^Good point. :-) I know the question wasn't directed at me but actually I found Betelgeuse a little annoying... other than that very cute and highly original movie. :P

By the way, I loved Alice's red dress - has anyone by chance stumbled upon it on the worldwideweb where it would be up for purchase? :P

That dress is SO Alice!! I think it's very cool to dress up... I'd love to go as the Chesire Cat! Did anybody else dress up for the showing?
I fell in love with Alice's red dress, so perhaps I should get someone to sew it for me... :-)

^ Hey, that was my idea! :teehee:

@ Freya... Ooh, I love that! The apron, the stockings... all of it perfect! You look like you just walked out of the old Disney movie!

I finally saw it! I suppose I have to confess myself slightly disappointed, too. I still loved it, but I had this feeling like the best parts were being left out. The plot moved so fast, you couldn't really get to know all of the characters. I think it just needed some depth.

I liked the character of Alice, though. The traditional Alice has always annoyed me, being nothing but a walking question-mark and having nothing better to say than "Oh dear! How strange! How impolite!" This Alice was much better. Her costumes were all great, too! I loved how they kind of changed with her different sizes without really actually changing.
The Red Queen and the Mad Hatter were both great, of course, and I loved the Cheshire cat! (Although I didn't buy the notion that he could suddenly transform himself into other people.) The white rabbit, the March Hare (spoon!), and the dormouse (when she wasn't removing eyeballs) were all adorable. In fact, I loved pretty much all the characters!

I cringed during the dance, too. It completely broke the spell for me. The movie was trying so hard to be epic up to then, so why a ridiculous, cartoonish dance at the end? I felt it jarred with the whole rest of the film.

Oh, and by the way, did anyone realize Celeborn was playing her father? :teehee:

WHAT?? Celeborn was her daddy?? I watched it twice and didn't realise... are you saying I need to watch it a third time? because I'm not sure watching it again does something good for my overall impression! ;-)

I agree with your points, Taur. What do you mean the costumes changed without changing? I thought it was odd that her dress still fit her when she grew big - both times! (And where did her glove thingies go when she grew the first time? :-))
And no very true, I loved and adored the Chessie but the plot twist with him transforming into the Hatter was an easy trick the script writers ought to have solved in a more elegant way. :P
Also I was surprised the dormouse was a girl, I always thought of her as a him when I read the books.

Celeborn! *rubs eyes* Really... I did not notice... I should go watch it again. I knew he looked familiar somehow...

BTW: That is not my real hair. :P

I actually liked that part as well... I think it was sort of needed after all of the dark "drama" centering around the battle. Maybe I need to see it again, but I honestly don't remember it being as bad as you all make it out to be. *le shrug*

SPOILER(S)?

Not even sure if these would be considered spoilers, but...

I absolutely loved it when The White Queen was making that potion for Alice with the toes and whatnot... Anne Hathaway was utterly perfect for that role. But I never expected her and the Red Queen to be sisters (because I'd never read the books or seen the original cartoon/movie thing) so that came as something of a shock to me. :P

I don't think it matters if you have seen any other versions or read the book. No die-hard fan should expect a true telling of the story. Not that I'm complaining, because in this case I can understand why TB didn't follow the original story closely.

And I'm glad I am not the only one who didn't like the dumb dance at the end. Even my brother said it was cringe worthy and he's seen all of TB's weird and wonderful films.

Gandalf bouncing around on a pogo stick at Aragorn's coronation would have had a similar reaction from me.

And I have to say.... Marton Csokas was sooooooo handsome as her father.

^Ha ha, I probably would have still laughed at that though... just the mental images are making me crack up.

But part of me just sums it up to the fact that he is the "Mad" Hatter and really anything is possible, yet I can still understand where you're coming from. Personally though I thought it was funny. :P

Late as usual but I have just seen this tonight. It was on Sky Box Office and I was bored (not to mention looking for some cheering up after that dismal match).

I really quite liked it. It reminded me of the book The Looking Glass Wars to be honest but nothing wrong with that.

Things I liked:

Alan Rickman as the Blue Catapillar. So in character. To me he's always had this grace yet snobbiness about him and Rickman captured it perfectly.

Stephen Fry as the Chesire Cat. I loved Stephen Fry for ages and again he had the character purrrrrrfect (See what I did there? Yeah I'll shut up now).

Barbara Windsor as the Doormouse. Bless her heart, old Babs. At times, when she was shouting, I could have sworn she was about to yell "GET OUTTA MAH PUB!" in her cheeky, lovable cockney tones. Though she is another of my old favorites from Eastenders and the Carry Ons.

But I mostly loved the visual imagery that TB brought us.

I really really love the soundtrack to this movie. ^^ Its awe-striking.

I also really loved the cast of characters, (but I really really hated Tweedle-Dee and Dum... :/ they were disturbing and nauseating to look at.

The score is fantastic. I'd say after Edward Scissorhands, this is Elfman's best!
