The woman was old, her face harsh and craggy as the highlands she lived on. Long hair, pure white, cascaded past her shoulders and covered her bent head. She was silent as she chose one final rock to top the cairn. Her hands trembled, and a single tear landed upon the stone she held.
...their women are the most beautiful of all the barbarians' I have seen thus far; with hair as dark as a raven's wing or the same colour and brightness as copper. However, even the women will fight (fiercely as the men, we found), as barbaric as it may seem...
She stood, uprooting her staff and raising it high. A gust grew, gathering power until it was a violent storm. Raven feathers danced in the wind, tethered to the rod by strips of leather. Still she stood, starting a wail of lament as lightning arced across the sky and rain spattered the ground. The whole island was mourning with her...mourning for a lost lord.
We found three islands, the largest roughly seventy five miles from our target and twenty five miles long. Thus we set up camp, constructing a rude fort... We sent the legion ashore, finding some signs of civilization amongst a vast pine forest; razing several villages, we managed to capture a few men...we met resistance, of course, but there were so few that we overwhelmed them utterly... Amongst the pine forests we did finally meet an army of some two thousand men strong; but there were probably near one thousand women amongst them as well. Even as we moved to engage them a most foul fog rose, and a storm did blow as well. If it had not been for the warlock, we may have been completely defeated. As it was, I barely escaped with my guardsmen. Zilom did find the source of the elements, for when he traveled out of body he found a group of most primitive and barbaric mages led by an old hag. With my men I did manage to disrupt their magic and even strike one down, but the others grew thorns and such to hinder our progress until they could escape. We left for the ships, and having only enough to man one, we departed for our fort. I know you will be displeased with our progress, but if you give me another legion I will destroy these cunning barbarians...
The old woman lowered her arms slowly. The storm had dwindled into a slight breeze, leaving the ground muddy and pools of water here and there. These she avoided, finding the driest places to step. Eventually she reached the edge of the clearing, where a group awaited her. For the first time since the burial ceremony had begun she spoke. "Mllclae, Wistholm, Chalhm. From all three clans you have come. It is time for three to become one, for our world is changing. A new lord must be found, or we will have to leave this island forever..."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the first real roleplay I've started, so forgive me if I mess it up.
Rules-
1: No godmodding/ godmodeing. No controlling other characters or making your own character all-powerful.
2: Literate posts are a must. If you don't know what literate means you probably won't be in this roleplay. Please write at least a paragraph, and please wait until two other people have posted before your next post. (This may change if too few people join) Correct spelling is highly encouraged (note that there is spellcheck), as is correct grammar.
3: Be creative. Although I've already made maps, some creativity is welcome as long as it doesn't interfere with what I've thought up. I'll try to let you know if you're being a little "too creative".
There are three main character classes at this point:
Bards are the loremasters of Llemnach, serving as judges and the lord's counselors. They can create illusions (as well as dull or deceive the senses in other ways) by singing and/or playing the harp. Very rarely is more than one bard within each clan.
Druids are connected to the island in a powerful way; they can summon powerful storms, manipulate plant life, and even see through the eyes of the island's animals, depending on their specialty. They also are wise in nature lore, such as the use of herbs. As of now their power is broken, since the lord has died. This, of course, leaves the island vulnerable. Occasionally there is more than one druid present in each clan.
Clans Mllclae and Wistholm are arguably tougher than clan Chalhm; they must be since the former mentioned clansmen live in the highlands of Llemnach. However, while the highlanders are great hunters and snow-men, the Chalhm clansmen are the island's shipbuilders and iron-smiths.
At some point I'll edit this post and put the map up, but for now feel free to ask to join.
Characters:
Chelina (Old Man)
Age: 87
Clan: Born of clan Chalhm
Profession: Bard/Druid
Brief History: At the age of 13 Chelina became a bardic apprentice; her druidic powers were hidden until she was 21, only a few years before the lead druid died. Since her training was incomplete, she was passed over and a younger druid was selected to take his place. When she completed her bardic apprenticeship, however, she was selected as the lead bard. As the lead druid died during the battle with the foreigners, she has temporarily taken his position, until she decides between his four apprentices. She currently resides in the bardic house at the point where the three clan boundaries meet.
Darrock (Eruraina Aniarure)
Age: 22
Clan: Wistholm
Occupation: hunter/bard(if that's alright)
Appearance: 6'2", fit, grey eyes, brown shaggy hair, weathered features.
Attire: rough worn clothing
Brief history:
He is an only child, and his mother was a seamstress, his father a hunter. His father passed down the knowledge of tracking and hunting. At age 15 he became a bard's apprentice, and has just finished his apprenticeship.
Name: Kiordan (Elenya)
Age: 44
Gender: Male
Clan: Mllclae
Profession: Bard
Appearance: Tall and well-built. He has a slight stoop in his shoulders from bending over his harp. Shoulder-length black hair, usually tied back out of his face, dark blue eyes. He has a blunt, open face.
History: Kiordan, the son of the Mllclae bard, began learning from his father when he was young. By the time he was in his teens, he could play the harp, sing, and create visual illusions. After his father died a few years later, Kiordan became the clan bard. He's skilled at creating sight and sound illusions, dulling senses, and affecting emotions to some degree.
Name: Eoran (pronounced YOE-ran) (The Nightingale)
Age: 19
Occupation: apprentice shipbuilder
Clan: Chalhm.
Appearance: shaggy black hair, grey eyes. Average height, slender.
Brief history: is an orphan, his parents died when he was young. He was raised by the man who he is now apprenticed to. He spends his spare time learning how to weild a sword.

I flew all the way from Texas to New England to spend two weeks with miss Nienor. 5 of those days were to survive on an uninhabited island. Booyah.

I'd be interested in joining as a bard! Just a note, though, I probably wouldn't be able to post very often, but I'd try to get on when I could!

Hmm--it looks interesting, Old Man.
I'm guessing that the italicized bit is from the antagonist, right?

I'm considering joining, but, do you have any sort of restrictions on what sort of breed your character can be, or do they have to be human?

All three of you are welcome to join. The parts in italics are excerpts from a letter recently sent by the commander of the invaders. And yes, at this point you have to make your character human. The Llemnachians currently have no contact with the outside world, so if you were to control a character from another race you wouldn't really have anything to do. Actually, the elves could possibly discover the island...as soon as I get the map up, I'll let you know if that'll work.

Hm... barbarians? are they like... Barbarian Barbarians from way back in real history? Or is that what they're being called?
And how about a warrior, or ranger... or knight... for occupation?

The people of Llemnach are quite similar to the Scots; although they may be called barbarians, they're just considered primitive and fierce by their attackers. More will be revealed as the roleplay progresses. There aren't really any warriors, since the clans never fight amongst themselves, and this is the first time they've encountered enemies. Also, they have no horses or iron tools. Actually, you might say all the people of Llemnach are warriors; the Wistholm and Mllclae clansmen are quite devastating with their hunting bows, the Chalhm clan has a great many woodcutting axes, and the women are just as likely to fight as the men. They lack nothing courage-wise, and are extremely tough.
So basically there are farmers, hunters, shipwrights, fishermen, blacksmiths...and, of course, 3 bards and 4 druids. Surely that's not too little variety..? Anyway, you're all welcome to join and post your characters. I'll try to get the map up this week. Things have been rather hectic, so I apologize for the slow start.

I think I'll join... I love RPing, but never get into an RP much.
I will put my bio up later, though I will probably be a clansman/woman/child

Hey Elenya, is it possible that Darrock was Kiordan's apprentice? I think that would be interesting...
