Aww, Ivy, you're too kind....
So Ivy, tell us about this courtship business, I'm fascinated to know how you two met and how you properly court over such a long distance....

Hey Ivy really nice to see you here again
I agree with Sida that it would be interesting to hear more about courtship.

I suppose it does depend on what kind you have. Some beer is good, while others just taste awful. But it's a taste you do have to learn to like. My favorite. Budweiser! I'll drink any beer brewed by Anheuser-Busch. Personally, I think any other beer brewed by other company tastes awful, but then again, that's just my opinion. I'm sure there are other people that think otherwise.

Aww, Ivy is TOO kind! Ha ha ha ha! Always something "interesting" to read, eh? Ha ha ha ha ha!
Yup! The first alcohol I ever had was whiskey. WHAT an introduction. It's definately an intense drink that I NOW try and avoid. It is good for cooking, but I do like when rum is used in cooking. Especially rum cake. Ha ha ha ha!
And DO please enlighten us on this long-distance courtship! Sounds really romantically intriguing. Especially because he's "courting" you and I'm such a hopeless romantic that that appeals to me in a bizarre way.
But have fun on your Christmas vacation! I have ONE more final then I'm on winter break! HURRAY! No drinking to celebrate though.

Well, we met on a singles website ( www.sovereigngracesingles.com) for people with similar beliefs, and both of us knew up front what we were interested in. We chatted back and forth sending the longest PMs back and forth about beliefs and views and opinions on this and that, ideals, goals, etc, and then general chit-chat. That started in early March. Then by May we were IM-ing--whenever I was off work, we'd talk. By mid-June he was speaking more long-term, so (and this part'll seem weird) people we respected were made aware and brought in for accountability, my father and his pastor (mostly my father). At that point things became three-way: emails, IMs, and long, long phone calls which during my vaction in CA in July progressed to the point where the average was 2.5 hours and it wasn't uncommon we had 4 hour calls every night.
So we have continued, emails, IMs, phone calls (no, not so often are they 4 hours, but still averaging 2-2.5 hours with the not-so-uncommon longer one), and monthly visits.
We met in person over labor day weekend, he came down and stayed *at my folks' place* (that's something for nerves, right?), returned in October and spent 6 days here over Thanksgiving as well. So now's my turn to visit out there. I'll be staying with some folks from his church.

That is the cutest thing I've heard in a very long time! I'm so happy for you! Recently, I've heard a lot about internet relationships....One of my friends recently got involved in an internet dating relationship website and now she's seeing the guy on a regular basis, they seem to get along really well! And another married couple with two children I know/work with, met on an internet relationship website! It seems the internet can be used for everything! Ivy, do you find it odd telling people about you guys' met? When will you be visiting him? Oh! This is so cute!

*comes in*
Hey guys! Wow, it's been a real long time since I've been here the last time. But I've been offline for nearly a whole month. I'm really sorry, but RL is just so busy. I hope I'll have a bit more internet time now that the holidays are coming.
Happy belated birthday, JF!
How will you spend Christmas by the way? Are there any special Christmas traditions for you?

Ohh so many things to catch up with...
First of all, welcome to the club, Elenya! And happy belated birthday.
Happy belated birthday to JF too, I hope you had a great day. I hope you'll be a more frequent visitor in the club - and on A-U (well, I could say the same for myself...)
Apologies to MoBo for not getting back to you on PM.. I've only had short visits on A-U lately and I never made it to my inbox...
Rose it's wonderful to see you again, my (other) fellow European friend. I hope you are still liking uni. Do you find it hard? And how many courses do you take?
Ivy, dearest Ivy. Everything is forgiven when courting is your reason for not being around. At least if we could be so privileged to follow the romance from time to time when you want to share!
I would like to be more around myself, it's interesting to hear news from your lives but to be honest, I don't think it will be much better in the new year. My exam is on January 8th and on the 12th I'm going to Cuba for a 16-days vacation (yay!). When I'm back home I need to work as much as I can before I am leaving for Spain where I'll go on an exchange stay for spring semester. I'm afraid I won't have much time for A-U then.
But so far it's great to be here. It's good to see you all and I hope everybody is having some happy holidays.

@Eä: Hi, dear! It's great to see you again here as well.
Yeah, I'm still liking uni quite much. But to be honest, it's harder than I expected it to be. I mean in general the stuff we're told during the lectures is quite easy to understand, but we have to read really much additional stuff at home and the books are usually not that easy to read. But I'm really interested in it and I think that makes it a lot easier.
How many courses...Hmm, let me count...Well, I have two lectures (each one two hours) for each of the three mayor fields of German law, one law related course that teaches you something about the backgrounds (I've chosen History of Law), one work group/tutorium for each of the law subjects and finally my English law course. All together that makes about 23 hours lectures a week plus the time you spend at home for learning everything, plus 2 hours a day for going to uni/going home by train. So, my days are usually pretty busy. But I still like it.
Wow! That sounds like a real busy time for you. I wish you good luck for your exam. And you're going to Cuba? That's sounds really good as well as you exchange semester in Spain.
This summer/autumn I'll have to do an internship somewhere in the English speaking world for my English law course. I don't know where to go yet, but I'm already looking forward to it. I hope you'll meet many new and interesting people in Spain. And you should definitely have brilliant weather.

Oh wow, what a busy schedule... you must be doing magic to make it all fit into those poor 24 hours which makes up a day!! One of my friends are studying law and she's really busy, sadly enough for both of us because I rarely get to see her. She lives in another part of the country too. Well, I hope you can use some of the commuting time to study as well.
Thank you thank you, I've just realized that since my exam is on a Tuesday the 8th I'll have very little time to find additional reading and study it for my exam since the libraries will be closed over the weekend...
Oh well, anyway I'd really like to go on exchange in England but it's very popular because of.. yeah, the language, more people speak English than e.g. Spanish. But I'd like to go there sometime to either study perhaps on a three- month course or just to be there! But it's true we'll have reallywarm weather in Spain.. perhaps even too much for my liking... anything above 25C is killing me...

^Well, it is all pretty busy and I sometimes wish that a day had 48 hours, but it's still okay. The only thing that's really bad is that I usually go to uni in the morning and return home in the late afternoon or evening, as there are quite many breaks between the single lectures. I'd rather have the lectures put closer together and be home earlier then, but that's how it is.
Yeah, I've recognized that all the jokes about lawyers who hardly leave their offices are true somehow. I was in a book shop together with a friend and we found a satire about laywers which was really brilliant. When we were looking at the time we spend at uni already, we both knew instantly that all the prejudices are true. But I've also been speaking to friends who are studying some economy stuff or sociology and they're pretty busy as well. I guess people in the first semester just take everything still a bit too serious. But it's really a pity that you don't see your friends that often. Most of my friends are studying in different cities as well and they have completely different schedules, so meeting them is almost impossible and even talking to them via the phone is getting hard.
Well, I try to learn while I'm in the train as often as possible, but mostly I'm riding the train together with two other girls who study law and get on the train on the next station. And if there are three girls together it's always very hard not to talk, but to read silently in your books. So, we've finally decided to go through some cases together once a week and to try to find the solutions together, which is quite much fun.
Aww, that's bad. I hope it'll all work out fine nevertheless. Our uni and its libraries are closed till Jan. 6th, so for all the poor guys from higher semesters who have their final exams very soon it's quite bad as well.
I guess I'll be going to England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales for my internship. I'd love to go to New Zealand, Australia or the US, but the internship will just be for 3 or 4 weeks and therefore a stay in a country that far away is much too expensive. Spain would be wonderful as well, but unfortunately I won't be able to deal with English/ American law there.
Hmm, okay. I like warm weather, but too hot isn't good as well. I really agree with you that 25°C is totally enough. Especially if you have a room with no airconditioning and many mosquitos. But I think in Spain it also depneds on the region you choose. Do you already know where you'll stay? And do you already speak Spanish or will you be learning it there during your stay?
