Gather 'round, gather 'round! I, in light of the fact that I shall be celebrating my 3rd year hear at AU, have decided to put something rather special together for all of you for my anniversary post. I shant tell you what it is now, as it must remain a surprise, however, I would like your help.

So, please, put your thinking caps on. I am in need of words and phrases that describe the entire LotR fandom. They can be in relation to the books, the movies, Tolkien, the fans, and basically anything else you can think of. They don't necessarily have to be good things about the fandom either. I want things that encompass the fandom as a whole, and that's got to include the bad times as well.

Get creative - I can't wait to hear what all of you have to say, and I can't wait to share this "surprise" with all of you on 24 May.

Epic... that is the first thing that came to my mind, not creative in the least part but I am very much going to come up with good ones soon enough when I actually sit down and think about the LotR fandom and what it has meant to me over the last 5+years <33333

There ya go. LotR can resonate within every person, no matter what age, sex, religion, language, culture whatever. It shows the human complex, our greatest faults and our greatest triumphs.

Hmm.. these are good because they encompass the fandom entirely, just as I asked, but I think I need some that branch off and go with specific parts of the fandom. It can be people, characters, current discussions, events, inside fandom jokes, etc.

Gah.. it's hard to get what I need across in words. Thanks, Darky and Pandora I'll definitely use what you two came up wth of course.

Lemme think... okay, I'm kind of looking for certain "quirks" that only the LotR fandom possesses. Figwit, for example, is something that only our fandom has and it's something the fans came up with. Some other examples might include, tig-tag [as coined by Dom and Billy], "Gandalf for President!" [commonly said by LotR fans when the book trilogy first appeared in the US], or Arwen haters [who have appeared in pockets throughout the fandom since the release of the movies].

I would have to add in 'They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard!'

Sensible on its own, you see, but to a LotR fan...

Legolas manages to fight hundreds of orcs, goblins, men, corsairs, and other such nasties, and still manages to have perfect hair! (Where does he keep his brush and mirror?)

That sort of thing?

Well I love the inside stories about the cast, like Dom's splinter, Viggo never bathing and loosing part of his tooth during Helm's Deep, The Gray Havens having to be shot almost three times, Sean B. refusing to ride in a helicopter, Viggo breaking his toes on screen... all those things.

Among fans we've had that long debate over whether Balrogs had wings, how annoyed everyone was when in the movie Faramir is tempted by the ring and when Frodo sent Sam away. Also, "Taters," "Frodo Lives!", and Legolas as Captain Obvious.

Ah yes, I remember the very secret diaries. Those were some of the first fan written things I've read concerning LotR.

I've written down all the suggestions so far.
