagnir.
One of the sergeants came to him and said " captain, why are we stopping? we must retreat!" to which dagnir replied
"trooper, there are wolves out there, and with them riders. IN loose formation we will be butchered by them. Here we have a chance of fighting hem off. Get in line and trust in your blade at th moment of action." the trooper bowed and assumed his place in the line. Dagnir took out heartrender and stood in the second row with all the axemen.
To await the enemy who would be coming....

Venessiel rode between many other soldiers and followed Kanninwe. "Now, this is the day, this is our time, Basalt.", she tried to encourage herself and her mare. One of the soldiers next to her turned around and asked: "Such a young woman, almost a girl, rides to war? Rides to death? What or who forced you to fight with us, my lady?" Venessiel smiled haltily and shook her head. "It is my free will, to follow Kanninwe, it is my free will to fight, to kill and to ride to war. You aren't older than me, are you? Why do you think I was forced if you are here voluntarily, my lord?", she asked back.
Before the young soldier could answer, they heard a scream from the ride side and three wolf-riders jumped out of some bushes.
"Attack! We're under attack", she screamed, before she drew her sword and got ready to fight.
"My name is Venessiel", she said as she turned to the young soldier again. "I hope we will meet again." With these words she forced her mare into a galopp and rode towards the wolf-riders.

"Yes my lady!1st and 2nd companies from 4th Battalion!Follow me!"and he raised high his sword.The Arnor army divided in two.Magdil took his companies and Kanninwë led the horsemen from 1st Eastern battalion.She pulled out her sword.
"Gather to me!Form the lines."called she.She heard wolf howl ahead and then she saw the wolf horde riding towards them
"Run them to the ground!CHAAAAARGE!"

Venessiel was one of the first to reach the wolfriders. She swung her sword with all the power she could effort and left a deep injury on the riders chest. For one moment she lost her balance, but Basalt became slower until she was safe again. The other riders had overtaken her now, so she thought the wolf-riders were dead.But then she heard a growl behind her back.
When she turned around she saw the wolf-rider she had injured riding up to her. She reversed (?) her mare as fast as she could and drew her sword again. The wolf-rider had now almost reached her. She couldn't think of any special attack, so she just banged her sword into the riders body. She hit his throat and he hit her arm, before he collapsed and the wolf ran away

Dagnir saw them by the light of his torch. He saw on one flank, what looked like a good 30 wolfriders and on another,several hundred goblins.
He thought how to defeat this horde, and had a brainwave.
"Archers, commence fire on the wolfriders, aim for the mounts, swords , you are with me, attack the orcs, spears and axes attack the wolves as well. Charge!"shouted dagnir, leading the swordsmen against the orcs. IN the narrow space of the road, the orcs could not bring their numbers to bear on the enemy and were cut down in th edozens. Several swordsmen fell to crooked blades, and Dagnirs guards grew weary.
The spears and axemen had taken minimal casualties, and had dispatched the wolfriders, and now were aiding their friends. The orcs fled again, and the road was piled with their bodies.
"Take the dead from our side with you,we leave no such warriors for the carrion birds" said Dagnir.
He heard a vliant horn in th edistance and knew it to be Arnorian. "Quickly! Our friends require our aid!" he shouted as his company continued the march with all possible speed.

Kanninwë and her forces cut into the horde of the wolf-riders.Many Orcs were slained by her hand.Suddenly Kanninwë heard a voice behind her.
"Ha!I see that the men let their women to go into battle!Hahahaha!How contemptible!"laughed a huge Orc.
Kanninwë didn't reacted.She looked calm at the Orc.Then she rode towards him and tried to cut off his head but the wolf-rider blocked her.
"One thing I learned in the army"said she."Always have a second sword,while you are riding."And Kanninwë pulled her reserve sword and cut the Orc's hand.Then she stabbed the wolf.She heard the evil grin of the Orc once more before he dies.
"The Men race will fall!"

Lorwen charged forward with the rest of the Battalion. She stabbed one rider in the neck, and did the same to his wolf. She then wheeled her horse around to face another. Off to her left she saw the young girl, Venessiel, kill one also. Now facing another wolf rider, she she lopped off his head and left the wolf, as int ran, yelping.

The battle was short.Obviously the wolf-riders have divided in two groups.Kanninwë unmounted her horse.
"How many have we lost?"asked she.
"Not many my lady."said one of the soldiers.
"That's good"said she."Mount the wounded on horses and go back to the fortress.I'll take Lorwen and Venessel with me.We are going to scout what's happening to Magdil and Dagnir."

They ran along the road, and heard horses snorting. An Arnorian horseman was there, with 2 companies
"Captain Dagnir?" he asked
"Aye thats me , who are you?" said Dagnir
"Captain magdil, under the command of General Kanninwe. We were sent to look for you captain"
"Well we are found, let us return swifly to Amon Sul, the general may need us" said dagnir
"agreed," said Magdil.
As they started to move towards Amon sul via the road, they saw 3 Horses and their riders.
Arnorien cavalry troopers....

"We found them"said she to Lorwen and Venessel.
When they met,Kanninwë greeted:
"Captain Dagnir,I salute you"she bowed her head."Magdil!You've done your work well!Gentelmen I suggest to go back to Amon Sul as fast as we can!"
All agreed.
