"Niiiiiiiiiice" she laughed appretiateively. "Who set the spinklers off? That wasn't us; we just set an alarm of in the staff room; divert the teachers attention and all that."
She started feeling along the wall for the door that would lead them into the girls dorms. "Kira will explain why we needed to." She called back over her shoulder.

"Oh yes," Kathryn replied. "And I'd love it even more if he turns out to be evil and ends up chasing us around a darkened passageway, or ends up consuming us so that he looks human again," she teased. She nearly bumped right into Don when he stopped suddenly. "What is it?" she asked.

Kathryn peered over into the blackness of the abyss and frowned slightly. "I guess so," she said. "Unless of course these walls hold another entrance," she said with a shrug as she glanced about them.

Don kneeled down, and looked closer at the ledge. He felt along the edge with his hand, and stopped half way.
"There's a ladder," he murmered. He stood back up and took another torch off the wall, and dropped it into the pit. Don watched it until it landed somewhere four stories bellow. Four stories? So it went underground? "I guess we go down."

Kathryn watched the torch fall until it disappeared from sight. "There does not seem to be any other place to go-unless we want to go back," she said matter-of-factly, knowing that the second choice was not really an option. "Whoever created this place had some rather twisted ideas," she muttered as she stared into the darkness beyond.

"I'll go first, so if you fall I can catch you," he said. He put the torch he had been carrying in the empty slot from the torch he dropped, and clombed onto the later. With a reassuring smile to Kathryn, he started climbing down, looking down to help find the footholds of the old metal ladder...

Kathryn smiled slightly as she watched Don climb down the old metal ladder. Well let's hope I don't fall early on, she thought as she watched Don for a few moments more. "How is it?" she asked finally, still a bit uncertain of how stable such an old ladder could be.

Kathryn gave him a faint smile meant to express her thanks. That's well and good for me, but it won't do either of us good if something were to happen to you, she thought. Well, guess its now or never. With that she drew in one more deep breath before she slowly turned to climb down the metal ladder. Grabbing the sides tightly she first took one tentative step downward and then another. Grasping the sides tightly, she paused for a bit as she looked back to find the next foothold.

Don carefully made his way down the ladder. It was still a long way down. It was a good thing he was afraid of heights...
"Hey Kathryn, I forgot to ask. Are you afraid of heights, or caustriphobic?" he called up to her. The silence was just too much for him at the moment...
