Ha, i was looking everywhere for my fantasy encylopedia and my Bulfinch's Mythology, and i couldn't find them, and now i see that they are sitting on the desk right in front of me. *slaps self*
lets see.... Valkyries: "We can see elements of fairy folk in beings like the Scandanavian Valkyrie who gather the slain from the battlefields."
"In Norse mythology, the Valkyrie are the female beings who carry away the souls of the warriors slain in battlte. Their name derives from the Old Norse valr 'battlefield-corpse' and kjosa 'to choose[/i]. This implacable sisterhood of nine women ride through the air over battlefields to bring back those warriors most fit to enter the warrior's paradise of Valhalla. They were close to Odin and were sometimes called Odins meyar(Odin's maidens) or Oskmeyjar(Odin's wish fulfillers). The numbers of Valkyrie vary according to sucessive layers of their myth: some 36 are attested of whom 13 are names maidens serve the einherjar(the warriors of Valhalla):
Hrist(Shaker)
Mise(Cloud)
Skeggjold(Axe-Age)
Hildr(Battle)
Thrudr(Power-Woman)
Hlkokk(Battle-Noise)
Herfjotur(Army-Fetter)
Goll(Battle-Cry)
Geirolul(Spear-Charher)
Randgridr(Shield-Destroyer)
Radgridr(Bossy)
Reginlefir(God's Daughter)
In later myths, they also interfere with the course of battles and determine the outcome. Some fall in love with mortals, like the Valkyrie Sigfrida(Inciter to Battle) who is better by the name Brynhilde(or Brunhilde). In Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle operas, which draw upon the Volsung saga and less upon the early mythological texts, she appears as the daughter of Erda and Wotan expelled from Valhalla."
Wow *wipes brow* lots of work. Sorry for any mispellings, I was just trying to write it all down...
and then Kirin:
"Kirin is the Japanese version of the oriental Unicorn. Described as a multi-coloured creature with a single horn protruding from its forehead, it is considered to be an agens of the gods, dispensing goodness and justice to those who deserve it and punishing in an appropriate fashion those who do evil deeds."
Ki-Lin is the Chinese Unicorn having a deer's body, ox's tail, horse's hooves and a single horn.

I think the answer is Trolls. The golden eye is the sun, and trolls turn to stone in the sun.

Eru, could you leave the old riddles up? I didnt get a chance to read the Troll one.
I think the new one is Kelpie. But, I'm probably wrong.
