I almost never call her anything besides plain "Arwen" but I guess I think of her as "Arwen Undomiel" more often because whenever I say "Arwen Evenstar" I think of the other LotR fan site with Arwen in the name  Also, it seems like an Elf should have a pure Elvish name, instead of an English translation for part of the name.

Elrond pronounces "Undomiel" in RotK, making it sound something like:

Oon-doh-mee-ehl

Thanks, Arwen! But I don't know which syllable is stressed. Does anyone know? I have the RotK DVD, but I often watch it with the volume turned down to 5 or 6 because my family is still sleeping during those hours. :bye2:

Before I found this site I called her Arwen Evenstar, but now I call her Arwen Undomiel because of the site :) I didn't really hear it 'Arwen Undomiel' that often before either. But I pretty much just call her 'Arwen' when I refer to her.

Tolkien put the accent marks to show where to put the stress, so I think Undómiel would be (using Arwen's pronunciation guide) Oon-DOH-mee-ehl

I believe it either means 'Noble Maiden' or something along those lines...

No problem Elberethsq, glad I could be of any help!

Yes, Arwen means Noble Maiden! That's why the inscription on Hadafang reads Aen estar Hadhafang i chathol hen, thand arod dan i thang an i arwen Referring to Idril Celebrindal as a noble lady, daughter of King Turgon of Gondolin.

I've to say - really nice question, very interesting!
I call Arwen Undomiel because she's an elf and Undomiel is the elven word for Evenstar. I think you all can see I prefer Undomiel - come on my screen name is Lady Undomiel.

I perfer the elven names. They sound beautiful, and I am big beleiver in that things always loose just a tiny bit in translation after a while.

Granted to have to use translations initially when dealing with any new launguage!
