Since I'm feeling adventurous, venturing away from the graphics section more often lately, I figured I'd come here for help with my upcoming vacation.
Long story short, I'm going to South Dakota for a week this month with very, very little reading material, all of which I've been through at least four times already. Granted, I'll be driving a good bit of the way, but when we rotate drivers I'd like something to do besides pout and stare out the windows at the cornfields we always seem to go through for hours on end. I plan to make a run to the book store before we leave, and suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Genre-wise, I love fantasy and science fiction, but I like reading anything with a good plot and interesting characters.
Thanks in advance. ^_^

If you like epic fantasy, Wheel of Time should keep you occupied - but it's on a level of LotR, extremely intricate. I really like it, though. First book is Eye of the World, and they're by Robert Jordan.

By Margaret Weis. Amazing books. I love them. To no end. There are seven of them:
Dragon Wing
Elven Star
Fire Sea
Serpent Mage
Hand of Chaos
Into the Labyrinth
Seventh Gate
I'm also reading The Rose of the Prophet trilogy by her, which is pretty good so far.
EDIT: I agree with Melda as well. Wheel of Time is awesome, though be warned - book 12 isn't out yet.

I suggest anything by Dean Koontz... he is a great mystery writer.. I just read something that was similiar to the mist and it was quite interesting, lots of references to T.S. Eliot... it's a great read

I've actually skimmed the Wheel of Time series but it was while I was on an Anne McCaffrey hype, so I should probably try to check them out again. I'll have to look up Margaret Weis and Dean Koontz too, I've heard really good things about them.
And I plan on getting some Donita K Paul, too, Bala.
Thanks guys!

Besides LotR and Narnia? I don't really read fantasy besides those two, and HP if that counts. I don't read sci-fi either.
Beach reads (aka romance) are my preference for filling time.

Beach reads? Haha. I call them braincandy. I really get into things like Tolkien and Roderick Anscombe and Anne McCaffrey, but I go for Nora Roberts when I just want to kill off time between projects. =P

I've read it three times now, Tur, but you reminded me that I want to again. I'll get on that after I'm done re-reading Wicked and K is for Killer this weekend, definitely.
