Wow, I'm very excited for the possibility of a Will/Liz free PotC movie. Will and Liz are DEFINATELY the most expendable characters, except maybe for some of the misc. crew(not the Black Pearl crew).
My only problem is the lack of Davy Jones or Beckett, they really made number 2 and 3 work for me. And Tia/Calypso.
Now in the IGN blurb, it says something about the most dangerous pirate of all, who could that be?
Not really happy with the Jules Verne bit, hopefully they'll leave that out. Flyign machines seems more of an "Around the world in 80 Days thing" than PotC.

I'm with you, though I think Jones and Calypso got a good ending for their story. Can't wait for more Sparrow though.
Something about the most danger pirate of all, aye? Interesting....

Just food for thought.

Eh...that wasn't exactly reason to celebrate (unless you're like me and don't want a PotC 4 to happen for another few years). For those who don't speak Terry-ese (9 parts satire to 1 part straightforward, add a liberal sprinkling of obscurity), what he's basically saying is that he and Ted, of all people, would be the first to know of a P4 because, hey, it's kinda their story. That he and Terry have not been informed of any plans is a strong indication that none have yet been laid.
Rumors will always abound in a franchise as successful as PotC. As of Spring 2005, PotC 2 was called "Treasure of the Lost Abyss" and was a further adventure of Jack, Will, and Liz centered around the Abyss, the first pirate ship to ever sail Caribbean waters. Everyone was 100% certain of it, and it was 100% fake. As of February 2006, Barbossa's role in DMC was showing up at the end and killing Jack as revenge. 100% certain. 100% fake. As of late Spring 2006, Barbossa's role was that Jack encountered him in the Locker. 100%....you know the rest.
Point being, we just don't know. Will there be a PotC 4? If TnT come up with a story that they really feel does their characters justice, and they can get the Disney to agree, and they can get Bruckheimer, and they can get Gore, and they can get all of the needed actors back, then maybe. But absolutely nothing is set in stone right now.

I'd prefer if they stopped at four.

I don't think I could live knowing Jack Sparrow wouldn't be coming back to us with a new adventure in a 4th film. Those movies are just so FUN. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want a 4th ESPECIALLY since Will and Elizabeth probably wouldn't be in it. That's more Jack and I'm sure the Willabeth fans can see that their story is over and it ended fairly happily. How could anyone not enjoy another adventure with Jack?!

it would be cool to have a 4 but i think it would make potc get old for most ppl. if they could make it the same quality as the other three, it would be cool but i don't really expect it for another couple years. besides i can't imagine a potc film without will or elizabeth, or even without davy!! even though he. . .yeah. but actually i think it would kind of destroy the whole point of potc. i mean, the differences between cotbp - awe is huge! with the different storylines. (1st one being more or less realistic than the completely unbelievable 2nd and 3rd, which i am completey fine with, considering the 3rd is my favorite ) . A 4th one would probaby change the face of potc completely! but that's just my opinion. a 4th one would be weird without the usual known characters.

We were watching At World's End in class {a perfect waste of educational time, as much as I love PotC}, and I started thinking about the rivalry between Beckett and Sparrow, and I wouldn't mind a PREQUEL with the adventures of Jack and the East India Trading Company.

It definently wouldn't come out for a couple years. And though I disagree that the first one is more realistic, I think they could keep the same feeling. I just want more Barbossa and Jack. Let's pick up with the fountain of youth.
Kit, really?! What does AWE have to do with school? A prequel could be interesting too.

I don't know----our English teacher tells us that "The vernacular they use is the same words we're studying for Frankenstein." I'm just rolling my eyes, muttering, "Whatever." Overall, I'm just frustrated with the incompetent teachers I keep getting and cannot wait to go off to college. We're also watching this in the middle of exam week, and I don't understand why she doesn't take the time to help us review for exams (we definitely need it!) instead of making us watch AWE.

Oh my goodness, Kit! finally someone who understands!!! that is exactly how I feel too! I would LOVE a prequel that talks about Beckett, Jack and Barbossa! but as it is a fourth one, that, no matter what they try to say, WILL basically just be adding on to the trilogy, not a totally different movie (:eyeroll:) is almost totally out of the question for me! it just feels so... like their trying to erase their past or do something else they really don't need to do.... at least for DMC and AWE they had an AWESOME story to tell! but this one feels like... I dunno. It's just that sometimes all good things have to end. and I find it hard that any of the original fans will totally accept this movie... other than the Jack fans. *sigh* but as for the many, many other fans... to them it'll probably just seem sorta cheesy and like it's trying to outdo something it simply can't. I mean I have faith in writers and Mr. Rush and Depp and all (as long as they're very smart and keep to their history and all that) but still it just doesn't seem right. Also another thing is is that for right now it's gonna be.... sci-fi? now, to me, that just about ruins the whole thing. *sigh* and I think the Willabeth story adds a LOT! I mean, CotBP basically happened because of Will and Elizabeth... same with AWE. and DMC, well, that sorta too... although not as much. Jack makes up like... I dunno, not many of the good scenes, IMO. But this is a person talking who goes for more of the "littler" characters and the ones not quite so raved about (except Will ) and sees their potential too (so I love and focus on a lot of the characters who won't be back for P4).... so in P4 it's, like, Barbossa will be the one I'm rooting for (they really need Will and Elizabeth in it to tie up though... )... he's the funniest anyway if you're going by that. (even though, personally, the funniness of PotC was alright to me, but the action and adventure and drama has always been what I've loved about the films... ) but I shall stop there before I get too ranty and passionate...

What? Sometimes I think about just skipping all the scenes without Jack. Particulalrly in AWE. All that "how can I trust you?" nonsense with Will and Elizabeth was a bit too much.

I really can't see what good would become of the sequel. Or a fourth in the series, AWE wrapped that storyline up beautifully. The constant theme of the trilogy was the British Navy vs. Pirates, and that was all wrapped up in AWE where the Navy kind of lost.
Jumping into something with a completely different theme just wouldn't feel right for me. Even if it was the same characters. The big shebang with AWE was the peak and we saw all the falling action from that. I don't want another rising action.
A prequel would be okay, maybe it wouldn't trump AWE, but it'd be at a good level as CoBP/DMC.
In the first conversation/meeting between Beckett and Jack in AWE, and Beckett mentioned "But you know all about betrayal, don't you, Jack?" That just provided a HUGE OPENING for a prequel.
