TheThain wrote: ... About the two movies. (I know I've posted this before, so sorry ) It doens't seem like they'll be dividing The Hobbit up. They probably make up a "bridge" movie using stuff from the RotK appendixes. Possibly stuff like this: Quote: The White Council meets to discuss The Necromancer (aka Sauron) The White Council (including Saruman and Gandalf) attack The Necromancer’s stronghold at Dol Guldur. This is to prevent Sauron from searching the river for the Ring. Sauron abandons Dol Guldur and takes up residence in Mordor. Gollum leaves the mountain, searching for the “thief” Baggins. Sauron declared himself openly, starting to gather power to Mordor. Aragorn searches the wilds for Gollum. Aragorn’s engagement to Arwen. Frodo’s birth. Personally, though I'm not thrilled they're making up a movie now, I like it better then the idea of dividing The Hobbit up. PD, ok, good. You scared me for a minute there. I practically know the book off by heart. (and that's what you get from staying up to all hours trying to adapt the book into a movie screen-play. I've got a profound respect for the Lotr writers... )
Really? That's the rumor of what the second movie is gonna be? Hmmmm, actually I don't really mind the sounds of that. I can see the good and the bad, I guess, but over all it sounds interesting. It is kinda like they're just digging for more money, but to me it still makes a bit more sense than dividing The Hobbit up. *shrugs* no offence meant, that's just me.
Ok, well, sorry for that! I don't know the book by heart, but I have at least read it, yes. wow, you tried to do that? I'm in awe!
Did I hear someone say they live near or are going to the place where they filmed Hobbiton?

I didn't see this posted anywhere else (if I've missed it. I apologise)
But it seems the Director has sort of unofficially been decided/announced.
Unless rumours ect are wrong, Guillermo Del Toro has been given the nod.

yeah I've heard that, too.. but it's still a rumor as far as I know. At least I've heard nothing official yet.
But I'm not really sure if I like the idea of Del Toro directing the Hobbit..

Like I've said before...back when LotRs was being touted with Peter directing. The exact same concerns were raised.
Who the hell was this splattercore movie guy thinking he was directing OUR book? That weird guy that did Frighteners? Oh no..that's horrible.
My point is, it's silly to judge someone on past work. Unless it's like, Michael Bay or something lol
Del Toro is a very capable director and has a really great vision. Look at Pan's Labyrinth. Plus, he would have to have Peters backing and confidence. If Del Toro has been chosen, then he has PJ's blessing. That's enough for me.

Same here... as long as PJ is on board and the director has proven himself to us, which he has, I'm fine with it.

Well he's just producer... Thats not much in a movie - mostly handling money. So I hope that the actual directing part he helps in.

I think that as long as PJ wants it, he should get it.

But thats the thing. Ever since the thing with Miramax, he's been interested in the money aspect more....

He's got the final say in everything. The script is essentially in his head and he's been plotting it out since the end of LotRs. They cannot do anything without his approval. It's about way more than money, though of course that's part of it. ALL movie makers are in it to make money, it's a business.

xD The money point is true, but I was sort of talking about it differently. But if he's having that much input, awesome!

From what I have Del Toro is the man whose going to get it and he also seems to be the best bet.
I mean not only does he know PJ and Fran, he absolutely loves the Hobbit, and you need to really have as much passion for the book you are about to turn into a film as you can, in my opinion because not only are you a director but you're a fan as well, so you're going to want to do the best you can for all the otherr fans.
PJ has producer will have a say in practically everything. That's what producers do. I have no doubt in my mind that if he has an idea on how a scene can be improved, Del Toro as a friend will be more than happy to listen to him.
I'm not sure about the two films though. If they are aiming at a more kid-friendly film, they may not want one three hour movie, so maybe that's why they'll have two shorter films for the Hobbit. Otherwise, I can't understand why them mean to have another film for what happened after LOTR or before LOTR and after the Hobbit.

Well maybe you're right and I should just calm down a little.. But I dunno, I just can't say: oh well, PJ's gonna be the producer so everything's gonna be fine.
Also the two film idea seems a bit strange to me. I mean, I don't know yet the reason why they wanna make two films, so yeah, I'm a bit careful with getting too enthusiastic about it I guess.
