The Ball isn't about dancing for a whole long week, no sir! Let's mix it up a little! What other events do you think we should do. Everyday we can have a new event and activity! And remember let's not forget to celebrate the Christmas holiday! :)

Any thoughts on what we'd like to do for semi-daily events for the duration of the Yule Ball... here are somethings from last year's Yule Ball and other suggestions we could do:

Timed Events:
- Masquerade (22nd, 27th)
- Snowball Fight (??)
- Snowman Building Contest (??)
- Guess Secret Santas (??)
- Caroling (??)

Give your yays, nays and suggestions before they become official!

Yea to the Masquerade and Secret Santa guessing for sure. :) I don't remember much about the snowball fight, caroling, and contests though... however, I'd very much like to have some official holiday contests.

What are your ideas about contests, Larael?? Actual contests held during the Yule Ball or contests like the Snowman Building contest where you just roleplay and have a good time??

White Elephant gift exchange!

Thats where everyone brings a gift but doesn't put anyone's name on it. Then we put the gifts in a pile, and we draw numbers. (#1 goes first, 2 second, ect) and we take turns chosing gifts(as long as it's not the one you brought).

How about that for an idea?

That sounds like a wonderful idea, but just so I'm not confused how does that work again?

Everyone brings a virtual gift and put them all in a pile (that'd be a big pile) and one by one, they pick out a gift?

Yup. And to do it on AU... how ever many people do the White Elephant gift exchange, you have present number like 1-50 or what ever and each person who gave a present knows what number was the present they gave so when a person pick it, they can say what it is.

In real life I did this with my family last year and we had a blast doing it!

I think a roleplaying snowball fight would be good... perhaps 2 or three teams (if we have enough people who are going to attend) and anyone who just wanders in, they have to be kind bribed to join a side... :P

As for carol singing... it could be something as simple as someone posts one line of a carol, the next person the next and so on... I can't really see how that would work otherwise.

I think a couple of actual contests would be great as well. In the contest section I mean.

About the Gift Exchange. Okay, so everyone who brings a gift. I have to make a list (note to myself what gifts they brought) and then present the list as numbers. The members get to pick which number gift and then I tell them what they got, or do I give the people who brought gifts their number so that if someone chose their gift, they could explain what they got?

Lol...ohohoh snowball BATTLE. Get into formation!

Either way, I don't think it matters. But, only the person who "brought" the gift should know what it is. So, when a person choses a gift, they don't know what it is till they open it.

And I love the snowball battle idea! I'm all for it!

Okay so, we have the 22nd and the 27th for the Masquerade.

What day(s) do you want to do the Christmas Tree decorating in the grand hall?

What day(s) do you want the snow ball fight / Snowman building contest on?

What day(s) do you want the Gift Exchange on?

What day(s) do you want the Secret Santa Guessing on?

What day do you want the Caroling to be on?

Why don't we get ideas for different sorts of contests that we can hold during the week?

Graphics contests always seem to be a staple, but I'm not sure if the duration of the ball would be enough time to make something good.

What about a Christmas carols contest? Instead of coming up with an original carol participants could LotR-ise an original carol. We'd probably have to start that sort of contest exactly when the ball begins so that we could have awards out on time.

^ Aye, I remember a contest like that last year... 'cos I got an award, lol. That means I'd need new material for this year.... I reckon a carol contest would be great, we don't always need graphic contests and everyone could have a go.... would be nice though if only people who were going to join in the fun joined.... ;) .. don't know if that would go down to well though.... :teehee:

D'ya think perhaps Kit you should ask Keyodie about the secret santa revealing date? I'm not sure if she doesn't have a day planned, I think I heard her say Christmas Day.

Contests are a bit tricky to handle. =/ Say we started a contest on the 21st and
21st, 22nd, 23rd - give them about 3 days to make their entries (speaking graphics)
24th, 25th - voting
26, 27th - awards?

I'll talk to keyodie, don't worry about that. It will probably be either the 25th or the 26th, I still want to know what days you guys want to have the other events so please, I need some input here.

Let's see...

What day(s) do you want to do the Christmas Tree decorating in the grand hall? -Maybe the first day.

What day(s) do you want the snow ball fight / Snowman building contest on? -In the past, there's been sort of an on-going snowball fight during the whole ball. Maybe we could have a snowman contest partway through the days.

What day(s) do you want the Gift Exchange on? -Maybe the 21st through... 24th?

What day(s) do you want the Secret Santa Guessing on? -How about Christmas and the day after? I guess that would be up to keyodie, though.

What day do you want the Caroling to be on? -Mm... partway through the days.
