((Now. :P))

~~~~~~~~~~~
Dun dun dun dun.
The slow melody of the old song, "Talk show host" by Radiohead, went through his head like an old, broken record.
Well, at least it is a good song, however old. He thought lazily as he leaned against an old stone wall of an abandoned building that used to serve the city of Chicago as a Pizza Shop before it got closed because of rats. Now, it was Ash's favorite hideout...or moreso, practice ground. It was hidden, run down, old, and on the very edge of the town. It was perfect for him to practice things he shouldn't be practicing.
Ash was different. Not the normal different, though. He looked like a half-decent kid; old, worn Levi's, a 30 Seconds to Mars black and red t-shirt, a black jacket, and dirty tennis shoes. His short, shaggy black hair helped cover his beautiful light blue eyes. Around his neck, he wore a necklace with two pedants around it. One was a simply cross to prove he wasn't some goth who didn't believe in God (for he did), and then a cresant moon. He never took either off.
Ash was 17. 17 and single. He went to school, skipping only on Fridays to practice his gift and occansionally go surfing if he drove a couple hours away, which he did on long weekends.He stayed away from drugs and alcohol, even though many thought he did them. He had a couple tattoos from when he was 16. One wrapped around his ankle of The One Ring inscription of his favorite trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. Another was found on his left forearm; it was another cross, one of a Celtic design. It was the first tattoo he got. Another was a rose wrapped in thorns on the back of his right calf. (sp?) He planned to get a few more before his senior year. So far, Ash seemed normal. Except, for one small detail.
Ash was a Shifter.
On a good day it would have been enjoyable to be sitting on a secluded park bench with the sun on her face. On a good day breeze would have made her happy and dreamy, even put a smile on her lips. And on a good day her mood would reflect the good feelings the day brought.
This is not a good day. Janet had given up on giving herself a pep talk to resurrect the day. She knew she should be use to the rumors by now, but they still seemed to get under her skin. It like those people just sit around all day thinking of what else they could say about me. Well that probably wasn't true. Janet was sure that people had other more important things to do besides stir up rumors. She gave a rather frustrated sigh making her fingers threw her hair.
It's not like she wasn't like she wasn't trying to be normal (though what is normal anyway?). To any stranger Janet looked like just another teenager. She had the dark wash blue jeans, a colorful tee-shirt, slightly waving hair, and dark brown eyes. How more normal could she get?! Ok, so there was the little thing about being able to move stuff with her mind that might stand out as different. But that's hardly common knowledge. Still somehow people were able to tell she wasn't quite "normal".
Rubbing his tired eyes and yawning, Mark van Hoff regretted staying up until two. He had only wanted to finish the next book from the Runelords series. Finishing it at the expence of being tired the next day and probably failing his test... no, wait, it's the geology test today isn't it... I'll ace that one. He smiled, when it came to anything in the earth, he was an expert.
He grabbed a quick bowl of cereal, the headed out into the back yard. Looking around to make sure none of the neighbors were snooping over the high fence, he kicked off his flip-flops, rolled up his jeans, and dug his feet into a patch of dew-moistened soil. Closing his eyes with pleasure, the 16-year-old sighed with relief as the earth covered his feet. Only his parents knew why he did this every morning. One cannot be long from an element you control without feeling some yearning for it.
Arianna leaned against the wall, the short, high waisted green sundress matched her eyes and showed off her smooth tan legs to perfection. A gust of wind tossed her fire colored hair and she looked up at the sky pretending not to notice a few guys stareing.
Corban stood just outside of school, his hands casually dug inside his pockets. He wasn't leaning against anything, nor sitting on something, he was simply standing, his backback on his back, his glasses resting on his face. He wore what anyone else would wear - slightly worn blue jeans, a t-shirt to his favorite college team, and worn sneakers.
But to assume that Corban was normal was a major assumption. Not all teens could read minds.
Corban's gift was, of course, kept secret. That is, from everyone but his small family - his mother, his father, and his older brother. But here, at school, no one knew. Here, he was the local geek - glasses that he couldn't see without, a math wiz, 'unstylish' hair that was lacking in any kind of hair styling product, and, of course, he almost never spoke. But, behind his glasses and simple haircut, he probably knew alot more than any of his class-mates thought he did.
With a small smile, Corban turned his face away. After all, he did know some of their deepest, darkest secrets.
It was so stuffy. Why did the clock have to tick so loud? Maybe it was just her, sitting in the back corner of the courtroom only paying a little bit of attention to the case that was going on, the case that would make the disission of how her life was going to be the next six months or so. A piece of paper sitting on her lap was covered in drawings, one was a woman in a long dress sitting on a cresent moon much like the one she wore around her neck under her blouse.
"The jury calls the defendent guilty of steeling cars and selling them to the black market. Sentence two years in prison," BANG, mumblings. Case closed. The girl in the corner sighed. Two years in a foster home, then.
That was almost to years ago. Two more days and he would be out of jail. She knew her father had been desprate for money, but not that desprate. And look where it got him. Trish, the girl who had been in the corner of the court room, sighed. What will her life be like in three days? For one she'll live in her house again, and everything would be covered in two years worth of dust and cobwebs. But she changed, and her father most likely changed as well.
Trish got off of her blue motorcycle, lifted the helmet off her head and attached it to the seat. He'd probably want to move to Iceland or something when he gets out. Trish shook her head, letting long orange-gold hair feel the slight breeze. She shoulder her shoulderbag and made her way through the parking lot to the high school. Worn tennis shoes hardly made a sound on the sidewalk. Trish wore jeans, and a black T-shirt over a white longsleeve shirt.
Trish stopped on the front stoop of the highschool. Being early, Trish just sat down on the steps, and pulled out a sketch book. A breeze blew across the front of the school, on Trish's command. That was one of the many things that made Trish one of the farthest things from normal at this highschool.
Idly she sketched a dragon flying in the sky looking down at a stallion who wasn't afraid while his herd ran away in fear of the great dragon. She liked the concept of a brave one. A hero.
I need a hero, Trish thought to herself with a sigh...
Gideon stood on the roof of the apartment complex that he lived in with his mother. He lend on in elbows agents a railing looking out over the city that he was forced into. A bark brown leather jacket hung loosely off is shoulders hiding the white and red t-shirt underneath. His black demon jeans were old, tattered hame-douns from his cousin that he never met. The sun light glinted of the one earring that he wore in his right ear.
Closing his bright blue eyes Gideon thought back to the wonderful life he lived in Florida. His house was near the woods where he could prates his special talent with out unwelcome eyes to noticing him.
As his thoughts carried on he felt a old sensation run through him. Gideon opened his eyes and looked down at his hands, or more correctly, through them. He shied but didn’t return him self visible agene. As he returned his gaze out across the city he remembered why he was there.
His memory of that day seven years ago was sharp. It had been his 9th birthday and he was running around the house waiting for his father to return so he could open his presents. Jill, his mother, was in the kitchen baking his special cake and preparing supper. The sun was low on the horizon and the sky was a deep red, his favorite color. The grinding of tiers on the gravel driveway cot is attention . Gideon ran to the door and through it open expecting to see his father walking up the driveway with a spring in his step and a smile on his face. Instead he ran right into a par of uniformed police officers. Jill harried to the door and asked way they were there. Gideon clung to Jill’s arm as the officers told them about his fathers fate. They said that he was in a car accident and did not survive. The day suddenly became dark and he felt alone. running out of the house and into the would he turned invisible and kept running until he couldn’t run anymore. A year later Jill found a suitable job in Chicago and they’ve been here ever scents.
((Great start, guys! :)))
Ash noticed the sun had come up a good hour ago and looked through the window of the building at a clock. 7:02 A.M. What day was it? Ash wondering and then remembered it was only Thursday. Drat. No skipping today.
It's not that Ash hated school. He enjoyed it, for the most part. It was jsut the...alternative things that he could be doing. He liked those things a lot better.
Ash could hear cars driving past on the road a few blocks down, reminding him of civilazation. He sighed. Only a few moments of sound, and already he missed the silence. He wished he could change into a bird and fly into the air and escape it.
I can grand that wish. He thought and then shook his head. No, not now. Maybe that night, after dinner, he would change, but he couldn't now. If he was caught, or seen....Ash shivered, and he wasn't cold. Sighing once again, Ash turned and started walking towards the school, back into civilazation, a place that hated him, and wished him dead. Well, their wishes won't be granted very soon.
Janet walked along the side walk back to school. Even though she wished she could skip, the thought of hearing about it from her parents if she did kept that as only a wish. As she walked, Janet pretended to kick a stone. Really she was moving it along with her mind.
When she got to school, she was in her own little world. Janet barely saw Corban in time to avoid running in to him. "Excuse me," she said brushing past him.
Corban, slightly surprised, jerked his head up. He emmediatley moved out of the way of the brown-haired girl that slid past him. His eyes subconsciously followed her. There was something... Different about her. Corban didn't typically evesdrop on everyone, but he could discern their general emotional patterns. This girl's mental patterns were... Different.
Once he snapped out of his thoughs, Corban blushed lightly. Had he been staring?
Arianna shrugged lightly as if she were giving up on whomever she had been waiting for and picked up her bag. As she straightened she flashed a smile at the boys who had been staring at her. That's right ... just a little closer, but you better be careful... playing with FIRE is dangerous... She thought to herself as she walked toward the door. She brushed past a kid with glasses and faded blue jeans, absently reaching up to clasp the cresent moon pendant that hung around her neck.
(Hey Karigan, nice banner and avatar ;) , and also, Gideon reminds me of a certain Final Fantasy character... is he based off of Cloud Strife by any chance? lol)
Trish just finnished the outline of her sketch which she chose to call "Brave One". She closed her sketch book and stuffed that and her pencil in her shoulder bag. With a sigh she stood and check her cell phone clock. Almost time for the first class to begin. She turned just in time to watch an almost collision between two students. Nothing big, that kind of thing happens all the time.
Trish brought another breeze across the front of the school, and took a whiff of the air and loved the feeling of the wind in her long hair before making her way into the stuffy hallways. Well, it was stuffy to her at least. There were no breezes, but other than the poor ventalation system, the air was too still for her.
"It's way too stuffy in this school for me. I swear I'm going to sufficate one of these days," she mumbled to herself. But one thing that always reassured her the feeling of the cool metal of her cresent moon pendant against the skin on her chest. Now without another thought she walk passed a girl who reached for something at her neck and a boy in glasses. Trish kept walking till she was into the building and making her way down the hall to her locker...
(note: if dialoge or thoughts are in a different color, it's in a different language. Blue is French)
