Really? It hasn't got too cold just yet. Actually, it's quite tolerable right now.

@ Darrell: Yes, you're certainly right. The humidity heats us up enough as it is...

Well anyone that knows me well, will know that I hate the warm weather, even if it's just a mild day. I hate the sun as well, which is probably why I'm so pale, as I always avoid sitting in. :P

But give me cold weather and I am happy. Maybe it's because my birthday is 5 days before Christmas, so I have 2 reasons to look forward to the early nights, the roaring fires and the snug atmosphere. But that's the only reason the warm weather is bearable, because I know what comes after.

It's been quite chilly here recently, although we have had a few warm days as well. When I say warm, sunny, but it's soon got cold again.

*ponders* I've lived down south my entire life, so I really don't know the real coldness of the north. I'd love to live up north though. I'm all for snow and cozy fires.

*waves to the Brits*
Weather talk.... I can definitely throw a comment to that conversation. I don't mind cold weather (as long as it's just bright and clear) and I don't mind warm weather (as long as it isn't awfully hot and humid!), but I don't cope too well with the cold rain.. and the foggy, mushy weather when it's somewhere in between and most of the day is just grey and dull. Then I'd prefer any of the more extreme types of weather anytime!! :-)

*ahem*
What's wrong with you good folk? Can it really be that a non-Brit is must post here to keep the club going??

Anyway, I was wondering about accent and dialects. I can't tell the difference - or to be more precise, I can't tell what the difference is between them. I thought you might want to share your knowledge on British dialects, like who speaks what. Perhaps compare with actors in different movies as examples. :-)

I was going to for weeks, but htought Id wait for someone else to do so, I may develop a reputation as a reviver of dying threads :P

Dialects and accents, well, Its kind of hard to explain over the internet. I may post up some examples of me doing various regional accents (good or bad tis your call :p)

Or maybe you can work up a reputation as a person who desperately wants to revive dying threads... but miserably fails in the attempt because he is always beaten by others! :-)

Well, I'd love your attempt at different dialects, but you can also describe the dialects by using actors, like the actor who plays Jane in BBC's Pride & Predujuce... Hugh Grant in... whatever Hugh Grant stars in and so on.
*shrugs* That's just an idea. :-)

@Ea- Well, I have revived this club a minimum of two times over the past few months, so I have already got the rep :P
Both ideas are good though, *shrugeths*

Seriously, who expects a club to continue when there isnt even anyone who posts save a few? Has everyone unsubscribed from this thread?!

Ypu got a point, lamenter... what would the club do without considerate people like yourself. :-)

Hola Gimli... I've got a question for you *points to previous page* I'll gladly re-post it for you, because I'm actually relying on you to help me... :-)

You want to know basically what accents are from where?

Umm.. yes.. but no, actually first of all I'd like to know what the different dialects sound like... to be able to tell them from each other. Like... I can more or less tell a Southern American dialect from a person from the West Coast... I'm just curious, what dialect does Johnny Depp use as Jack Sparrow, I can tell it's not the same as Kiera Knightly in the same movie. And Alan Rickman in Harry Potter and the infamous Hugh Grant in Bridget Jones' Diary.. and Notting Hill.. and pretty much any movie he's in!!

Hm... Ok. Well Johnny Depp uses a Cockey accent for Jack Sparrow. So that's the accent for Londerners who come from a certain area of the city. Not all Londerners sound like that.

Dunno if you have heard Michael Caine speak, but that is a true Cockney accent.

Well Hugh Grant is a tricky one. His accent is sort of posh-British really. It's not a dialect as such, as you can pretty much come from anywhere and sound like that. It's just... posh... :P.. I would say the same goes for Keira Knightly as well.

Alan Rickman is a tough one. He just sounds... normal to me. I know he comes from London... but it is definitely not a Cockney accent and neither is it posh. Hard one that.

Sean Astin as Sam, now he had a West Country accent, which is usually found in the South West of England, places like Cornwall, Devon etc.

Dominic Monaghan as Merry... hmm... I think he also had a West Country accent, although it wasn't as defined as Sean Astin's.

I'm trying to think if there were any distinctive accents in HP... I think they were mainly posh actually.. :teehee:

:duh:

He would have been a perfect example.

Dominic Monaghan is from Manchester, so that's give you an idea what people from that area sound like.
