Ok..these days, unexplainable why, I watched many Disney's movies.(I'm talking about the animations :P..Yeah..it seems that I still LOVE the old fashioned 2D animation!:):):):) Lol,I'm weird,I know :P) Anyway, while I was browsing the net I saw that many of those films have a sequel.First I though!:"Cool!I always wandered as a kid how this story continues!I wondered what's happening to all of those fairy characters!":bounce: I grew up with those movies and I liked them a lot so I decided to have a look. But to be honest I wasn't very charmed from that what I saw :confused2:...For example today I watched "Pocahontas 2".
"Pocahontas" was one of my most beloved stories when I was child.Even now I still think that the movie is very edifying. It shows to the kids how important the connection between the human and the nature is and that we have to be tolerant to each other.Besides the love story in the movie is sweet too.Ooops,I wander from the subject!
Anyway I was talking for the sequel. The plot is very simple(sorry if someone is about to watch it-if you don't want, don't read it.I only use it as example ;))-the bad guy from the first part survives and tries to destroy Pocahontas and her people. He cheats the king and "kills" John Smith(He's Pocahontas' love remember?:P)So Pocahontas decides to save her people and travels to London. On her way she meets another handsome guy-he's name is again John :annoyed2:.He helps her to talk with the king but the bad guy(of course) messes the things up and the girl is sent in the jail for a while..And guess who saves her?-John Smith(SURPRISE!!!)And like all stories this one has a happy end..or not?I was very surprised how the things turned out-it wasn't the typical Disney style(I don't say that the change is something bad..just..first I'll finish the sentence then you'll see what I mean ;)).While I was expecting to see one "And Pocahontas and John Smith lived happily ever after..." I saw that the charming main charry from the first film was turned to a selfish, pompous freak, who prefers to sail with his ship, and Pocahontas wants to stay with the other guy-John.Well I was shocked to be honest. The sweet love story from the first movie was turned to a soap opera..I was like "Gosh,is this Disney?"
I'm not saying that all of the sequels are disaster. No!But in the most movies I saw the same plot from the original one-only the bad guys were new!So..have you seen sequels of Disney movies and do you like them?

Well first off, I have to say, I haven't seen Pocahontas 2, but it did actually happen that she never lived happily ever after with John Smith, but that she married another man when she went to London. I have no idea if John Smith ever turned up in her life when she went to London, it may even be true he was selfish, or it could just be Disney changing the story around. Of course the really unhappy ending would have been if they told you about the fact she didn't live long, as she died of small pox.

I have only ever seens 3 Disney sequels - Beauty and the Beast and the 2 Lion King's.

The Beauty and the Beast and the first Lion King sequel, actually weren't bad, and the fact they were made within a couple of years of the prequel being released, I don't think there was anything wrong with making a sequel. The third Lion King, however was a nightmare. Not even Timon and Pumba could save it.

As for the other Disney sequels, I see no point for their existance. They are made purely for the money, are released straight to video/DVD so it is cheaper, but so that people have to buy it or rent it to watch it. People expect to learn more about what happened to their favourite characters, but are usually disappointed as the stories are manufactured quickly and not with the same thought behind them as the prequels.

Always be wary of a Disney sequel that goes straight to DVD.

Luckily the new 2D department at Disney will start producing some original animated films for us all to enjoy. :-)

I read the real story about Pocahontas few years after I saw the movie and I agree that it's better when the movie ended so..(Disney usually changes many things from the real stories...)
My point is that the "character" John Smith in this movie was very different form the character in the first movie. That was what surprised me.Because in "Pocahontas" the love story seemed to be so real and now it was crushed!I found that rather untypical for Disney...

I enjoyed the Lion King first sequel too!It was really nice and relaxing! :) Beauty and the Beast has a sequel?:blink:I didn't knew that..

I've never been impressed with Disney's originality. They've always taken folk stories and real life stories and put stupid twists on them. Then make a sequeal... or two... or perhaps three. :P

Of course, the classics I grew up with are still great. I love the 2D too, and I hate how that's being used less and less. :( And those shows that are 2D are less artistic.

Though actually, historical Pocahontas did move to England and marry John Rolfe. ;)

^Dang, Taur, you beat me to it. :P

My general experience with Disney sequels is that they are fluffy little bits of story involving the same characters, a fairly predictable plot, and (generally) they are a good deal "tamer" and cheesier than the original film. (This not including The Return of Jafar and Lion King 2, both of which my mother hates because they are so dark.)

Generally Disney sequels make me cringe. They really do. The only ones I can honestly say I enjoyed were the Little Mermaid sequel (and I haven't seen that for years - I don't know if I'd like it now) and Lion King 2. Lion King 1 1/2 was over the top - I don't mind Timon and Pumba, but that was T & P overload. I honestly think Cinderella 2 was a nightmare, and Beauty and the Beast 2 wasn't much better. Those two in particular were such good movies by themselves, why did they have to ruin them by making sequels?

And as for Pocahontas...gah. I really didn't like the lack of accuracy, even for Disney, in the original Pocahontas, and the second one pretty much ranks up there with BatB 2 and Cinderella 2.

But what do you guys think of the Aladdin sequels in general? The original movie is the best one, IMO, but I've only ever seen bits of King of Thieves and the Return of Jafar. King of Thieves didn't seem too bad.

I LOVED King of Thieves when I was little - still do, especially now that I know John Rhys-Davies is the voice of Aladdin's dad. :) The original is still the best though. (Return of Jafar scared me when I was little and gives me a headache now, for some reason...)

(And to add one final comment, I love Timon & Pumbaa so I liked Lion King 1 1/2. But then, I'm easily amused. :P)

^Hehe,I like the King of the Thieves a lot too :).The Return of Jafar wasn't that bad too(at least I think so)

I don't know was it good idea,Disney to make sequels of the most movies(esp. the romantic one) .It seems that,as JF said, the most of them are pointless-made just for earning money and after watching the film, many fans are disappointed. At least I am....

It's a pity that now Disney is doing only bad sequels and CGI films(pixar).I liked Pixars first movies(Toy Story,Bugs)but now there reproducing like rabbits and they're pointless.Come on, a rat that cooks?Gross :yuck:
Back to Disney sequels, yeah ,they're bad,the only ones that i liked is Lion King 2 and the Aladdin trilogy. The others, :yuck: :wary:

^ I know! They need to be doing more 2D classics! They haven't done anything impressive in the last couple of years. (Well, PotC doesn't really count. It's not animated. :P)

Mulan 2 and Balto 2 were really disappointing, and those are the ones I remember. The rest I saw when I was a lot younger, and the only thing I really remember about them is that they weren't as good as the originals. :)

Although I liked Lion King 2 as well, and also Lion King 1 1/2. What can I say? I love Timon and Pumbaa.

Toy Story 2 was also good.

I have to agree with you there, Toy Story 2 was quite good. But I don't really consider it a Disney classic 'cause it's Pixar.

And really, I've quite enjoyed all Pixar movies. I think they're creative and funny and well done for the most part, I hope they keep doing them.

I have to agree. I love all the old Disney classics form when I was little, btu their sequels made so many years later after the death of Walt Disney made me cringe. They're completely horrible. In fact, Disney has gone way down the drain since the classic films, it's lowest point being it's poor attempts at sequels.

Lol. W00t for Pixar's movies, but I really haven't enjoyed a lot of Disney's ones. The only sequels of Disney's that I enjoyed were The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Thieves. Both of those were 'pretty' good, but certainly better than all of the other sequels, including The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.

But I like Pixar movies. :D

Ahh, yes, Disney. A wonderful company. :D

Their sequels, not so much.

I didn't like Pocahontas 2 whatsoever. I know it was historically based (some parts, at least), but it was depressing in a way. :(

I don't really watch the sequels of Disney movies because I know they will be in some way messed up.. either that or I don't remember the sequel because I was too young when I watched it (i.e. Simba's Pride, Return of Jafar... etc.)

Even though it wasn't animated, Princess Diaries 2 was really messed up too. :yuck:

I really love Disney's classics!I don't like the most of sequels much.

But I have to agree that the plot of the most of the stories in Disney's classics is changed...Like in "The Little Mermaid" movie-we all have read Andersen's fairy tale and we know how actually the story ends...

Hmm...well, I never saw the second Pocahontas movie, but it sounds like the main problem is that it was inconsistent witht he first. I mean, there wasn't even a John Smith/Pocahontas relationship in real life. The first story was almost purely legend, which made an excellent movie. But then to suddenly go to real, hard-facts, soap opera-y life ruins the effect the first one had. I'm all for realistic stories, but I love legends as well, so please choose one or the other and stop the confusion. :P
