Oo, 'ello there! Welcome to the club.

Question - How do all of you feel about the idea of someone who is say, thirteen, "going out" with someone who is seventeen? [Not me!] Personally, I don't like that idea. Thirteen is still much to young to be going out with anyone, much less someone who's 4 years older and has a much higher maturity level.

Id say Id agree there on that score, 13 is a bit young, but then for a 17 years old to ask them out, is a bit cradle snatchy to my mind.
And as for someone else as said about guys being ostracized for not being "manly", (was either elllie or JF) I think that its just a bit unfair. I mean, I wont want to wear a skirt soon or anything, but "traditional" female disciplines such as cooking (treading carefully here) cleaning, dancing etc can be useful and such, so I find it silly that guys who do it are given stick for it

I'm glad you agree. I had a friend from earlier in my secondary school years who managed to hook up with a bloke of seventeen years. It just didn't fit and I'm glad they broke up later...

*nods in agreement* [Again! ] I really dislike the stereotype that guys should only play football or cricket and girls should dance and do all the other household-y things. I work with loads of guys in my ballet classes all the time and I promise you, what they're doing is not a walk in the park.

Personally, I applaud any man who can go against the rules of society.

Thats the thing.Why cant men be both in societies eyes? I play rugby and do Tae Kwon Do and other other "manly" stuff, but I also bake biscuits/cookies/cakes, do laundry, sew buttons back on my shirts of any have come off and help with other household chores here and there.
Its just strange so it is.

No offense taken, Ëarwen. It really wasn't very smart of her, and my other friends and I tried to talk her out of it. We didn't want her to get hurt you see. Nothing happened though, that I didn't hear about later. We kept a good eye on her.

*hugs Lamenter* I'm so glad to hear of at least one guy who'll admit to doing things like that. I know you're not the only one, but it just seems that most guys won't come out and admit it.

I really dislike the stereotype that all women are good for is running the household and having children... we have lives besides that you know!

Exactly what I'm saying, yet there are still people out there who would deny us jobs and rights just because those two examples have been our way of life for thousands of years.

In the current times, the old stereotypes for the roles of men and women have pretty much been broken down. I personally have no problem with women doing things that were the domain of men (ie. The first female Beefeater that was on the news yesterday) And I think that it is unreasonable to expect women to do all the domestic work. I do some cooking, and my own ironing, plus whatever other things need doing.

On the 13/17 year old thing: It isn't the age difference that is the problem there. It is the position. If they were both ten years older, I wouldn't bat an eyelassh. However, because of how old they are, it is a little inappropriate (mostly because they are either side of the arbitrary line that is the age of consent). But also the level of maturity and what they are looking to get out of the relationship will be very different.

I think that's really cool. I hate how stereotypes make it so girls have to be all girly and pink and guys have to be all manly all the time and are made fun of if they like cooking or something.
I think guys should know how to cook and clean and do sewing and things that are needed to run a household - not necessarily as well as women, but enough so that if they need to do something for some reason they can.

And although women should be running the home and providing children, they don't need to feel confined to that. Different people have different callings, and I know mine is to run the household, but I'll (hopefully) still write and get out some. I don't really want to go to college or get a full-time job. Everyone's different.
I'm not all girly, either. Most of the time I'd much rather sit and talk with my guy friend(s) than some of my girl ones, because they get boring quite often, talking about make-up (yech) and hairdye and stuff. I'm extremely sporty and love pretty shiny metal sharp things.


Anyway. Can I join?
