Pippin: "I had the loveliest dream last night. There was this large barrel, full of pipe-weed. And we smoked all of it. And then you were sick. I'd give anything for a whiff of Old Toby."
[A groan is heard.]
Merry: "Did you hear that? There it is again. Something's not right here. Not right at all."
[Pippin gives a growling burp.]
Merry: "You just said something… treeish."
Pippin: "No I didn't. I was just stretching."
[Pippin stretches and two more groans come from him.]
Merry: "You're taller."
Pippin: "Who?"
Merry: "You!"
Pippin: "Than what?"
Merry: "Than me!"
Pippin: "I've always been taller than you."
Merry: "Pippin, everyone knows I'm the tall one. You're the short one."
Pippin: "Please, Merry. You're what, three-foot-six? At the most? Whereas me, I'm pushing three-seven, three-eight."
Merry: "Three-foot-eight? You did something."

Pippin: "After all, you need someone of intelligence on this sort of a mission... quest.... thing!" Merry: "Well that rules you out." Elrond: "Nine companions. So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring!" Pippin: "Great! Where are we going?"

Strider: "Gentlemen! We do not stop till nightfall." Pippin: "What about breakfast?" Strider: "You've already had it." Pippin: "We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast?" *Strider walks over the hill* Merry: "Don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip." Pippin: "What about elevensies? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, don't he?" Merry: "I wouldn't count on it."

*Merry catches an apple that was thrown from over the hill. He gives it to Pippin, claps him on the shoulder and walks away. Another apple hits Pippin in the head. Pippin looks at the sky in surprise.*

Merry: "Pippin!"

Sam: What we need is a few good taters.
Gollum: What's taters, precious? What's taters, eh?
Sam: *Po-tay-toes!* Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew... Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish.
[Gollum makes a noise of disgust while sticking his tongue out]
Sam: Even you couldn't say no to that.
Gollum: Oh yes we could. Spoilin' nice fish. Give it to us raw and w-r-r-riggling; you keep nasty chips.
Sam: You're hopeless.

Sam: I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales.
Frodo: [turns around] What?
Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, 'Let's hear about Frodo and the Ring.' And they'll say 'Yes, that's one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn't he, Dad?' 'Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that's saying a lot.'
Frodo: [continue walking] You've left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam.
[stops and turns to Sam]
Frodo: Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam.
Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn't make fun; I was being serious.
Frodo: So was I.
