I hate Feanor. I have nothing more I can say about him. I also have very little respect for his sons with the exception of Maglor who at least tried to get rid of the stupid silmaril

I like Feanor. He is interenting character who has a huge personality. He (or maybe just reading Silmarillion) made me think that elves CAN also be bad ones. I mean, in LotR all elf characters are almost perfect and good ones.

The only one of Feanors sons I cud respect would be Maehdros as he was th emost rational of them all; he tried to unify the eldar an don several ocassions restrained his wilder borthers, but the all of feanors sons were a load of planks coz of what they did in the name of the oath. Thats what I think, plz feel free to disagree if u like.

No, I hate Feanor with my heart soul and mind.... the guy was an idiot! I am gonna have to aggree with Alkin. Maglor came *that close* to repenting the oath and then in steps Maehdros and screws everything up...

I kind of like him, but I disagree with a lot of his actions. However, he did make the Silmarils, and I do have his name in mine, so I really am undecided. I would say I do, just a little.

Well, you have some of his name in yours. Feanaro, not Feanor.

^Feanaro is the Quenya version of Feanor. So actually he does have it all...just in a different language!

Aerlinn wrote: I like him, in a way. Like Laynie said, he showed elves can be bad. Elves are not angels, and Feanor clearly isn't. It shows a more "human" side to elves: I mean, They're very powerful and wise, and different, but not perfect. He certainly wasn't the nicest person around, but you can't say he's evil. I mean, he was very powerful and defiantly not human-like, but in a way he was VERY much like most humans. He's just so complicated, but that kinda makes him interesting. So, yeah, I like him, but I wouldn’t want to meet him Not such a nice guy overall. I agree in some moments I've asked myself is ne really an Elf?But he isn't evil, maybe just too impulsive

Since it's been so long, my opinion has evolved a little...
I like Feanor as a character, but not necessarily as a person. Does that make sense?
Basically I mean he's a really interesting character, one of the most well-developed in the book, but I don't agree with what he did and so I probably wouldn't get along with him if I met him.

I must say that I actually like Fëanor because I have pity on him. He used to be good, but was misled by Morgoth, and, therefore, is seen as a negative character. You probably don't agree with me, but I have mercy on him because he went through so much, not all of it being his fault, and was judged harshly by Mandos for it. As James 2:12 clearly states, "Mercy triumphs over judgement!"

Unfortunately my database of quotes isn't available at the moment however it is said somewhere that the corruption of Feanor was Melkor's worst evil! Strange I know but it says that Feanor, as greatest of the Children of Iluvatar, could have gone on to do marvels in the world and for the Valar. Thus Melkor corrupting one with so much potential, earned this deed number 1 postion as the worst.
I would have thought the 'making' of the Orcs or the slaying of the Two trees would be a better choice but there you go.
