Thanks! I don't fully understand what you mean by overlaying the text though, do you have any tips or tuts on it? I do believe we use the same program. You use PSP 7, right? Cause that's what I use.

Yep, that's what I use. I probably didn't explain it very well, but when you place your text on your graphic, on the text layer if you change it from "normal" to say "soft" or "overlay", it will make the text transparent and will pick up the colors of the actual graphic, like this:

Whereas the text on my banner in my sig, is just normal text. :-)

You're welcome. :-)

I have a few PSP tuts on my site, but probably not anything that will be of use to you at the moment. If you need any more help, then let me know - we PSP7 users have to stick together. ;)

Yep, that we do! I do have one more question for you though. I see alot of people who make graphics put really small unreadable text under the actual text. Like this:

Image

Got the avvie from your website. How do you do that? some sort of brush or texture?

That is a brush. :-) I can't remember where abouts I got that actual brush from, but if you look at the credits page of my site, under "brushes", hopefully one of those will have text brushes.

I'll be making some myself over the next few weeks, I'll let you know when I do.

Alright, awesome! I'm happy an amazing graphics maker like you also uses PSP 7, for awhile I thought I was the only one who used it.

Haha, thank you. Well both me and Arwen the Webmaster use PSP7 (who says you need to newest version?) and you've seen the awesome graphics she can make so...... ;) ... I'm more than happy with PSP7. Sometimes it's hard to find good tutorials for PSP7, but it's mainly all about experimenting anyway. :-)

Brushes are images, textures etc that you can apply to a graphic to give it a little something extra. You can use them in a variety of ways, for example:

Image

I used a lot of brushes on this. The ink splashes, the flowers acting as the border, the small flowers, stars, even the texture over the main image, they are all brushes. Some were left as normal, others I set to overlay to make them transparent.

Well I don't know what programme you use, but there should be somewhere on your programme to use the piantbrush tool. And somewhere you should be able to change the shape of the tool to cutom shapes which you can install. PSP and PS brushes will only work within the respective programmes, but if when you download a brush set, it comes complete with an imagepack you can install them manually by cutting out each individual brush from the pack, and installing it into your programme.

I don't know if any tutorials from here will help you. :-)

Nice. :D You'll soon get the hang of which way of using the text works best with the graphic. The texture works really well on that one. :-)

I have another question for you, JF, if you don't mind. I was wondering how you do those beautiful borders of yours on your banners. I love them. I am glad you like the banner, BTW.

@ DamsonRhee - Ah, right. Well if you ever have the opportunity to get GIMP or PSP or something, now you know. :-)

That's pretty simple actually. If you use the "draw" tool and set it to "single line" (I tend to use the width as 1) then place the cursor at one end of your graphic and take it straight across to the other side (make sure it's straight and doesn't have any breaks). Place this line at the top of your image. Then convert your line layer, duplicate it, then go image>>flip. This will give you a top and bottom line. Now duplicate this layer, but this time rotate the line by 90 (image>>rotate), then place it on one side. Duplicate this layer and then go image>>mirror. So now you'll have a line all the way around your image. Finally, merge all the four line layers and the you can choose to do what you want with it. I find using "overlay" or "soft" works best. The best colours to use are black and white.

I know it sounds complicated, but when you'e done it once, you'll won't even think about it next time. :-)

Here is my pathetic attempt at the bordering:

I'll keep practicing at it. I like how the overall banner turned out. :-D
