Yay, for meticulous research Larael, that's true dedication!
Wohoo for Depp, Rickman, Burton and Bonham-Carter - she's in it too?? It's getting better and better.. I'm building an enthusiasm that is so high it can never be fulfilled, I'm afraid!! But yay anyway!!

Hmm... even though it is off-topic and a late-topic, I'd just want to mention that I'm a Richard Harris-as-Dumbledore lover too... but that's just like everyone else.. I just think they made Michael Gambon look too much like Santa Clause... ohh and I also have a few comments on the way he portrays Dumbledore... but this is not the place to tell really...

I did read through the pages I missed and i can see you've been on a 'favorite Alan Rickman movie-list'. Perhaps I'll add to it some day if the thread needs a kickstart again... :-)

I too have seen the trailer, huzzah!

I have to say though, I'm wondering how they made him so young for the first few scenes we saw with him. :P It was a very glowy scene though, so maybe that's why. :teehee:

And then later on he's old and pockmarked and everything. Not the suave AR we know. :P

Well to but it briefly, this is a musical, and it's going to be to gory, but it's also going to be funny as well.

It's a Tim Burton film, which also means it's going to be wacky, weird and eccentric like him. Add to that his weird, wacky and eccentric fellow artisan Johnny Depp, and you are looking at a weird, wacky and eccentric film.

In short. This film will be different. And that's why I like them both when they are together (and apart).

Basically the story from the trailer seems to suggest that Johnny Depp's character Benjamin Barker, was happily married to a beautiful wife and they had a beautiful baby daughter. Then along comes Judge Turpin, presumably jealous of Benjamin, and in love with the wife. He has him arrested and Benjamin spends 15 years in prison, and he expects to find a wife and daughter waiting for him. The wife appears to be dead (it is hinted that Judge Turpin was to blame for this). Helena Bonham Carter, plays Mrs, Lovett a baker, and she knows about Benjamin and what happened to him. When Benjamin comes out, he wants revenge on those who wronged him, and the rich. So he calls himself Sweeney Todd and sets up a barbers shop, where he kills men, sends them down a shaft, into the basement which ajoins Mrs. Lovett's pie shop... you can tell where this is going can't you. ;) Of course another reason for this, is that the Judge has Benjamin/Sweeney's daughter.

But that's just my interpretation from the trailer. I may be wrong. And of course with it being a musical, there were lots of strange surreal moments in it, which I can't explain, and will probably be explained in the film.

So there you go. :D

Yes, indeed. :D

I reckon the rating will be a 12 or a 15. I think it would be pretty unusual if it had swearing in it, as Sleepy Hollow didn't and it set around the same time, perhaps a bit later, and I don't know if Tim Burton/Johnny Depp go for swearing in their films. So I''m hoping it's just gore. I can't see there being any adult situations either, perhaps just suggestions and glimpses.

Yes, I'm a Brit. :kick:

Well a 15 in the second highest rating we have, and a PG-13 (sorry, I keep forgetting they did away with the 12 certificate! :duh: I'm so old. :P) is the third highest, so you should be able to work it out against your countries ratings. :-)

That's so interesting that you have a 12 and a 15 rating in Britain. (Or is the 12 now a 13? *confused*) We simply have G, PG, PG-13 and R. Sometimes I think more distinction between the many PG-13' s would be nice. The content can really vary within that rating.

Anyway, that was completely off topic--

That movie you were talking about sounds so interesting! A musical about a murderer. Only Tim Burton could pull it off. :P What's the name of it again?

^Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street :)

Hmm.. been checking around a few sites for an American rating just so all of you know. Seems like it's going to be rated R for "bloody graphic violence". Still not sure if I'm going to go. Gore and blood is definitely not for me.. yet somehow I made it through watching The Patriot where people get their heads blown off by cannonballs. :P

"Bloody graphic violence"? Ouch, I can't stand gross stuff. :P I'm really comofrtable with LotR-level violence...which makes people laugh, since there is virtually no gore in LotR. :teehee:

It'll still be interesting to hear about though. :) I'd really like to hear the music. And I visited the main thread in the Movies section. Yes, the five most important words to me were "Phantom of the Opera Paris". I'd like to see how it looks, too!

Well I believe an R is the equivalent of our 18, and I really can't see it being an 18. If it is, I'm scuppered.

But seriously peeps, it's only like water, mixed with paste, mixed with red ink or something... and if Johnny Depp slashes someone's throat and get's splattered with blood and says something like "that went well", you can't possibly be upset by it! Because a) it's not real b) it's Johnny Depp and c) it's meant to entertain you, not make you throw up.

But that could just be me and my warped entertaining taste. :p
