I FINALLY saw it last night.

I have very mixed feelings about it though. I loved it, but at the same time I felt it could have been so much more. It was just too much... action... for my taste. Not that action is bad - I love action - but there were just too much chasing/crashing/burning/shooting etc. Taking away all the things specifically Batman (like the characters, the gear, the Batmobile etc) it felt like it could have been just about any other over-hyped action film out there. It was perhaps a little too... impersonal (if that makes any sense). Batman Begins felt more epic in that way. All the never-ending extensive action sequences also (sadly) made the film feel longer than it actually was. I also missed the Batcave. Yes the mansion was destroyed in the last film, but the cave would still be there wouldn't it? I'm don't remember much from the comics I used to read as a kid so I'm not sure if it could have been in this film (for accuracy reasons) but I missed it regardless. That big hollow uber-light room did nothing for me. Again, it felt too impersonal. Maggie Gyllenhaal didn't do much for me either sadly (neither did Katie Holmes). I didn't feel for, nor could I relate to any of the Rachels.

Now for the things I LOVED:
  • The bank-robbery opening sequence. Just brilliant!
  • HEATH LEDGER AS THE JOKER! AHHHHH!!! 'Nuff said!
  • Every single scene with the Joker. Especially the nurse outfit LOL. Again, 'nuff said!
  • TWO-FACE! ZOMGZ! I hadn't read any spoilers whatsoever so I had NO clue he was going to be in the film. I absolutely LOVED him. What a delicious villain. And his more 'realistic' look felt like a breath of fresh air compared to Tommy Lee Jones. And I LOVED the fact that they used his burned tuxedo jacket to represent the other side of him (instead of just using two different kinds of fabrics and colors).
  • The Batpod! Loved it when Batman came crashing out of the Tumbler on it. The audience cheered, haha.

I have to say it though. Christian Bale doing the dark voice as Batman just makes me laugh every single time. You can tell how much effort he has to put into it (it's like he has trouble catching his breath). It looks and sounds rather silly. Granted, Batman needs a darker and more distinctive voice than Bruce Wayne but it sounds retarded nonetheless.

LOL I kept muttering about that during the entire film... it was funny :D

-_- His voice is awesome. It really, really is. I never thought that it sounded silly. I just thought it sounded cool. I wasn't paying enough attention for it in The Dark Knight, but in Batman Begins, there's at least one instance where he's using his normal voice as Batman, which I thought was interesting/strange.

This movie wasn't, IMHO, impersonal, it just didn't focus on the person that most people expected. The story of the movie is about Harvey Dent, not Batman. Batman has minor character development, the Joker has no development, but Harvey definitely does. So it is personal, but it's personal as pertaining to Harvey Dent.

I liked it, at least. :P

I didn't mean impersonal as in not enough about Batman himself. I meant that the movie itself was impersonal as in that it felt like it could have been just about any action movie and not just specifically of the Batman series - apart from Batman himself, the Joker, Two-Face and the Batmobile/Batpod.

I don't care about character development and such. I'm not that picky. I'm usually easily entertained and don't have high expectations when walking into a theater so I don't know why I found the movie, apart from all the Joker and Two-Face scenes (which were awesome beyond words), pretty dull and yeah like I said, impersonal.

I might have to see it again to see if I feel any different.

And I still think his voice sounds stupid. The only time I find it acceptable is when he's shouting.

^Yeah, it sounds fantastic when he was yelling at Flass in Begins, but I think it still sounds cool when he's not shouting. Actually, I don't think I would have liked Batman as much if he didn't have that voice.

After he gives Rachel the antidote and is talking to her in the Batcave, PoI. ^_^

Eru, I think that that's one of the things that's so great about the movie. Without all of Batman's awesome equipment, the Joker, and Harvey, it's really just another crime drama. I don't know if it was supposed to be or not, but I think that that's a subtle way of showing who Batman is.

It all stems from that one quote at the start of Batman Begins--"But if you make yourself more than just a man; if you devote yourself to an ideal, and if they can't stop you, you become something else entirely...Legend, Mr. Wayne."

Bruce Wayne is a man. The key to his success as Batman is that in the eyes of his enemies, Batman needs to be more than a mere human. That's what Bruce does--instead of being Batman, like Peter Parker is Spiderman, he makes Batman. Batman is an enduring symbol, an incorruptible ray of hope in Gotham, which transcends any single person. Someone can assume the mantle, the way Bruce does, but the story of Bruce is that he is trying to keep Batman as a symbol, an unconquerable enemy of crime. Again, I quote: "As a man I'm flesh and blood. I can be ignored--I can be destroyed; but as a symbol, as a symbol I can be incorruptible--I can be everlasting."

That's the key to Batman. He's a symbol. He's a legend. TDK was an action movie--on the surface. Beneath, though, there are a whole lot of plot concepts that string back to Batman Begins and stuff. The entire movie is a reflection on Bruce Wayne and Batman. Rachel's death and Bruce's subsequent mourning shows us that Bruce really does have to put a whole lot of effort into maintaining the imperturbable symbol that is Batman. Batman cannot be injured. Batman cannot be stopped.

<_< I have no idea whether that made any sense at all to anyone, but yeah.

so what does that mean by the end of Dark? If he accepts the blame for Dent's murders, how will he remain incorruptible?

Well, it means that for the general public, he is no longer an incorruptible person, yeah. He's sort of passing the mantle on, in that they now view Dent as THE real, uncontested hero of Gotham, even though he's dead. But I don't think that anyone doubts that he will still go after criminals--if you recall, the people that Harvey killed were all corrupt cops, mob bosses, etc.

:swoon: Oh. My. Gosh. I just, literally, got back from seeing it... Wow. It was just as amazing as I anticipated. But, my mom's going to kick me off the compy any moment now... so I'll write my thoughts out later. I just needed to say that I thought it was AWESOME.

And I feel so, so sad about Heath Ledger now. :'(

It does make sense! You put it so perfectly!

Maybe that's why we can relate to Batman more than some of the other superheros. He IS human. He's not perfect, and he has to sacrifice in order to maintain the peace.

Also... random note: has anyone seen it on imax??

Yay! I have a reason to post here again. :D

BEG4G (...that's an interesting abbreviation :P), that is why I like Batman so much. His crime-fighting comes at great personal cost. Much more than Spider-man, IMHO. Batman makes a lot more sacrifices. I mean, he's so alone. He's set against the criminals of Gotham, the cops are set against him, and some citizens are for him, others are against him. He's a lonely warrior holding back the darkness. He's awesome. ^_^

Okay... I know everyone's said all that needs to be said about this movie... but, I still need to write something just for my own gratification. :P

First of all, this is the best super hero movie I have ever seen. Hands down. :notworthy: (*cough* Now, I've only seen the Spider-Man and Superman movies... ;)) There's a lot to make you think in that movie. And it was beautifully filmed. Absolutely stunning...

Batman/Bruce Wayne - Christian Bale is AMAZING. Ummm... I do wish there was a little more of Bruce Wayne... :erm: There was hardly anything, but still... He was wonderful.

The Joker - Again, amazing. Heath Ledger... gah! :'( I feel so sad now... I mean, I was before, but I hadn't seen him in any movies then. The Joker was a brilliant character. Granted, the way people talked about him I thought he was going to be different. I mean, he was evil, pure evil and psychotic... but, he would make you laugh. His pencil trick... :yuck: Still... when he said "it disappeared" afterward, I laughed. I loved the scenes with him in the jail, and dressed up as a nurse... And pretty much every scene he was in. :D And his laugh was awesome. :P

Rachael - I'm happy with the switch in cast. Maggie watshername did a fine job, imo. I was so shocked when she died... and kept thinking she was going to come back... But... yeah... it makes sense why that happened.

Harvey/Two Face - Erm... he was fine. It was slightly distracting with him there... and, I obviously would have liked more screen time for Bruce Wayne or the Joker instead of him... still, he did create a few interesting scenes. The last one was so intense. I loved that.

Gorden - What the heck? Can someone explain to me what happened with him? How on earth did he fake dying like that? That just confused me. But, otherwise, he was great. :D

My favorite parts?
Anything with the Joker. Anything with Batman. Especially parts when the two were together.
I loved the beginning robbery scene. Brilliance. Pure genius.
The whole thing about the two boats blowing up was pretty awesome too.
The part where Bruce Wayne drove his lamborghini in front of the police vehicle. I just found that very funny...
"Why so serious?" And his different stories about his scares. *shudders*

Ahhh, a pretty much loved everything.

And the ending. It's sad. Really, how unappreciated Batman is is simply sad. And Gorden's last words. Sp predictable... and yet perfect.

"... He's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Becuase he's not a hero. He's a silent gaurdian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight."
